The mission of Academics for All is to honor Sheridan High School seniors who are outstanding scholars as well as leaders in school and the community. We do this by:
l writing a Summit Award newspaper article for each selected senior;
l posting the same article on Facebook;
l displaying photos of each Summit Award winner at the high school; and
l providing cash awards to students
In addition, we recognize outstanding educators at Sheridan High School as nominated by the Summit Award winners.
During the last 25 years, with the strong support of our community, 563 students have received the Summit Award, and $156,650 has been awarded in prizes. Over 90% of the money we raise goes directly toward recognizing and rewarding outstanding students and educators. We have an official 501(c)(3) designation and are a tax-exempt organization.
As we look back on another successful school year, the members of our committee would like to thank the following generous donors who supported the 2022-2023 Summit Award programs.

Is shrimp on the menu tonight? Maybe it should be. Coming in at just around seven calories per medium-size shrimp, this crustacean is low in calories and high in lean protein and is one of only a few dishes that provides the beneficial antioxidants selenium and astaxanthin, according to The American Shrimp Company.
The majority of North American shrimp is harvested from the Gulf of Mexico, ensuring fresh catches for the U.S. and Canada. Around 244 million pounds of shrimp are produced each year.
An abundance of shrimp means the opportunities for delicious meals are endless. For something with a lot of flavor and crowd appeal, try this recipe for a “Shrimp Quesadilla” courtesy of Eastern Fish Company. Plump shrimp are nestled between tortillas and seasoned with familiar Latin flavors, ideal for a fast meal any time.
Shrimp Quesadilla
Serves 6
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 pound uncooked medium shri jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced (optional)
1 li teaspoon vegetable oil, or as needed
6 large flour tortillas
3 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend
1. Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir onion and red bell pepper in the hot oil, stirring frequently, until onion is translucent, and peppers are soft, around 6 to 8 minutes.
2. Stir salt, cumin and chili powder into onion and bell peppers.
3. Stir shrimp into mix and cook until shrimp are opaque and no longer pink in the center, 3 to 5 minutes.
4. Remove skillet from heat; stir jalapeño pepper and lime juice into shrimp mixture.
5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and brush with about 1 teaspoon vegetable oil.
6. Place a tortilla in the hot oil. Spoon about 1⁄6 shrimp filling and 1⁄2 cup Mexican cheese blend on one side of tortilla. Fold tortilla in half.
7. Cook until bottom of tortilla is lightly browned, about 5 minutes; flip and cook other side until lightly browned. Repeat with remaining tortillas and filling.

The United States has dozens of federally recognized national parks, as well as many other historic sites, scenic trails, national seashores, and national recreation areas. Unique geological features, diverse ecosystems, amazing natural beauty, and refuges for wild animals are located across the United States. Yellowstone National Park was the first national park. A bill designated it as such when signed into law in 1872 by President Ulysses S. Grant, followed by Mackinac National Park in 1875, which was

Did
The first All-Star game in Major League Baseball was played on July 6, 1933. The game was an effort to make professional baseball more popular, and it remains a beloved event on the MLB calendar today. According to History.com, attendance at professional baseball games fell 40 percent between 1930 and 1933. That decline likely had little to do with the game of baseball and much to do with the Great Depression, which ultimately proved to be the longest depression of the twentieth
century. The Great Depression began in 1929 and lasted a decade, and the fallout from the depression was felt in every corner and industry, including professional baseball. Many once-ardent baseball fans, who helped to establish record attendance in the 1920s, could no longer afford tickets during the Great Depression. Arch Ward, sports editor of the Chicago Tribune, was tasked with devising a sporting event that could be held in conjunction with the 1933 World’s Fair. Ward ultimately proposed a game featuring baseball’s biggest stars, and
fans were even encouraged to vote for who would play in the game. Several eventual Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmy Foxx, were voted into the game, which was played at Comiskey Park in Chicago. Nearly 48,000 fans attended the game, which ended with a 4-2 American League victory. Baseball owners and executives took note, and the game has been played nearly every year since 1933, with only war and a global pandemic preventing the league from hosting its annual Midsummer Classic.
