amazing example of God’s faithfulness. Earlier this year, she came back to visit Sheridan House and joyfully shared how impactful her time here had been. She shared that we had taught her consistency and perseverance, even if those hadn’t been obvious at the time! She sheepishly grinned as she laughed about how much patience the staff had shown her! Today Kate has been married to a combat veteran for eight years, and is a mom of two children, six and three. She used to be a 911 dispatcher, but chose to leave that job to be a stay-at-home mom. She and her family live in Tallahassee where they faithfully attend a Calvary Chapel in the area. Cassie makes a pen in the shop
One of our former Sheridan House girls came to visit us this year. Check out how God’s been working in her life! Kate came from a church-going family, but her mother was in a lesbian relationship. This devastated and confused Kate. She began to struggle at school as she spent all her time seeking attention from the boys around her. She kept acting out negatively, which brought her to Sheridan House. During her stay in the Residential Girls Program between 2001-2003, Kate set a record: she accrued the most work hours of any other girl in program! She was one of the most consistently difficult girls we had at Sheridan House. Nonetheless, the staff mentored her, loved her, and walked alongside her during the hardships she was facing. In the end, Kate did not graduate from the program. Sometimes the children who go through the Residential Programs do not immediately internalize the lessons and truths they so desperately need. Throughout her visit, Kate couldn’t stop praising God for all that He had done for her here at Sheridan House! She plans to finish her degree, and excitedly shared that maybe one day she could return to mentor the young women in our future homes for girls. God is so good and truly finishes the work He has begun in His people! We are so grateful for His blessings during these 50 Years of Miracles!
