summer camping in north carolina The Sheridan House Residential Program has a very unique element that takes place in July. This is both a time for fun and a great time for team building with the boys. We affectionately call this “Man-Up Summer” which lasts for five weeks. Throughout the year, the boys in the residential program return to their homes when school is not in session. However, due to the length of the summer break, we found that it was necessary to make an exception to this rule. During July the residential staff joins forces with Broward County School teachers to provide the boys with a “school-like” experience. Their favorite time of the day is the “Man Class”. The difference is that academic classes are replaced with activity-based classes which include basketball, racquet ball, weight lifting classes and wood shop. The classes are designed to help the boys develop life skills such as changing the oil in a car, rotating tires, as well as how to properly repair a flat tire. The boys are still held accountable for their behavior as well as the effort they put forth.

The five-week experience is capped off by taking the boys on an exciting and high impact camping trip to North Carolina. Without exception, many boys who have gone on this week-long trip will return to Sheridan House years later and ask the same question: “Do you still have the Summer Program and do you still go camping?”
