Family dinners are a favorite in the residential homes
Fifty years ago, Dr. Bill Billingsley had a dream to help the community in Davie, FL. He procured six acres of land west of State Road 441 and attempted to plant a church. Because it was too far west, attendance was scattered. To Dr. Billingsley’s disappointment, the church failed, but God had a much different plan! In 1968, Dr. Billingsley decided to use that little church building for a residential ministry. Originally called Sheridan House for Boys, Dr. Billingsley created a program for teenage boys who had behavior problems and needed to be out of their homes. It’s amazing to realize that those original boys today are over sixty years old! Were it not for God’s provision and Dr. Billingsley’s faithfulness to follow God’s direction, there’s no telling what kinds of disastrous situations many of those boys would be experiencing today. However with Christ guiding them, the trajectories for these boys’ lives wholly transformed.

One former resident named Adam, a college professor today, shared how his time here impacted his life:
“While I was at Sheridan House, I learned that God had a great plan for my life and I was given the discipline to pursue that plan. I also got to see what a Godly marriage looked like.” For the first five years, Sheridan House was ninety percent funded by a federal grant. Interestingly enough, while we received that government support there wasn’t much of any growth in the ministry. However in 1974, the Board of Directors decided to stop applying for federal funding. Because the government provides large grants, this was a giant step of faith, but if God wanted Sheridan House to do His work, He was more than able to support it. That’s the year our true growth began as God continued blessing us with Fifty Years of Miracles.
