Boys Residential Program

Kevin was full of anger. Dad wasn’t in the picture, and at times, mom openly showed frustration about ever having kids. Kevin joined us as a tiny twelve year old with full grown attitude and rage. For a year and a half we worked with him, teaching, guiding, and encouraging all the way. One day, Kevin was suspended from school again, so he was working outside. His behavior specialist remembers getting a knock on the door only to find the property manager carrying Kevin, who had blood running down his leg. He’d been assigned a chore outside, but had decided that jumping from one folding table to the next was a better use of his time! He’d fallen and cut his leg, so the property manager brought him home saying, “You can have him back now.” Kevin still had so much to learn. Though he was small at the start, he shot up with his

growth spurt; this physical change perfectly symbolized his transformation in maturity as well. He learned to control his temper, work through things that bothered him, and think before he acted. He became a team captain (a really good one, too!). His relationship with mom improved as he realized that if he behaved, she wouldn’t be upset with him so often. At first, mom had been set to send her younger son to Sheridan House too, but because she and Kevin learned so much, their home life flourished. Kevin graduated and his little brother did not need to enroll. The cycle had been broken and a family had been saved! Kevin now works in North Florida. Over the years, he has come back several times to say thank you.

He recently shared this wonderful news: “As for me and my mom, we have the best relationship we have ever had. I talk to her almost every day and couldn’t ask for things to be better with us.” Praise the Lord!
