We were struggling to find a reliable vehicle to use for collecting our daily food donations. We had been using the Sheridan House pick-up truck, but it had some mechanical problems: it constantly broke down and was impossible to use in rainy weather. We didn’t know what to do, but God had a plan. We received a call last month from the amazing people (our great friends) at Best Roofing; they asked if they could donate a small box truck to Sheridan House! Just like that, God answered our prayer! We now have a quality vehicle to use for donations so we can continue to bless the children and families we serve! We Help Families Get Back Together. The Family In Our Culture Is Being Torn Apart Family is God’s plan for our culture and our future...and it’s under attack from all directions. For thousands of years the Family was God’s way of preparing the next generation to be competent godly adults. When children grew up on a farm or in a small family business, they worked for the family. Their parents didn’t work for them. For the past few generations we have lost our “reason” for family. We have begun to raise individuals who are untrained to commit and make the sacrifices necessary to fulfill the family responsibility. God created the family leadership paradigm when he gave the marriage formula, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24 ESV). A commitment to the other person’s happiness. Such a commitment, that over time, the husband and wife begin functioning as one unbreakable team.
The family is still being ripped apart today!
God created this marriage relationship so the children of that marriage would be able to observe and learn about commitment to something other than self. Giving “Me” up for a greater good. God’s greater good for us. God’s plan is under attack. The divorce rates in our culture are up. Couples living together and choosing not to get
married are at an all-time high. This is understandable, since research also indicates that a very high percentage of these couples grew up in single parent households. They never saw commitment. This assault on the family is making a generation question what is really important. It is also making the next generation wonder if “family” … God’s plan for family …can even be done.
THIS IS WHY SHERIDAN HOUSE EXISTS We exist to supply Answers for Today’s Family. Are lives being changed? Absolutely! This past year literally thousands were helped by Sheridan House. Many received Christ, the ultimate answer for today’s family. This is obviously a critical time in our culture! A time when couples need help and hope. Many of you have helped offer this help and hope through Sheridan House.
THANK YOU! This year, let’s tackle the hard questions the world is throwing at us. The work happening at Sheridan House is essential as we fulfill God’s call to love Him and to love others. Because of God’s Word, wisdom, and provision, Sheridan House offers the answers and support the world desperately needs.
