A Note From Bob -
Shane Gets It! In fact, he gets it so well that he understands the privilege and responsibility he has to give back. He received the guidance he needed while living at Sheridan House and has turned his life around so much that he is giving back to the boys who are currently here. One of the key components the boys receive while they are at Sheridan House is leadership training. First, they learn to stop following others and to stop following their impulses. They are trained to lead themselves. It is incredibly important that every child learns that God has a plan for them, but that they must choose to be strong enough to lead themselves in His direction. The next step in our training program is to go from leading yourself to leading others. Once you take charge of your own life, you can take on the assignment of learning to lead others. Each room of three boys has a team captain. The team captain has to learn how to motivate other boys to accomplish the tasks we assign to the team. Shane has taken this training to the next level. This summer he and two other boys have decided to return to Sheridan House to volunteer and reach into the lives of these young boys. Shane is a leader learning to serve Christ. We are very proud of what God is doing in his life! God is doing a great work in the lives of these children. Thank you for playing a part. It works!
When Shane arrived at Sheridan House in October of 2010 he barely spoke his words above a whisper. Shane’s home life was turbulent, his academics were suffering and he was withdrawn from almost everything. He hid behind his silence as a means of escape because that was comfortable for him. Shane was placed in one of our residential homes filled with boys all striving to be heard. With a slow to speak and a slow to act quality about him, making connections with other boys in a home was going to take some time.
