Welcome to Year 1!
Meet Miss Cooper Class Teacher in Year 1

Hello! My name is Miss Bethany Cooper and I’m so excited to be your teacher in Year 1. It’s been lovely meeting many of you already, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you as we start our learning journey together.
I trained to be a teacher at Oxford Brookes University and loved living in the beautiful city of Oxford – it’s still one of my favourite places in the world. I’m now happily living in Basingstoke, close to my wonderful family. I’ve been a teacher for 11 years, and this will be my 7th year here at Sherfield School, a place I feel very proud to be a part of.
In our class, we’ll work hard, play lots, and enjoy discovering new things together. There will be plenty of chances to explore, ask questions, and learn across lots of exciting subjects. Most importantly, our classroom will be a happy and safe space built on respect, courage, and kindness, where everyone is valued and ready to shine.
Outside of school, I love spending time in nature, especially going for long walks or visiting the beach. I enjoy relaxing with my family and friends, and I always look forward to live music or a good theatre show. I also love getting lost in a great book! Reading is one of my favourite things to do!
I can’t wait for all the fun and learning we’ll share this year! Together, we ’ re going to make this a brilliant year full of growth, laughter, and learning.
Miss Cooper
I hope this booklet will help you to get to know Year 1. If you have any questions, you can email me on b.cooper@sherfieldschool.co.uk

Meet Mrs Maycock Teacher in Year 1 and Year 2

My name is Mrs Heather Maycock and I am so excited to be teaching in Year 1 and 2 again in September!
This is my second year teaching at Sherfield School but I have been teaching for 14 years, in schools in and around Basingstoke. I’ve loved becoming part of the Sherfield School community this year, it is a very special place to be!
I completed my undergraduate degree in English Language and Communication Studies at Cardiff University before I did a PGCE at Winchester University and qualified as a teacher in 2011.
I love teaching and how every day is different! In my last 3 schools I worked as both English Lead and Curriculum Lead; teaching phonics, reading and writing is my favourite!
When I’m not at school, I’m kept busy at home with my 3 beautiful, busy boys who are aged 5, 7 and 8. My husband is a guitar teacher and musician so our house is never quiet! I enjoy music, cooking and am never without a book to read or listen to. We love to explore and adventure whenever we get the chance, both locally and further afield.
I feel so lucky to be working across both Year 1 and 2 and getting to know and teach so many wonderful children! Next year we will have so much fun exploring new topics, embarking on creative adventures and watching the children grow and thrive together.
I look forward to seeing you all in September!
Mrs Heather Maycock
