ENRICHMENT
2023/2024
INTRODUCTION We place a high value on enrichment activities throughout the school because we want to equip you with the skills that you will need in the future. The Ad Vitam Paramus Diploma will broaden and deepen the curriculum by giving you the opportunity to try new things and give something back; learning a new, practical skill, supporting the local community, gaining further qualifications or even running a business. The programme is designed to help you develop greater problem solving skills, creativity, critical thinking, people management and much more. There will be something for everyone and time for you to track your progress. You will be able to choose from a wide range of opportunities in liaison with your Form Tutor who will offer guidance and support as you advance. At the heart of the ethos of enrichment at Sherfield is the school’s motto – Ad Vitam Paramus; Preparing for Life, which is why the programme is called the ‘Ad Vitam Paramus Diploma’ abbreviated to the AVP Diploma. The initials, AVP will link the Diploma with the opportunities on offer through the following categories: A – Accreditation – a programme of study to receive a recognised award. V – Volunteering – give something back to the community. P – Practical – learn a new and useful skill. Each year you will progress through the programme and work towards the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Diploma. You will be required to complete a minimum of six activities for the Bronze Award, a minimum of seven activities for the Silver Award and a minimum of eight activities for your Gold Award. Students in Year 13 will need to complete a minimum of five further activities for the Platinum Award. Years 3 and 4 will be able to take part on ‘lighter’, stage-appropriate versions of these options. As part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, Year 9 will be able to take part in a selection of the Enrichment Activities. The log will be your evidence file in-which you will record your successes and outcomes to evidence your initiatives and engagement and reflect on ways in which you have developed. This, in turn will become a useful electronic log for higher education destinations and future employers. Please take time to investigate the activities on offer and consider what you would like to do this year. We hope you enjoy the programme and trust that you will use it as an exciting opportunity to try something new. Good luck
