BRIDGING MALTA AND UAE THROUGH DIPLOMACY

50 YEARS OF MALTA-UAE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

H.E MARIA CAMILLERI CALLEJA

Ambassador of Malta to the UAE and Permanent Representative to IRENA

As Ambassador of Malta to the UAE and Permanent Representative to IRENA, Maria Camilleri Calleja has been instrumental in strengthening MaltaUAE relations. She stands as a symbol of the enduring relationship between Malta and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and has been instrumental in fostering bilateral ties that span over five decades. She shares some insights with the GTM team in preparation for the upcoming Malta National Day.

According to H.E Maria, the diplomatic relationship between Malta and the UAE was officially established on November 20, 1973, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The friendship was further solidified in 1978 when a 28-million Dirhams loan was approved from the UAE to Malta for port expansion. Over the years, the relationship has grown to include various sectors such as health, technology, research, and more.

The frequency of official visits between the two nations has increased significantly in recent years. Notably, the Hon. Dr. Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, visited the UAE twice within a year, signing multiple cooperation agreements. The President of Malta also visited the UAE in 2023, discussing various themes including the war in Ukraine and renewable energy investments.

H.E Maria also reiterates that the economic ties between Malta and the UAE are robust, with real GDP

growth reaching 6.9% in 2022 in Malta. The trade volumes have also increased substantially, and Maltese companies are keen on exploring various opportunities in the UAE market.

The daily direct connection between Malta and the UAE through Emirates Airlines further enhances the potential for commercial and investment activities.

MALTA AND THE UAE AT UNSC

Both Malta and the UAE are nonpermanent members of the UN Security Council.

Malta's ambition to serve on the UN Security Council stems from its desire to make a significant contribution to the preservation of international peace and security. While acknowledging the

challenges ahead, Malta pledges to spare no effort to contribute positively to the strengthening of cooperation and multilateralism in favour of an international order based on the rule of law. As a Mediterranean country, Malta will also ensure that security challenges in the immediate neighbourhood are given priority.

According to H.E Maria, Malta has identified four priority thematic areas: children and armed conflict, climate and oceans, women, peace and security, and literacy. These align well with the UAE's priorities, offering an opportunity for both nations to work closely together for peace.

Malta was the first country to officially place the issue of climate change on the

| 9 | Global Trend Monitor

political agenda of the United Nations General Assembly. Furthermore, as a pioneer in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Malta is determined to raise awareness about countries and peoples who are facing rising levels of sea, especially small island developing States.

During its Presidency of the UN Security Council, in line with the outlined priorities

established and the credibility built over the years, Malta organized an open ministerial debate in the UN Security Council on the implications of the rising level of sea for international peace and security.

Malta sincerely hopes that through this event, it has highlighted one of the disastrous repercussions of climate change and provides the countries most

affected with a platform to highlight the challenges associated with the rise of the sea level.

Malta also hosted a landmark event on children in armed conflict. This briefing focused on the prevention of grave violations against children in armed conflict. Malta welcomes the coordinated approach between the Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict and the Office of the Special Representative on Violence against Children.

CULTURAL COOPERATION

The cultural similarities between the two countries date back to medieval times when Malta was under Arab rule. Recent exhibitions like the Maymouna Stone Exhibition and the Cippi of Malta at Louvre Abu Dhabi have further strengthened the cultural relationship.

The Maimunah Stone is one of the most important Islamic artefacts from the Arab period in Malta and dates back to 1174 AD. Its surface is beautifully carved in Kufic script citing a memorial prayer about the passing of a young Muslim woman named Maimunah, together with Qur'anic verses on the subject of death.

The Maimunah Stone is representative of an era when Malta and a good part of the Western Mediterranean were

COVER STORY | 10 | Global Trend Monitor

part of the Berber Emirate known as Al Moaheddin (the people who believe in one God). However, nowadays the Stone puts on a different kind of attire - as the centre piece of a relationship between two museums, two peoples and two countries.

The Embassy is pleased to have had the opportunity to work with two professional bodies - Heritage Malta and the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, and the exhibition of the Maimunah Stone will stand forever as a reminder of the strong bonds of intercultural and interfaith understanding that exist between the two countries.

In Addition, tying to the concept of sharing history and knowledge with the world, the Embassy of Malta supported by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, together with Heritage Malta, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Musee de Louvre in Paris, embarked on a year-long journey between 2022 and 2023 with the objectives of reuniting two artefacts, discovered in Malta, but residing now within the collections of two different museums.

The two ancient Maltese pillars known as the Cippi of Melqart have been reunited for an exhibition in Abu Dhabi after being apart for 241 years. The Cippi are currently on display at the Louvre in Abu Dhabi, where cultural

talks and presentations are explaining their historical and archaeological significance.

The future of Malta-UAE relations looks promising, with both countries committed to enhancing their bilateral ties. The focus is on continuous dialogue, networking, and achieving prosperity on both bilateral and international fronts.

H. E. Maria Camilleri Calleja plays a pivotal role in this evolving relationship. Her efforts in strengthening the political, economic, and cultural ties between Malta and the UAE are commendable. As she often says, "This is by no means the end of the road; it is a build-up on previous work with the scope of reaching higher ground."

SEVEN FEMALE-FOUNDED STARTUPS LAND VENTURE DEALS WITH STALLIONGATES CAPITAL

Aggregated valuation of this portfolio has exceeded USD 500 million

MANAGEMENT
| 12 | Global Trend Monitor

With their recent focus on women-led startups and businesses, Stalliongates Capital partnered with 7 women Founders at pre-seed and seed stage earlier this year in the UAE and USA. The investment firm with its marketing arm Brandbeat Global, handheld these companies from ideation to scale, exceeding the aggregated valuation beyond USD 500 million for these recently acquired businesses.

We trained founders, partnered with them through capital injection, developed brands and executed Go-To-Market strategy to help them scale globally. Today all 7 startups are revenue positive due to our focus on profitability and exponential growth”, said Amna Razzaq, Managing Partner & COO at Brandbeat Global.

“The investment portfolio currently boasts a robust representation of 34% women-led enterprises and targeting 50% by 2025. The founders understand the gap in the startup eco-system where practical entrepreneurial education has been the missing piece across incubators and accelerators. Our portfolio company Brandbeat Global launched a workshop during 2022 to shortlist dynamic founders and impart practical education delivered by serial entrepreneurs, business leaders and C-suite executives.”

Global venture funding in Q2 2023 fell 18% quarter over quarter to $65 billion, Crunchbase data shows. That’s down 49% compared to the second quarter of 2022, when startup investors spent $127 billion. The first half of 2023 is down by similar proportions.

In H1 2023, global funding reached $144 billion, marking a 51% decline from the $293 billion invested in H1 2022 and a 10% decline from the second half of 2022. Despite, the slowdown, Stalliongates Capital has continued to grow its portfolio with a focus on businesses that offer superior ROI to its investors which makes this firm one of the top 30% VCs who have successfully returned profits to their investors.

The recent equity acquisitions of women-led businesses by Stalliongates Capital include Harnet Developments, Go-Insuretech, Veha Holdings, Zadasi, Brainstorm AI, IBIDIA and Quick Skills. It’s a diversified portfolio representing real estate development, insure-tech, ed-tech, generative AI, social community apps, health-tech and beauty industry. The only common denominator is women founders.

“We bring a unique value proposition for startup founders and business owners

by addressing two most important needs; investment, and marketing. It’s a three-step process. We fix the business ideation and modeling, achieve market validation through creative monetization architecture and scale aggressively through our creative brand marketing strategy. Getting the marketing formula right is as important as getting the core business idea right”, highlighted Shafaat Hashmi, Chairman Stalliongates Capital and CEO Brandbeat Global.

Shafaat and Amna, leveraging their dynamic synergy, have not only raised investments and managed portfolios across various sectors and asset classes, but have also provided comprehensive business consulting, investment advisories, and transformative brand marketing to a global clientele spanning over 14 years.

With a resolute vision, their firms have served over 300 clients with offices in 12 countries during the last 14 years. Stalliongates Capital and Brandbeat Global are strategically positioning themselves globally to expand their asset portfolio across education, healthcare, real estate, online gaming, e-commerce businesses, clean energy, and the evergrowing creators' economy.

“Our trajectory envisions a robust portfolio exceeding 100 high-performing startups which are leveraged by technology having a distinct competitive edge and offers a demand driven growth multiple to scale globally” remarked Mr. Hashmi. He further adds, “Dubai has been an ideal destination for our headquarters over the last decade providing us global access to opportunities and international talent which has contributed to our growth.”

“The future is generative AI and e-commerce. Fast-mover advantage matters more than the first-mover advantage. Our lifestyle and businesses will be completely revolutionized by 2030 and now is the time to adopt by staying ahead of the curve”, remarked Amna.

Stalliongates Capital is an investment firm operating from three countries managing a portfolio of multiple asset classes with expertise in investment advisory, asset management, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, fund raising and pre-IPO strategy. Brandbeat Global is a subsidiary of Stalliongates Capital with 14 global offices offering business consulting, brand marketing, UI/UX design, tech stack development, advertising and media, operating as a full-service agency with cutting edge business acumen.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT IN LUXURY ORGANIZATIONS

HAKAN OZEL

General Manager – Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai

| 14 | Global Trend Monitor
MANAGEMENT

“Customer Engagement and Staying

Close to Customers” is one of the most important fundamentals of business that should be considered at the top of the strategic plans of the luxury enterprises. When this receives enough attention with full commitment and passion, it becomes a very valuable tactical action of a business strategy.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT MODEL

Every luxury organization needs a strong customer engagement model. Once this model is developed and implemented throughout the organization in a disciplined manner, it helps to serve the customers at a delightful level. It helps organizations know their customers better and deeper.

By engaging, organizations learn the needs, likes, dislikes and preferences of the customers, and take instant actions to either fulfill their needs or solve their problems while they are still in or close to the organizations’ premises. This creates and retains loyalty, which is one of the most important business basics and needs of luxury organizations.

PRODUCT AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

Customer engagement helps to develop the products and services. If you want to identify the most experienced person in your organization, don’t look so far way; that is the person who uses and gains a tremendous number of experiences with your products and services.

That person is always your customer! Through engagement and listening to them closely, they become a natural member of your R&D team and share invaluable recommendations with you to improve your offers further. They help you to learn a particular angle where you would be better at something than anybody else in your actual and potential competition.

Once you know your customers, you also create segmentation to specifically create or tailor-make your products and services for each segment, as you move your offers away from being a commodity product but strengthen the positioning as a luxury. So, in this

way, customer engagement becomes an awesome gift and model for product and service development.

ANTICIPATION

Staying close to customers helps to know them better. This helps to anticipate what they would need or what they would not even think that they would need. This retains and develops business, increases the number of return guests and its ratio, which becomes the base business of the luxury organizations.

When engagement is leveraged, it helps the organizations to anticipate guest needs and fulfill them before they are demanded so that the customers are surprised, delighted, return and furthermore spread the positive word about the organizations.

EFFECTS OF DISENGAGEMENT

Disengagement causes dissatisfaction. Any product or service of the luxury enterprises provided to customers may not meet with the high expectations against what they pay. Due to lack of customer engagement, this may not be communicated with the organizations’ members. If that is the case, customers either object or complain post their experience.

If customer engagement is not strong enough, customers leave the premises with the problems and their experiences and memories, which prevents them from returning to patronage or spreading positive words about the

products and services of the enterprise. This is certainly not desirable.

If organizations stay away from the customers, they fail to learn their challenges due to lack of engagement, and subsequently fail to fix or improve instantly. If they learn, they have a takeaway out of the experience; and they ensure there won’t be any potential dissatisfaction around that particular product or service again in the future.

LOYALTY THROUGH ENGAGEMENT

When there is a strong engagement, customers will not look for an alternative to organizations. They will continue to be loyal. However, when they do not find someone to talk to about their experiences at the present time or in the future because engagement is not the tactical model of the business plan of the enterprises, they will certainly look for someone in another organization to engage with and talk to. This is partly how the business shifts from one organization to another.

CONCLUSION

Excellent and the most successful companies listen to their customers in a meaningful manner, as other companies only talk about it. They engage and stay close to them. They are obsessed and committed to customers through excellent products and services because they learn, know, anticipate and develop. Customer engagement will continue to remain as one of the most significant tactical actions of the enterprises’ business plans.

8 TOP TIPS FROM A MARINE BIOLOGIST TO KEEP IN MIND FOR YOUR NEXT BEACH-TRAVEL ADVENTURE

Nestled among the pristine turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean lies the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. The resort offers the perfect tropical getaway for those seeking an adventurous and luxurious escape and invites guests to embark on a truly extraordinary experience with the ‘Adopt A Coral’ program which gives guests the opportunity to get a hands-on experience in a coral propagation project with the resorts on-site marine biologists from Reefscapers.

Katelyn Hegarty-Kelly, one of the biologists at the Sheraton, has studied marine biology for 4 years and has graduated from the esteemed Atlantic Technological University in Galway, Ireland. She joined the team at the Sheraton working on the unique coral propagation project in 2023, working alongside resident marine biologist Kate Sheridan. Katelyn is helping restore coral reefs by building coral frames and placing them along the house reef of

the resort. Katelyn’s daily tasks usually consist of building and maintaining coral frames, monitoring, and relocating coral frames and attending guest excursions, and presenting marine talks to the guests of the resort every week. Katelyn has shared the following tips on how to help and promote the conservation of our beautiful oceans.

1. EMBRACE SINGLE-USE ALTERNATIVES

Embracing single-use alternatives is an essential step in reducing plastic usage and its detrimental impact on the environment. While it may initially seem challenging, making the conscious choice to seek out single-use alternatives can have a significant effect. For instance, over 500 billion single-use coffee cups are discarded worldwide each year. By switching to a reusable coffee cup, you can personally contribute to reducing this staggering waste. Small changes in our daily habits can add up to create a substantial positive environmental

impact, showing our dedication to preserving the oceans and marine life for future generations.

2. PARTICIPATING IN LOCAL BEACH CLEAN UPS

Get involved in a local beach clean such as on International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16th. Alternatively, you can show your support by contributing online. Many organizations share their cleanup events online, allowing anyone to raise awareness or contribute through donations. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reports that a staggering 14 million tons of plastic enter the ocean annually. Often, we adopt an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality, but it's crucial that we change this perspective. The ocean is greatly affected by the massive amount of plastic it receives, impacting the marine life that call it home. By participating in a simple beach clean, everyone can make a meaningful contribution toward addressing this issue.

Katelyn Hegarty Kelly (Marine Biologist at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa) shares her tips on how people can help and promote ocean conservation.

3. AVOID OCEAN HARMING PRODUCTS

When purchasing jewelry or healthcare products, it's essential to be mindful of their impact on our reefs and oceans. Take a moment to check the labels and ensure they are reef-safe or oceanfriendly. Some products contain harmful ingredients that can adversely affect our environment, so reading those labels can significantly help in making ecoconscious choices.

4. CONSERVE WATER AT HOME

Be mindful of the running tap while brushing your teeth. Did you know that by simply turning off the tap when not in use, you can save up to 4 gallons of water with each brushing session? It's a small but impactful way to reduce your water usage and contribute to water conservation efforts.

5. REDUCE TRAVEL POLLUTION WHEN POSSIBLE

Opting for alternative transportation methods such as walking, cycling, or carpooling can have a significant impact on reducing fuel usage. By making this simple yet powerful choice, you actively

contribute to lowering CO2 emissions, which not only benefits the environment but also enhances public health and addresses the challenges of climate change. Your small actions can lead to a big positive change for our planet and future generations.

6. EDUCATION

Engaging in research about various organizations or topics that interest you can truly make a substantial difference. By doing so, you open doors to possibilities like spreading awareness, educating others, participating in initiatives, or supporting fundraisers. This increased awareness about the challenges our oceans and marine life face leads to more discussions and decisive actions for a better future. Remember, your curiosity and involvement can ignite positive change and pave the way for a healthier planet.

7. DONATIONS

Supporting conservation organizations through donations is an impactful way to contribute to research and initiatives aimed at preserving our marine ecosystems. By making a contribution to your chosen conservation

organization, you can directly contribute to their valuable work in understanding, protecting, and advocating for the welfare of marine life and their habitats.

8. AWARENESS

In the spirit of staying informed and connected with the ongoing efforts to protect and restore the precious Maldivian coral reefs, we highly recommend following the official social media accounts of Reefscapers (@ reefscapersmaldives) and Sheraton Maldives (@sheratonmaldives). Through these platforms, you can stay up to date with the latest developments in coral restoration work and the significant strides being made to safeguard these natural wonders.

9. ADOPT A CORAL AT SHERATON MALDIVES

Guests can visit the Maldives and stay at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, to participate in the Adopt A Coral program. Guests can take part in the coral-fragment plantation activity to promote reef habitats and generate new coral, alongside the talented marine biologist.

GETTING REAL ABOUT AI IN THE ENTERPRISE

“Risk of extinction.”

“A threat to humanity.”

“This stuff is very, very dangerous.” You’d think these headlines are talking about the movie Oppenheimer. But no, it seems AI is the new menace.

I admit, I’m biased, which is a tricky thing to say in the world of AI. But as CMO of a tech company that’s using and offering AI technology, I’m pretty confident in saying that the world isn’t ending—at least not because of AI.

I’m in a unique position, both championing new generative AI capabilities at NetApp and telling the story of how we help our customers speed the adoption of AI.

In other words, a lot of cool AI tools that have hit the market can benefit

companies—but remember how we got here. AI didn’t just show up overnight.

At NetApp, for example, we’ve been working for years on how to best integrate the behind-the-scenes plumbing needed to run AI. For decades, you’ve been told to “simplify” your technology. That sounds good from a marketing perspective, but in reality, oversimplification is not a good thing. You must find the balance between simplifying your technology and maintaining the flexibility needed for the next innovation, which in this case is AI.

Let’s be clear: AI is complex, so be careful of vendors that offer to simplify everything—as long as it’s inside their box. Many companies have been caught flat-footed by the enormous multicloud

integration needed to successfully benefit from AI projects. This is where we excel.

We’re a pioneer in AI data infrastructure, currently enabling our customers to integrate, access, and manage the full lifecycle of their AI data—anywhere. Our storage works with leading machine learning operations (MLOps) platforms by using open, flexible integrations to new data architectures for better scalability, security, and efficiency.

With over 300 customers running AI workloads on our systems and our strong engineering relationships with NVIDIA, Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, it’s safe to say we’re an industry leader.

But let’s address the elephant in the

TECHNOLOGY
| 20 | Global Trend Monitor

room: the challenges that come with AI in the enterprise. Buckle up, because we’re diving into AI innovations, data security, sustainability, and gaining a competitive edge.

PUTTING PEOPLE FIRST: RESPONSIBILITY MATTERS

When implementing AI, it’s crucial to consider its impact on people. We’re committed to helping reduce bias in language models and minimizing the use of synthetic media. Rather than replacing your teams, empower them with AI tools to enhance their effectiveness and productivity. In marketing, we’ve already witnessed remarkable AI-driven improvements in understanding and targeting our desired audiences.

PRIVACY PROTECTION: HANDLE WITH CARE

The democratization of AI means that every employee wields incredible power. But what happens when sensitive customer or employee data falls into the wrong hands? The risk to personally identifiable information (PII) has never been greater. Stay one step ahead by prioritizing foundational hybrid cloud data protection. Trust us, regulatory bodies are catching on fast, and legal protections will tighten.

PLANET-FRIENDLY AI: LET’S TALK SUSTAINABILITY

As AI language models become more sophisticated, their processing power and energy consumption skyrocket. The more AI we use, the greater the negative impact on the planet.

It’s time to address this pressing issue head-on. Gartner estimates that AI can actually help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5% to 15%. As leaders, we need to openly discuss and prioritize the sustainability impact of AI. The benefits must outweigh the environmental costs.

AI AND IP: OUR SECRET SAUCE

This year, everyone seems to be asking about how we’re using AI at NetApp. Our use of AI is a competitive differentiator, and we’re not alone in keeping it under wraps. Most of our 300+ AI customers prefer to keep their AI strategies confidential, too.

But rest assured, AI is deeply ingrained in our operations. The NetApp® Active IQ® Digital Advisor tool uses machine learning and predictive analytics to enhance storage system health, availability, security, and sustainability. In marketing, we’ve been leveraging machine learning for years to understand and support our customers better.

We’re even harnessing generative AI to elevate the customer experience and boost our creative team’s efficiency. Our engineering teams are trailblazers, driving innovation with early adoption of generative AI.

Recently, we introduced ChatGPT capabilities across the company, fostering IP protection and encouraging experimentation.

Our use of AI leads the industry, and we’re excited to help our customers accelerate innovation. AI transformation will be bigger than digital transformation. Hang on for the ride. It’s going to be fantastic.

Get prepared—read the IDC report on storage infrastructure considerations for AI and deep learning training.

ARE WE SMART ENOUGH FOR SMART CITIES?

Smart cities are becoming a reality rather than a concept and integrating technology into everyday infrastructure has become the norm. They present local authorities with a vast number of opportunities, including data-driven decision making, enhanced engagement between citizens and government, and a reduced environmental footprint. Though, as with any new technologies there are many risks to consider when becoming a smart city.

Arguably one of the biggest threats is their vulnerability to cyberattacks. This is because using large, connected networks gives cybercriminals more entry points than ever before and the perfect opportunity to jump from one exposed system to the next.

Now, while we should never let fear get in the way of innovation, it’s essential that we adequately prepare ourselves with robust security protocols.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES FACING SMART CITIES IN 2023?

Smart cities face unique challenges when it comes to cybersecurity. Networks are used by public and private entities, people and thousands of IoT devices each day. The massive amount of data exchanged across these networks requires a stringent security strategy. Some of the main challenges include:

Connected devices

A multitude of IoT devices that control everything from CCTV and traffic light management to organizations personal and financial data could be connected to a network at any one time.

In theory this sounds ideal for seamless communication and management, but in practice it offers hackers thousands of potential entry points to launch an attack.

Automation of infrastructure operations

Automation brings many benefits for all kinds of operations for smart cities, reducing the need for direct human control over such operational systems. The increase of sensors means more connections to monitor and manage. These could be seen as more targets to compromise through vulnerabilities.

Sub-standard data management processes

Data is at the heart of any smart city and is critical to everyday operations. However, many lack the correct processes to ensure this information is managed safely and securely. If a database is not policed correctly, it can be simple for hackers to target and compromise, which leads to sensitive data being leaked or stolen.

Risks from the ICT supply chain and vendors: We know the risks posed by the supply chain and third parties. This

TECHNOLOGY
| 22 | Global Trend Monitor

was particularly evident during the recent zero-day vulnerability found in file transfer software MOVEit, which was subsequently exploited as part of a largescale ransomware attack.

Threat actors continue to target the weakest links and therefore attacking smart infrastructure systems are bound to be a lucrative target for any cybercriminal. To combat this, it is key that we adopt and adhere to secure-bydesign and default practices to minimise these risks.

Outdated technology: Many cities have infrastructure and networks built on outdated technology which leaves them susceptible to cyberattacks. Ensuring systems are up to date with the latest software updates and security patches is paramount. Technology is central to the success of any smart city and having resilient systems should be a priority.

Inefficient security: Linked directly to outdated technology, having inefficient security protocols in place exposes smart

cities to malicious threats. This leaves citizens and organizations vulnerable to data breaches, identify theft and loss of sensitive information.

Protecting existing infrastructure with robust security measures could prevent a potentially disastrous breach. So, how do we ensure that the safety, security and privacy of those who live and work in smart cities is not compromised?

BUILDING CYBER RESILIENCE WITHIN SMART CITIES

Research suggests that by 2024 there will be over 1.3 billion wide-area network smart city connections. The level of complexity within these digital infrastructures is only increasing which means any digital services implemented by a government or organization are vulnerable to cyberattacks. To realize their potential, smart cities need to find an effective balance between managing risk and enabling growth.

Building resilience to protect your city against these attacks is key, but how is this achieved? The starting point should be developing a cybersecurity strategy that maps on to the broader objective of your smart city.

This will help mitigate risks arising from the interconnectedness of city processes and systems. Part of any effective strategy should be the requirement to carry out an assessment of current data, systems and cyber defenses as this will help to give an idea of current posture and quality of infrastructure.

Creating a formal relationship between cybersecurity and the governance of data will also be extremely beneficial. This essentially creates an agreed approach to cybersecurity between all parties within a smart city, meaning all stakeholders work together to ensure data is secure across the networks it's being exchanged. The policies put in place will mature alongside a city's cyber strategy and add transparency to processes.

Finally, building strategic partnerships to help address the cybersecurity skills shortage is key to any successful security strategy. This is a good way to develop skills and increase your knowledge base which in turn bolsters overall security posture and resilience. For example, recently the CISA, NSA, FBI,

NCSC-UK, ACSC, CCCS and NCSC-NZ released a document with guidance on best practices for smart cities. The aim is not only to protect these connected spaces from malicious threats but also to share expertise and educate us on the importance of cybersecurity within smart cities.

GET SMART AND BE PROACTIVE

It goes without saying, smart city technologies need to adopt a proactive methodology to ensure cyber security risks are the forefront of planning and design of technologies. Being ‘secure by design’ is strongly recommended in conjunction with a defense in depth approach.

There may be some legacy infrastructure connecting to the smart infrastructure, and this may require a redesign to make sure secure connectivity and integration is possible.

Hackers will continue to exploit vulnerabilities. An overwhelming number of cyberattacks against businesses could be avoided if supply chain and third-party security is taken seriously. Attackers are exceptionally quick to start exploiting vulnerabilities in well-known products.

Invest in the resources to help combat the everyday struggle of security patches and updates. You don’t want to get caught out by the very thing you expect to protect your business.

Underpinning the implementation of smart city technology is operational resilience. To make sure organizations are well prepared, contingencies are put in place for different types of incidents, which could have operational impact or disruption. Autonomous functionality and isolation tools should exist to help minimize these types of disruption.

Risk, privacy and legality all play an important role in smart cities, making sure data being collected, stored and processed is in accordance with regulations.

It’s critical that city leaders, developers and business owners don’t see securing cyber risk within their smart city as a onetime objective. It’s an ongoing, evolving process that could be the difference between a major breach or major growth.

HOW INVESTMENT IN NETWORK SECURITY IS MATURING FOR GLOBAL COMMUNICATION SERVICE PROVIDERS

Priorities have changed since 2021 when A10 Networks first surveyed communication service providers (CSPs) to better understand their priorities and requirements coming out of the pandemic. In 2023, the world is now a very altered place, and while the pandemic is largely over, this challenge has been superseded by geopolitical and economic uncertainty on an equally global scale.

Undoubtedly, connectivity played a vital role in keeping the wheels of society and business turning during the pandemic - what would we have done without our video calls and the internet? But it is equally, if not more, essential in today’s uncertain

world that CSPs continue to play an important role in keeping society connected.

PRIORITISING CYBER HYGIENE

Over the last couple of years, cyber hygiene has come a long way, particularly during and just after the pandemic. When our report delved into security investments back in 2021, we found that most CSPs focused on basic security upgrades, such as firewalls. This year, however, our survey respondents are aiming for a more mature, multi-layered, and defence-in-depth approach.

Our 2023 survey: Global Communication Service Providers

at A10 Networks

– Market Growth Fuels Security Investments, shows that the percentage investment prioritising firewalls dropped from 48% in 2021 to 28% in 2023. Beyond firewalls, other investments were cited such as DDoS detection and monitoring, DDoS cloud scrubbing, automation of security policies, and investment in ransomware and malware protection services.

These were all deemed of equal importance to firewalls, while there was also considerable interest in simplifying and integrating disparate point solutions. This suggests that the security purchases prompted by pandemic urgency now need to be rationalised.

SUSTAINED GROWTH IN NETWORK SECURITY

While the pandemic surge has passed, we found that surveyed professionals are still predicting sustained growth at a considerable rate, with the average global growth in traffic volumes over the coming two years expected to be around 58% worldwide. Likewise, investment in network security is also strong.

In fact, all but two respondents out of 2,750 senior IT professionals said they are investing in network security in the coming two to three years. This is not surprising as the number of DDoS weapons used to launch attacks that have been tracked by A10 through 2022 was estimated at 15 million, and Microsoft’s 2022 Defence report showed an average of 1,955 attacks per day, up 40% yearon-year in 2022.

Downtime costs money. Therefore, for CSPs, maintaining reliable services is essential. To this point, maintaining quality services and avoiding outages were among the top-three business challenges perceived by this year’s survey respondents as they evolve and expand their services and infrastructure in an increasingly complex digital environment.

THE EVOLVING CYBERSECURITY ENVIRONMENT PRESENTS CHALLENGES

Survey respondents identified a range of challenges, arising from both the prevailing cybersecurity environment and external macroeconomic factors, as their networks evolve to new technologies and architectures.

Of greatest concern for most CSPs is the increased risk generated by exposed APIs. This, combined with supply chain challenges that have been widespread in the past three years, and maintaining quality service to avoid service outages, were cited as the top-three challenges.

Right now, CSPs are at a crucial point as they aim to capitalise on demand and seize opportunities to grow.

This means they need to scale their networks while also protecting them, which is why network security is so critical to their ongoing success, especially if they are to effectively manage the increase in subscribers, devices, and applications to meet their growth plans.

To do this effectively, we recommend that they work with trusted security partners to protect and scale their networks.

They should also look at how they can supersede legacy systems and deploy new technologies such as AI, machine learning, threat intelligence, and other capabilities that are a match for the growing threat levels in networks today.

Of equal importance is how they can leverage automation to simplify management, improve control over network resources, and guarantee uptime while gaining full visibility into all their network traffic.

DEMAND SHOWS NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN

For CSPs, the growing traffic demand shows no signs of abating, even in today’s volatile market. According to industry analysis the global telecom services market size was valued at USD 1,805.61 billion in 2022 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.2% from 2023 to 2030.

That said, the next year looks set to be a bumpy one for many global markets, and CSPs will not be entirely insulated from the volatility. To offset this, businesses are looking to step up innovation and digital transformation.

This makes network security even more important, and CSPs must take all appropriate steps to secure themselves from both cyberattacks and turbulent market conditions. Network security will be critically important when it comes to ensuring that a business is truly robust and ready for the future.

RANSOMWARE IS INDISCRIMINATORY –PREPARE FOR EVERYTHING TO FAIL

Ransomware attacks continue to grow in frequency. As well as being more common, ransomware is also getting more potent. As per Veeam’s 2023 Ransomware Trends Report 21% of companies paid the ransom but could not recover their data.

The threat landscape is as volatile as it has ever been. There are more attacks taking place. They are more diverse. And they can have grave consequences for the companies they affect.

On the other hand, rather than tremble with fear at the awesome power of the cyber attacks waiting to be deployed against them, organizations must focus on what they can control – their defence. Protecting your business against cyber-attacks requires following some

fundamental and consistent principles –no matter what is being thrown at you.

THE RANSOMWARE WILD WEST

There is a lawless and brutal feeling about the current cyber landscape businesses operate in. It is difficult for governments to hold cybercriminals to account and businesses are often keen to minimise public attention towards an incident that has compromised them. This contributes to a situation where almost all the focus is on the victim (the business) rather than the criminal (the attacker).

Furthermore, ransomware – and most contemporary cybercrime – is almost indiscriminatory in terms of those who suffer. The fact is that every business is

a target. Yes, hacktivist organisations such as Anonymous use organised cyber-attacks as a means of exercising social justice and to call out businesses or governments they view as immoral, unlawful, or dangerous.

But even the most philanthropic and virtuous companies can find themselves begging a cybercriminal gang to restore their data and systems while a hefty ransom is demanded of them to do so.

You often see a comparison made between cyber-attacks and fishing. Hence the term ‘phishing’ which refers to using an email or text being used as bait to trick a victim into ‘biting’ – in this case clicking on the link and unwittingly downloading malware onto their device. With ransomware especially we are now

TECHNOLOGY | 26 | Global Trend Monitor

seeing industrial-scale attacks being carried out which are more analogous to trawler fishing. This isn’t one guy with a rod casting out to get a bite off one or two fish. It’s AI-infused algorithms programmed to target everyone and everything – playing a blind numbers game to catch whatever it can.

This indiscriminate nature is compounded by the fact cyber-attacks are generally difficult to contain. For example, cyber warfare between nation states is a threat to every organisation –not just those deemed to be in the firing line.

We saw this with the NotPetya attack in 2017 – an attack on a specific utility company – which impacted multiple unrelated organisations through an entirely organic spread of the chaos. Attack types also continue to evolve.

For example, the LokiLocker attack was one of the first reported strains of ransomware to include a disk wiper functionality. This means organisations are not only held to ransom by having services suspended and threats of data extortion. Now they are being threatened with losing vast swathes of data completely if they do not pay up.

CONSISTENT PRINCIPLES OF DEFENCE

There is some good news for businesses. No matter how scalable, spreadable, or malicious an attack is, these various evolutions can be viewed as attackers simply using bigger guns and more of them. The fundamental principles of how you prepare your defences against even the most sophisticated and powerful ransomware stay relatively the same.

First, practice impeccable digital hygiene. All employees must be trained to identify suspicious content and be warned of the impact that malpractice using work devices can lead to.

For all the might at the hands of cybercriminals, in many ways their biggest weapons are unsuspecting employees who give them the keys to the back door of an enterprise network.

Given the scatter gun approach now adopted by many cyber-attacks,

criminals are not necessarily targeting your organisation specifically. But if you prove to be an easy hit, you’ll become a victim.

With that said, all businesses must prepare for their defences to fail – no matter how robust you might think they are. Concepts such as zero trust and deploying techniques such as twofactor authentication can be useful for restricting the access an attacker has to data by taking over one individual’s workstation.

Ultimately, the best way to protect data is to ensure that it has been securely backed up and is fully recoverable before an incident takes place. Follow the 3-21-1-0 backup rule, which states there should always be at least three copies of data, on at least two different types

of media, at least one off-site and one immutable or offline, with zero unverified backups or errors. While the headlines and constant discussion around cybersecurity and ransomware can be daunting, it’s important to remember than the fundamental actions required to protect data remain the same.

Data Protection and Ransomware Recovery strategies ensure businesses can protect all data from cyber-attacks, server outages, accidental loss and deletion across physical, virtual, cloud, SaaS, and Kubernetes environments.

Investing in a data protection strategy and taking advantage of a solution that enables continuous backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) can give businesses peace of mind that should the worst happen, they never need to pay the ransom.

MY SPIRITUAL ODYSSEY A Journey to Makkah for Umrah

TRAVEL
| 30 | Global Trend Monitor

After years of living in the Middle East, I finally went on my Umrah journey, often described as a 'lesser pilgrimage,' but the spiritual weight it carries is anything but minor. I embarked on this journey with a heart full of hope and a soul yearning for spiritual closeness. What I found was an experience that transcended my expectations and left me profoundly changed.

From the moment I was picked up from the airport the journey was seamless. The Pullman Hotel, right on the doorstep of the mosque served as a sanctuary of comfort, setting the stage for the spiritual odyssey that awaited me. Here, I met fellow pilgrims from all corners of the globe, each with their own stories and spiritual quests.

The diversity of the Muslims was striking. From different countries and cultures, we were all united in our purpose. The conversations I had were enriching, adding layers of depth to my own understanding of faith and humanity.

THE HEART OF MAKKAH

Setting foot in Makkah was like stepping into another realm. The air was thick with devotion, and the sight of the Kaabah struck me with an overwhelming sense of awe. Words fail to capture the emotions that surged through me; it's an understanding that perhaps only those who have been in its presence can truly grasp.

The electric atmosphere as you go around the Kaabah consumes every part of your being in the most beautiful way and it finally dawns on you why so many people around the world sacrifice all they have to have a moment at the Kaabah.

THE ACT OF UMRAH

Performing Umrah was unlike anything I had ever experienced. The crowds were a sea of unwavering focus, each individual lost in their prayers as they circled the Kaabah. It was a moment frozen in time, a collective act of worship that I will carry in my heart forever. While I did some of my own prayers, some of the duas chanted by the groups were so melodious that I followed the different ones at various stages of my time there.

THE WALK BETWEEN THE HILLS

The Sa'i, or the walk between the hills of Safa and Marwah, was a physical challenge that paled in comparison to the spiritual upliftment it provided. Despite the ache in my legs, an inexplicable strength propelled me

forward. I prayed in between, for my parents, relatives, friends, and even for myself—each step a testament to human resilience and divine grace.

THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

Makkah is a city that defies the norms of time. Its pulse is constant, and the energy is infectious. The streets are alive with the spirit of worship, commerce, and community. It's a city you never want to leave, a city that holds you in its spiritual embrace. If you need to eat at 2am or 4am in the morning, the restaurants are buzzing with people of all ages from all over the world.

THE MELODIOUS AZAAN

The call to prayer, or Azaan, was the symphony that elevated my Umrah experience. Its melody resonated with the very core of my being, compelling me to join the congregation for each prayer. It was as if the Azaan had unlocked a deeper level of devotion within me.

LESSONS AFROM UMRAH

My journey to Umrah was a spiritual milestone. It brought me closer to God and opened my eyes to my own strength—both physical and spiritual. It taught me the joy of giving through zakaat and reaffirmed my faith and Iman. Above all, it made me grateful for every blessing, big or small, that I have been granted.

The journey was a tapestry of experiences, woven together by threads of faith, resilience, and divine love. It was a pilgrimage of the soul, a journey that has left an indelible mark on my spiritual canvas. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

STYLISH AND SEAWORTHY SEAMASTER: A DIAL DESIGNED TO INSPIRE.

To celebrate OMEGA’s oceangoing icon, the Swiss brand has produced a new collection with bold dials that include a striking tone reminiscent of a perfect day on a boundless sea.

The seven iconic models - eleven watches in all – track a trajectory from dressy to serious dive tech. Common to all is OMEGA's Summer Blue, used in greater or lesser degrees to reflect the water resistance of each Seamaster and relate its depth-defying credentials at a glance: Aqua Terra represents the sundrenched surface, Ultra Deep the dark abyss.

The story of the Seamaster begins 16 years before it was born, with the launch of the OMEGA “Marine” in 1932 - the world’s first divers’ watch available to civilian divers. This ingenious timepiece successfully tested at 73 metres below the surface of Lake Geneva, also proved water-resistant at a depth of 135 meters, when pressure-tested inside the Laboratory of Watchmaking Research

in Neuchatel. This impressive start set the course for OMEGA’s rapid advancements in underwater design.

During the years of WWII, OMEGA delivered more than 110,000 watches for the pilots, navigators, and soldiers of Great Britain’s Ministry of Defence to support its Air Force and Navy pilots during service. That unprecedented experience allowed OMEGA to progress quickly in the fields of water resistance, anti-magnetism, and robustness, and create a series of watches that could withstand the harshest conditions.

Today, OMEGA is able to test every one of its water-resistant watches in a real underwater environment, thanks to the brand’s industryleading facilities and the certification standards set by METAS (the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). These timepieces pay tribute to an extraordinary history of innovation, exploration, ocean-tested performance and design.

WATCHES | 46 | Global Trend Monitor

OMEGA’s Aqua Terra collection now includes three new models with symmetrical cases and crowns in stainless steel. The 38 mm edition, powered by OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8800, has sailboat indexes and a polished and brushed bracelet formed of beautifully rounded links. The model sized 41 mm offers wearers a choice of a matching bracelet or blue rubber strap. Its driving force is OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8900. All watches have a new dial in sunbrushed Summer Blue, varnished with a gradient finish to reflect the water resistance of the Aqua Terra: an impressive 150 metres. To complement this colour, OMEGA has filled the rhodium-plated hands and indexes with a unique light blue Super-LumiNova.

The 43 mm Aqua Terra Worldtimer in stainless steel, available on a matching bracelet or blue rubber strap, presents a colourful view of Earth. Around the dial is a circle of silvery printed global destinations. Bridging the outer and inner displays, hesalite glass reveals a 24-hour reading with light blue to indicate daytime and dark blue to indicate night.

The 41 mm Seamaster 300 has a symmetrical case and crown in polished and brushed stainless steel, with matching bracelet. As the name makes clear, this watch takes 300 metres in its stride and its varnished dial, in Summer Blue, reflects this deeper level of water resistance.

This 42 mm Seamaster Diver 300M in stainless steel, available on a matching bracelet or blue rubber strap, is a worthy addition to OMEGA’s classic dive watch collection. In keeping with its commemorative cousins, it has a Summer Blue wave-pattern ceramic dial, varnished with a gradient finish to reflect its water resistance.

Those looking for serious dive tech seek out OMEGA’s Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M. As its name make clear, it is well and truly at home in the ocean, performing brilliantly 600 metres beneath the surface. Powered by OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8800, this 39.5 mm model has a case and bracelet in stainless steel.

This 2023 Ploprof, crafted in O-MEGASTEEL with a sun-brushed Summer Blue dial, takes its design cues from OMEGA’s original model, which aarrived on the market in 1971. The bezel ring is a sapphire crystal, to mirror the chemically reinforced monolithic crystal used in those early versions.

The first Ultra Deep watches made history when they reached the deepest place on Earth. This 45.5 mm model has a case and bracelet in robust O-MEGASTEEL and an extraordinary dial that pays homage to the mysteries of the deep. Its pattern is an exact representation of the Challenger Deep mapped by the Five Deeps team using almost one million sonar points.

In the 1950s, OMEGA set out to create a symbol that would represent the entire Seamaster collection. Every watch detailed above has a striking commemorative caseback. The Seamaster logo, depicting a trident-bearing Poseidon and two seahorses: OMEGA’s 1956 original and the brand’s current design.

Thanks to the experience of the Ferretti Group and Studio De Simoni teams, the distribution and use of space on Pershing GTX116 is extremely intelligent, with a fluid flow system connecting the generous internal and external living areas – including the two stairways built into the superstructure that link the main deck and the sportbridge – as well as allowing natural light to flood in.

Some of the external features, such as the ventilation grills and windshield visor, were produced for the first time using 3D printing technology to obtain subtly unconventional geometries. The stern garage can accommodate a jet tender up to 5.2 metres long and a jet ski, while hidden in the bulwark is a crane to facilitate moving the water toys into and out of the water.

With a design approach that ensures

seamless interconnection, the exteriors and interiors of the new Pershing GTX116 become part of the same space, facilitating onboard flows and enhancing the liveability of the areas involved.

For the interiors, Fulvio De Simoni Yacht Design envisaged lavishly-sized modern spaces that perfectly embody this model’s innovative personality. The interior design concept is defined by a dialogue between dark wood in the verticals and pale colour tones on the ceilings.

The eucalyptus wood furnishings in all the yacht’s living areas have a 45-degree specular grain pattern to accentuate the chiaroscuro effect, as well as being set in a solid wood frame that matches the walls to create visual continuity.

The new Pershing GTX116’s decor features top design brands including Poltrona Frau, the longstanding partner chosen for the sofa in the main deck saloon, the furniture frames, and the headboards and bed frames in the cabins, and Ernestomeda for the fully appointed galley. The Altraluce lighting takes the form of individual spotlights mounted on black aluminium bars.

MAIN DECK

The Main Deck is the focus of innovation in the new GTX range and extends across

two levels, the first designed for outdoor life in contact with the sea and the second for socialising and conviviality.

On the first level is the spacious beach club, a 40-square-metre teak-covered area at the water’s edge, consisting of an extended stern platform and a sundeck separated by lateral gunwales. The latter have a hydraulic mechanism that merges the two areas into a single generous space, which can also be used under way and has access to the cockpit (over 35 square metres) on the second level.

The cockpit is a truly panoramic space with an external social and dining area and a bar. The cockpit also leads into the lavishly-sized main saloon, which offers a unique experience and an unprecedented sensation of seamless contact with the water thanks to its extensive glazing and sheer spaciousness.

At the entrance to the saloon, a large living space furnished with armchairs and an L-shaped sofa seating ten offers breathtaking sea views thanks to the possibility of a lateral sliding door that opens onto a terrace extending over the water and more than four metres long.

Further forward, the dining area has a large table seating up to ten people, while

the galley, depending on the owner’s needs, can also be designed with a bar counter - show kitchen.

Two doors – one in the saloon and one in the galley – provide discreet access to the helm station, where the windscreen, a single piece uninterrupted by verticals, wraps around the entire breadth of the superstructure (around five metres). The bridge is characterised by a futuristic console, black leather upholstery and a carbon fibre pilot seat.

This magnificent one-off exercise is custom designed specifically for this yacht, with onboard instrumentation featuring even more advanced technology than the brand’s already high standard. The top choice version is fitted with latest-generation ultra-wide Navico-Simrad screens for high-precision navigation.

The generous sun area in the bow can be fitted with an optional Whirlpool Jacuzzi.

LOWER DECK

The five-cabin night area has a centrally positioned full-beam owner’s cabin, two doubles and two twins, all with private bathroom, plus a sixth bathroom off the main stairway.

Owners also have the choice of an alternative layout in which one of the guest cabins is replaced by a lower saloon for guests to enjoy in intimate privacy.

Further forward are the crew quarters, with a pantry, a laundry and three cabins for a five-member crew (two twins for the crew and a single for the captain).

To enable the owner and their guests to enjoy absolute privacy, the crew area

connects directly to the helm station on the main deck. The yacht is also designed with crew-only passageways so that crew members have no need to cross spaces reserved for the owner and guests.

SPORTBRIDGE

The sportbridge is another of the innovations introduced into the sport superyacht segment by Pershing GTX116: a deck of over 40 square metres partially covered by a hardtop and featuring a fully equipped bar area with seating built into the main structure.

Forward, on the other hand, is the exterior helm station, with up to three sport seats to give guests a thrilling hands-on experience.

ENGINE ROOM

The engine room contains a triple waterjet propulsion system, the result of a huge design effort by the product team to fit all the components into a smaller space, so providing more room for the garage and beach area. The result of this strategy is a high-tech engine room that demonstrates how innovative systems can be concentrated, while also achieving extraordinary performance levels.

PROPULSION AND TECHNOLOGY

Pershing GTX116 is equipped with a triple water jet propulsion system that can be paired with three MAN V12 2000 engines, each rated 2,000 mhp (optional), for a top speed of 34 knots and a cruising speed of 29 knots.

The standard engines are three MAN V12 1800 units rated 1,800 mhp. The yacht has a RINA Class Certificate for Pleasure Yachts.

TOP TIPS TO STAY HYDRATED THIS SUMMER

Nishrat Nazeen, MD, Aromas Fiji

As the temperature rises and the sun shines brighter, it's crucial to prioritize staying hydrated during the scorching summer months. Dehydration can lead to a range of health issues, from heat exhaustion to heatstroke.

To help you beat the heat and keep your body adequately hydrated, we've compiled a list of top tips to ensure you stay cool and refreshed all summer long.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

The simplest and most effective way to stay hydrated is by drinking water. Aim to consume at least eight glasses of water each day, and increase your intake if you're sweating heavily due to physical activity or hot weather. Carry a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go to make it convenient to sip throughout the day.

ADD FLAVOR TO YOUR WATER

If plain water doesn't entice you, infuse it with natural flavors like lemon, cucumber, mint, or berries. This not only enhances the taste but also encourages you to drink more. Herbal teas and water infused with fruits are excellent alternatives to sugary beverages.

EAT WATER-RICH FOODS

Incorporate fruits and vegetables with high water content into your diet. Cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries,

and oranges are excellent choices. These foods not only provide hydration but also essential vitamins and minerals.

AVOID EXCESSIVE CAFFEINE AND ALCOHOL

Caffeine and alcohol can contribute to dehydration, so limit your consumption of these beverages, especially on hot days. If you do indulge, be sure to balance it with extra water to stay hydrated.

SET REMINDERS

In our busy lives, it's easy to forget to drink water regularly. Use smartphone apps or set alarms to remind yourself to hydrate throughout the day. Consistency is key to staying adequately hydrated.

DRINK BEFORE YOU FEEL THIRSTY

Thirst is often a sign that you are already mildly dehydrated. Don't wait until you feel parched; instead, sip water consistently throughout the day to stay ahead of your body's hydration needs.

WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING

Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen to help your body stay cool and reduce sweating.

This can aid in preventing excessive fluid loss due to perspiration.

USE SUN PROTECTION

Sunburn can lead to increased fluid loss through your skin, so always wear sunscreen and protective clothing when spending time outdoors. Sunburn can exacerbate dehydration and heatrelated illnesses.

BE MINDFUL OF ELECTROLYTES

When you sweat, you lose not only water but also essential electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Consider drinking electrolyte-rich beverages or consuming foods like bananas, nuts, and yogurt to replenish these vital nutrients.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY

Pay attention to your body's signals. If you experience symptoms of dehydration, such as dark urine, dizziness, dry mouth, or fatigue, take them seriously and take immediate steps to rehydrate. In severe cases, seek medical attention.

Staying hydrated during the summer is crucial for your overall well-being. By following these top tips, you can ensure that you maintain optimal hydration levels, enjoy the warm weather to the fullest, and reduce the risk of heatrelated health issues. Remember, a well-hydrated body is better equipped to handle the summer heat and keep you feeling your best
