EATING HEALTHILY AS THE SEASONS CHANGE FOR WINTER
Why is it hard to eat healthy in the winter?
Many fruits and vegetables are no longer fresh or as affordable since the bounty of summer produce has passed. The cold weather stokes our cravings for comfort foods and it can be easy to turn away from healthy whole foods and plantbased meals to indulge in heavier and richer foods.

Here’s what you need to know to boost your immune system and keep your health tip-top over the winter months.
As the nights draw in, our thoughts will no doubt turn to warming pies, stews and roasts and other winter warming comfort food. There’s nothing wrong with indulging a little over the winter months, but how do you make sure you get all the nutrition your body needs to fight off colds and flu?
Here are some tips on what to eat to get all the nutrients you need in those dark days:
1. Start your day with porridge, adding nuts seeds and seasonal winter fruits and berries
2. Choose fruit and veggies rich in vitamin C , include sweet potato, tomatoes, red peppers and citrus fruits to your meals
3. Add a source of zinc such as spinach, oysters and legumes
4. Eat more iron rich foods – or take a supplement – red meats, lentils, and green leafy vegetables, you may consider taking a natural iron supplement
5. Include a good source of Vitamin B12 with portions of cod, salmon, as well as milk cheese and eggs, these will up your energy levels
Broth-based soups, squash, and roasted vegetables are all good ways to stay warm while still eating healthy. Don't feel like cooking? Take advantage of your crockpot and make comfort foods like chicken noodle soup or a roast with vegetables
