Sherborne Business Breakfast

Generously hosted by Simons Muirhead Burton LLP

Thursday 30 November 2023

Welcome to the second Sherborne Business Breakfast of 2023, where today we will get an insight into digital disruption in the news media from Colin Keatinge (h 92). With over 25 years of experience in journalism, Colin brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. We are grateful to Colin for joining us. We would also like to thank Rob Coleridge (h 97) and his team here at SMB London for hosting us this morning. Founded in 1971 and based in London’s West End, SMB are recognised in the legal press and the wider industry as leaders across a range of practice areas. From their civil liberties and criminal roots in Soho SMB have grown into a full-service law firm representing individuals and organisations – from people needing a trusted adviser to protect their rights and interests, to start-up businesses looking for professional guidance as they step up to the next level, to substantial businesses as they expand both in the UK and internationally. Since they began, their values and principles have remained at the core of their firm, as has the Death Penalty Project, the charity they founded and continue to support. We hope you enjoy the breakfast and talk this morning. Many thanks John Harden - Old Shirburnian Society Secretary Anne Macfarlane - Alumni Officer Richard Hunt - Head of the Sherborne Foundation

Colin Keatinge (h 92) Colin has worn many hats over the years, working as an editor and reporter for local newspapers, legal magazines, and news agencies. For the past 15 years, he has been an editor at Bloomberg News, with a substantial presence in London, Singapore, and Tokyo. Bloomberg News stands as a global beacon in financial news, operating a network of bureaus that produce approximately 5,000 stories a day. These stories reach audiences through various platforms, such as the Internet, mobile, TV, digital video, radio, print, and live events, while also being syndicated to over 440 publications worldwide. Colin's roles have included helping create the company's system for distributing breaking news, setting up a scrolling FX news product and launching its innovative live blog service in Asia.
