Modern Art Deco Extension

Suzie Tipple lives in a beautiful Victorian property full of traditional period features. When contemplating the design of a new fully glazed single-storey extension, it was important to Suzie that the new build was sympathetic to the design of the original building.

One of the specifications of the new build was to allow plenty of natural light into the new room, whilst allowing unhindered views of the garden and beyond. Suzie is an Interior Designer and having carried out research into the different glazing options available, she envisaged that Black Art Deco windows with their distinctive symmetry and geometric patterns would be ideal.

The bold, streamlined designs of Art Deco have made a come back in recent years and having originated in the 1920’s, they would perfectly complement the traditional aesthetics of her home, which was built around that time.

When it came to choosing which Art Deco system to install, Suzie’s Architect recommended the Aluco Steel Replica Elegance Range, with sleek, slim sightlines, one of the products offered by Sherborne Windows.

When undertaking refurbishments to our homes, finding the right company to work with is important as it can make a big difference to the overall experience. Having worked with Sherborne Windows on client’s projects, Suzie got in touch to discuss her requirements and arranged an appointment for a member of the Sherborne team to call at her home.

Suzie said “We looked at our plans together and discussed what had in mind. They were really helpful and made the whole process incredibly smooth and enjoyable. As the new room is essentially a big glass box, the quality of the glass and frames was incredibly important to us. Sherborne also liaised with our Architect to discuss the specification of our new windows, which allowed me time to concentrate on other aspects of the build.

Suzie continued “When the windows were installed, there were a couple of small issues with the double glazed units and Sherborne Windows were brilliant and responded really quickly”.

The single-storey extension has added so much space and really opened up the home. The Art Deco windows stretch full height from the floor to the ceiling which fills the room with daylight.

The Aluco Steel Replica Elegance Range are fitted with argon filled double glazing and achieve excellent thermal performance to keep the home warm. They are also fitted with multi-point locking windows for security. Being made from Aluminium, they are strong, durable and will require very little maintenance to keep the windows looking good for a number of years.

The bespoke window design chosen by Suzie incorporates a number of perfectly symmetrical aluminium georgian bars at the top of each window, to create the impression of six individual pieces of glass at the head of each large pane.

Claire Long, Marketing Director at Sherborne Windows said “We pride ourselves on our Customer Service and the quality of our Installation. When customers get in touch, we take the time to find out what they have in mind and it is important to us that our customers choose products which will complement the character of their home”.

by Sherborne

A glass extension with floor-to-ceiling glazing and bifolding or sliding doors make a fabulous addition to any home. With such large expanses of glass, you can relax and admire your garden or patio from the comfort of your home in all weathers, without the need to step outside.

On warmer days, simply slide your doors open and enjoy how your glazed extension brings a certain glamour to your home.

Conservatories

Conservatories have been popular in homes throughout the UK for many years, creating an extra room within a property which is filled with natural daylight and connects the home and garden.

Modern conservatories with high performance energy efficient glass, ensure that conservatories remain at a comfortable temperature to enjoy all year round. They are available in all shapes and sizes in a wide range of colours, to suit all types of property.

Orangeries

Arguably the most elegant type of home extension, orangeries add a wow factor to any home. Orangeries are often square or rectangular in shape with a bespoke lantern roof which both increases the height of the room and lets in plenty of daylight.

Roof Lights

Roof Lights are often installed in a single storey extension, where there is a flat roof or a roof with a gentle slope. Flat roof lights are contemporary and discreet and they allow plenty of natural light into a room from above. They often installed directly above a kitchen, dining or seating area.

You can choose from a range of different glazing options, including Solar Glass or glass with a blue or bronze tint. Each option offers excellent thermal efficiency.
