FOREVER! Sherborne
Welcome to the Old Shirburnian Society

Leaving Sherborne doesn’t mean leaving the Sherborne community.
Once you receive your A Level results, you become part of a lifelong global network, the Old Shirburnian Society (OSS). Wherever your next steps take
you, Sherborne remains a place you can return to for friendship, support and opportunity. The OSS exists to help you stay connected with one another and with the School, particularly during the exciting (and sometimes uncertain) years immediately after leaving.
Over the coming years, we will support you through university, early careers and beyond, helping you build connections, explore opportunities and stay part of the Sherborne community for life.

Your parents also remain part of the community through the Friends of Sherborne School (FOSS), receiving invitations to events including the FOSS Lunch, the OS City Carol Service, concerts and gatherings both in Sherborne and London.

University Visits
Starting university is a major step and we love catching up with you along the way.
Together with Sherborne Old Girls, we visit major university destinations every two to three years, aiming to see as many OS and OGs as possible during their time at university.
These visits are relaxed and informal, usually held in a local pub or bar. We provide food and drinks, share news from Sherborne, hear what you’ve been up to, and explore how we might support you, whether through careers advice, introductions or opportunities.
Recent visits have included:
• Bath
• Birmingham
• Bristol
• Cambridge
• Cardiff
• Cirencester
• Edinburgh
• Exeter
• Leeds and York
• London
• Loughborough
• Manchester
• Newcastle
• Durham
• Nottingham
• Oxford
• Reading
• Southampton
• St Andrews

Careers Support
One of the most valuable benefits of being an OS is lifelong careers support.
Careers Network
Through Sherborne Connect, nearly 5,000 alumni, parents and international former pupils are connected worldwide, with over 70% actively offering careers advice and support.
This might include:
• CV and application advice
• Insight into different industries and professions
• Career guidance and interview preparation
• Professional introductions and networking
• Work experience opportunities
• Mentoring relationships
Our mentoring programme alone supports hundreds of active partnerships each year.
Best of all, this support is completely free and designed specifically to help you take those important first career steps.

Careers Events
Each year in early September we run Careers Evenings in London, bringing together undergraduates, recent graduates and experienced professionals.
Recent sectors have included:
• AI and Digital Industries
• Finance and The City
• Law
• Media
• Property
• Insurance
• Technology
These events provide invaluable opportunities to ask questions, make contacts and gain real insight into different career paths.
Ongoing Professional Networks
As your career develops, OSS events evolve with you. Industry-specific drinks, lunches and dinners allow OS to reconnect, expand professional networks and support younger OS entering the same fields.
Recent events include:
• Media Lunch
• Law Drinks
• City and Insurance Lunch
• Military Dinner
• Property Lunch
• London Business Breakfasts with keynote speakers

Reunions
Reunions are at the heart of the Old Shirburnian community.
Your 5-Year Reunion is often the first major opportunity to reconnect, sharing stories of university life, travel and early careers alongside friends from Sherborne and Sherborne Girls. We currently host this celebration at The Lockhouse in Paddington Basin, with food provided and the bar covered at the start of the evening.
Further reunions follow at:
• 10 years | 15 years | 20 years | 25 years and beyond
• Your 50-Year Reunion marks entry into the Quinguagesimal (Q) Society, with alternating gatherings in Sherborne and London.
Throughout the year we also host:
• The OS City Carol Service
• OS Day at Sherborne
• House dinners and anniversary celebrations
• London pub evenings
• International reunions worldwide
Recent overseas events have taken place in Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, Dubai, Geneva and San Francisco.
Our LGBTQ+ alumni group also hosts annual London events and maintains an active online community.

Sport remains an important part of life for many OS.

Whether you want to compete, support or simply enjoy the social side, players of all abilities are warmly welcomed. The annual Pilgrims Dinner is a highlight of the sporting calendar.
