TRADITIONAL HALLS

Traditional residence halls offer more options for those interested in our single-room experiences with roommates. Restrooms are shared with nine other students living in a hall wing; each restroom has private stalls and showers with changing areas.

Shaw and Thacher Halls

Students in Shaw and Thacher Halls are typically assigned to two-person rooms, but students may request an individual room. Both halls have study lounges with community kitchens on the second and third floors and vending machines in the lobbies. Free laundry facilities are located on the second floors. Shaw Hall is located on the west side of campus with a great view of the Shepherd Rams baseball diamond — Fairfax Field. Thacher Hall is also on the west side of campus, across the street from the beach volleyball courts.

SUITE-STYLE HALLS

Suite-style halls have plenty to offer. With semi-private bathrooms and extra living space, suite halls are the middleground between traditional halls and apartment living. Suites are typically shared between four to five students.

Miller Hall

With seven suites that each house four to five students, Miller Hall provides an intimate environment and a tightknit community. A full kitchen, vending machines, and a free laundry facility — and Residence Life’s main office — are located on the ground floor of Miller Hall.

Potomac Place

The newest residence hall on campus, Potomac Place provides single- and double-occupancy suite options. With study lounges on each floor, a full community kitchen, and a main lobby, there are many places to connect with fellow Rams. Free laundry facilities are located on the first floor. The Riverside Market, one of Shepherd’s four dining locations, is attached to Potomac Place’s first floor, and beach volleyball courts are right next door.

West Woods

West Woods is a neighborhood of six suite-style residence halls: Boteler, Burkhart, Lurry, Martin, Moler, and Yost. Each hall has three floors each containing four suites, with exterior access on each floor. A West Woods suite consists of a living room, bathroom, and two bedrooms. Free laundry facilities are in Boteler Hall, and the Shepherd University Police Department is in Moler Hall. Martin Hall is reserved for students in the Honors Program and features an honors study lounge.

APARTMENT-STYLE HALLS

The apartments provide the perfect opportunity for independent living. These halls feature a private bathroom, living room, and full kitchen. The apartments are reserved for upperclassmen as well as graduate and transfer students.

Dunlop and Printz Halls

Dunlop and Printz Halls are located across from the tennis and soccer complexes on West Campus. Each building has three levels of 12 apartments with two or three bedrooms. Three-bedroom units have two bathrooms. Vending machines and free laundry facilities are in the lobby of each building.

WEST VIRGINIA COMMUNITIES

Our home of Jefferson County is the perfect place for exploring new interests and discovering new horizons. Serving as a home and neighbor to National Parks, outdoor recreation, and eclectic towns like Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, and Charles Town, there is no shortage of things to do and people to meet.

A DRIVE WORTH TAKING ENJOY STUDENT LIFE WHILE LIVING AT HOME

On campus and in town are various community spaces — from coffee shops to study spaces to the commuter lounge — where you can collaborate with fellow Rams or take some time for yourself.

COMMUTER LOUNGE

In Stutzman-Slonaker Hall is the Commuter Lounge, offering a kitchen and lounge area for studying and gathering. This lounge is conveniently located along North King Street, where most students will be taking many of their classes.

DR. RUTH SCARBOROUGH LIBRARY

Private study rooms are available for reservation on the first and second floors of the Scarborough Library, and the Quiet Study Floor is the perfect place to focus on coursework. After library hours, commuter and residential students can access the 24-hour room.

I chose Shepherd because of its location. I love Shepherdstown and everything the town has to offer, and it’s also about 30 minutes away from my home.

-ABIGAIL MCCOY ‘25

STUDENT CENTER

Directly across from the Scarborough Library is the Student Center, which is open daily with multiple locations to eat, study, relax, and play. The Student Center is also the campus hub for leadership and programming, with offices for the Student Government Association, Program Board, and Office of Student Activities and Leadership.

DOWNTOWN SHEPHERDSTOWN

Only one block from campus, downtown Shepherdstown is lined with cafés and coffee shops for Rams to connect and study together. The small-town atmosphere is also perfect for taking walks and decompressing in between classes.
