An editorial from the Chairman of the Trust, Chris Brown Since retiring I have been trying to learn the French language mainly to keep the dementia at bay, plus I do not like crosswords. Back in October we travelled to the Dordogne region of France for a month so we could immerse ourselves in the French way of life, the only problem faced was that we had invited 6 lots of friends and family over plus we were engrossed with the BBC programme “Celebrity Traitors” so French culture went out of “la fenêtre.” I also found out that the rugby legend that is Courtney Lawes ex-Saints player and now Brive was due to play on a Friday night. I discovered this news after asking the question on a French site in French and being answered in English, typical! So, 4 of us drove to the town of Brive la Gaillarde to watch him play in a game in which they lost. I had given up hope of meeting him after the game because it just seemed too difficult, but as we were leaving the ground he spotted my Saints shirt and came over, truly what a legend!

Continued, an editorial from the Chairman of the Trust, Chris Brown At the end of November Chris Passfield and I visited the Civic offices of the Milton Keynes County Council to listen to their new strategy regarding Sports clubs and potential funding which was interesting as there seems to be funding streams available for certain groups, this will be further explored with the Shenley Leisure Centre and Denbigh Alliance. As a result of this meeting Councilor and ex-Mayor of MK Mick Legg visited our premises and we were able to show him round the centre including the new additions of the golf simulators and the newly laid football pitches. Concerning new developments Chris Passfield and I met with Hinson Cook Architect’s Jagdeep Bhavra regarding the renovation of our changing rooms and toilets and we hope for this work to be signed off and begin construction during the first quarter of 2026. As a foot note my wife Caroline celebrated a significant birthday in December, and she organised a little “shindig” for her family and friends in the “Sportsman’s Rest.” Erica, Kayleigh, Kira, and Matt

worked behind the jump and I have to say that they were brilliant and this was continually mentioned by the partygoers. So, if you need a venue for a party at a competitive price and with lovely staff then don’t look any further just ask our Bar Manager Erica Anson who would be happy to assist!
Updates from Chris Passfield, General Manager
Welcome to the first issue of the year, it follows a 2025 that provided us some challenges that we had to withstand but also many great moments. The highlight for me was the opening of Shenley Fairways, after a few delays and trials we opened on a sunny September evening. Keep an eye out for our January offer. In contrast to opening a facility, we unfortunately had to close both of our astro-turf pitches for an extended time while refurbishment works took place. It was a long wait but well worth it as towards the end of October the pitches were reopened with an improved SISGrass synthetic Xtra 50 surface and Treckboards. Improvements to the pitch entrances will also be taking place soon. Work is also underway with the plans to Picture; new 3G SISGrass refurbish the toilets and changing rooms. I surface on both pitches hope to be able to share more news on this in the next newsletter. Along with returning football bookings we have seen a number of new clubs that have recently started. We now host a monthly Jnr Korfball session, ‘Korfball Academy’ and ladies football via MK Eleven’s Women, and various tutor sessions, details for some of these can be found later in the issue but this is a great example of how diverse our bookings are. It’s certainly keeping Kayleigh (Duty Manger / Block Bookings coordinator) busy and doing a great job in finding space where we can. We had the squash club ‘Shenley LC’ win the Bedfordshire Summer County league which was a great achievement in 2025 and the pool team for the Sportsmens Rest ended the year in a great position with the possibility of promotion on the cards for 2026. Sadly the England Cricket team have lost any chance of bringing the Ashes back but we look forward to the men's World Cup, fingers crossed any home nation fixtures beyond the group stage will have a

kick off time that is not in the early hours for us. This is of course after the Six Nations which starts in February, Winter Olympics and Paralympics in February and March, Commonwealth Games in Scotland in July-Aug plus the Masters, T20 World Cup and the Annual Grand National to mention a few this year. We are starting 2026 with a buy one hour get a second hour free in Shenley Fairways which will be in place throughout January. Word is certainly spreading that we now have indoor golf simulators and the response from the MKFM Facebook campaign is evident of that. Well done to the 5 lucky winners. Towards the end of last year we welcomed back Kelly, one the aerobics instructors who had been needing some rest from the classes for a few months. Sara, our Yoga instructor is currently also in a period of rest and we hope to see her back soon too. While some instructors have been away a huge thanks must go to our other instructors that have been able to step in and keep any disruption to the fitness timetable at a minimum, whether is sickness or holiday cover, everyone has been helping. We have wonderful instructors who have been stepping up not wanting to let our loyal customers down. Part of that organisation and thanks must also go to Mo (Reception Manager) and Dave (Duty Manager) for overseeing the smooth running of the timetable while any changes have taken place. It really is a team effort.
