ALUMNI WEEKEND CELEBRATION

Principal’s Welcome

Welcome Home to Shenandoah!

The beautiful springtime campus of Shenandoah Valley Academy provides the setting for a glorious reunion. Alumni Weekend is a brief and shining moment when the SVA Family is as complete as it will be this side of heaven. It is a precious time to strengthen bonds of friendship with beloved classmates and faculty who have made an important difference in our lives. And it is a special opportunity to meet the wonderful students who attend SVA today.

This weekend is also a time to celebrate and thank you, Alumni. Shenandoah is strong and growing because of your unwavering support, love, and loyalty. Students who attend today become part of the powerful legacy of SVA Adventist boarding school because of you who generously make financial gifts to sustain this special school. Thank you for committing your energies and resources to the well-being of students and the long-term sustainability of SVA. It is my prayer that this weekend will be a time to renew our love for God and each other. I encourage you to partner with your school again by making a financial gift, or by taking time to encourage current students who in turn will share their energy and joy of youth with you.

It is a special honor to have you here… Where Shines the Big Virginia Sun…

Welcome!

Message From The Alumni President

Isn’t it fun to come “home” to SVA Alumni Weekend homecoming?

SVA is so much more than a school. SVA has been a home in some way to each and every one of us. It is a home away from home where we learned in an atmosphere of God’s love. We made lifelong friends by living, working, and studying, surrounded by those who love and serve God. It is “a place, and a feeling, and people” that makes SVA our home. That is why we are here today. I am so thankful to all of you alumni for your support that allows SVA to continue to provide this opportunity to students from all kinds of backgrounds throughout Virginia, Maryland, the United States, and the world.

We all have other places that we call home. I have had many homes in my life: SVA, Dayton, Loma Linda, Collegedale, and Macon. It hasn’t always been the physical place that made it Home, but rather the people, experiences, and feelings I have had there. I also have a home in heaven that I have never seen. It is real though, and filled with love and security. But best of all, it is where I will get to spend eternity close to God our Father.

Enjoy this weekend, laughing, crying, and making new memories with friends new and old. Your presence here makes SVA a better place. Please continue to pray that God’s presence and leading is felt by each one who walks this campus. And as you leave again, think about what home means to you. Do you have more than one home? I hope so. I know I do.

Closing Hymn

In a Little While We’re Going Home Congregation

Let us sing a song that will cheer us by the way,

In a little while we’re going home.

For the night will end in the everlasting day, In a little while we’re going home.

Refrain:

In a little while, in a little while, We shall cross the billow’s foam, We shall meet at last when the stormy winds are past, In a little while we’re going home.

Benediction

We will do the work that our hands may find to do,

In a little while we’re going home;

And the grace of God will our daily strength renew, In a little while we’re going home.

There’s a rest beyond, there’s relief from every care, In a little while we’re going home;

And no tears shall fall in that city bright and fair, In a little while we’re going home.

Thank You 2024

A special thank you to this weekend’s featured speaker Dr. Karl Haffner ‘80. Also, to the Alumni Association officers and volunteers who work to make this very special SVA Family Reunion possible. Thank you to SVA faculty, staff, and student hosts, and New Market Church members, for welcoming everyone so warmly this weekend.

Thank you music directors Daniel Biaggi and Kelly Wiedemann, and SVA student musicians, the keepers of SVA music tradition who lead and coordinate Alumni Weekend music. We are grateful for the glimpse of heaven you provide each year.

It is a great blessing for multiple generations of the SVA Family to fellowship and praise God together. We look forward to Jesus’ soon return when we will enjoy the greatest SVA reunion of all and praise Him together for all eternity. May we all be there!

Our Shenandoah

Where shines the big Virginia sun, And Old Dominion’s streamlets run, From out the Massanutt’s cool shade, And down great Allegheny’s glade, God’s works in nature multiplied, Extol His name on ev’ry side. chorus

O Shenandoah (stomp & clap), dear Shenandoah (stomp & clap), In thee do we delight to rest (clapping) And daily strive to do our best, For Shenandoah, Shenandoah.

In nature’s dooryard neatly planned, A gift is placed by God’s own hand, The S.V.A. of sacred birth, Our own dear school of sterling worth Whose beacon lit by gospel truth, Sheds holy light on paths of youth.

What blighting frost can chill our zeal, Or fury’s evil ever deal, A blow in madness fit to shake

Our faith in thee, O S.V.A!

Or cause our strength in future time, To [fail] before thy cause sublime?

The Lord Is Coming 200

Christ is Coming 201

The Lord is coming, let this be The herald note of jubilee; And when we meet and when we part The salutation from the heart.

Refrain:

The Lord is coming, let this be The herald note of jubilee, The herald note of jubilee.

The Lord is coming, sound it forth

From east to west, from south to north; Speed on! Speed on the tidings glad, That none who love Him may be sad.

This earth with her ten thousand wrongs Will soon be tuned to nobler songs; Our praise shall then, in realms of light, With all His universe unite.

Christ is coming! Let creation

Bid her groans and travail cease; Let the glorious proclamation

Hope restore and faith increase; Christ is coming! Christ is coming!

Come, Thou blessed Prince of Peace! (Prince of Peace!)

Come, Thou blessed Prince of Peace!

With that “blessed hope” before us, Let no harp remain unstrung; Let the mighty advent chorus Onward roll from tongue to tongue: Christ is coming! Christ is coming!

Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come! (Quickly come!)

Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come!
