Hoodstock Youth Music Camp

The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group (HCSEG), the Great Bend Center for Music and Hoodstock are partnering to bring our community the Hoodstock Youth Music Camp this summer.

Camp is from August 14 to August 19 and takes place at the Salmon Center in Belfair, WA each day from 1-4pm, with a special community performance on the last day of camp. The Salmon Center is the headquarters of HCSEG, an environmental nonprofit working to connect land, people and salmon through research, restoration and education around the Hood Canal watershed. While HCSEG currently hosts many youth environmental programs at its headquarters, this unique partnership between HCSEG, the Great Bend Center for Music and Hoodstock will bring an entirely new musical and creative youth education experience to the Salmon Center – and to the greater community.

For the Hoodstock Youth Music Camp commencement day concert, these youth musicians will be kicking off the Hoodstock Music Festival with a live and live-streamed performance at the Union City Market on August 19th 11am-12pm. Hoodstock is an annual music festival on the Hood Canal celebrating community, creativity and expression. This festival strives to be an innovative and positive community event, bringing the immense music talent of the area to the people. Each year Hoodstock also donates proceeds from the event to HCSEG environmental education programs. HCSEG, Hoodstock, and the Great Bend Center for Music are excited to bring even more joy and talent to the Hoodstock music festival by adding the Hoodstock Youth Music Camp musicians to the lineup!

Hoodstock Youth Music Camp is for youth in grades 4-12, and all levels of experience are welcome. Campers will be led by the excellent Great Bend Center for Music Teaching Artist team, who will individualize the experience for each participant to appropriately engage and challenge musicians at all levels of ability. This camp is an amazing opportunity to make new friends, grow your musical talents, and be a part of something truly special.

Campers can expect to receive professional instruction that will refine their ear, boost music literacy, polish rhythm skills and hone intonation. You can sign-up right now for this one-week summer camp and get ready to rock the stage at the Hoodstock Music Festival! Sign-ups are available at the Great Bend Center for Music website: greatbendmusic.org/go/hoodstock-music-camp. Registration is $135 and includes a t-shirt and all necessary materials. While HCSEG, Hoodstock and the Great Bend Center for Music are different organizations, there is a common thread amongst their missions: to provide our youth impactful education programs, and to build a strong and healthy community. Through working together, this new partnership creates greater growth and learning opportunities for Mason County youth, as well as an incredible celebration of art and music for our local community.

HCSEG also hosts two summer youth environmental camps at the Salmon Center, Explore the Fjord (ages 12-16) and Salmon Center Farm Stewards (ages 7-11). Both camps focus on getting kids outside and exploring their local ecosystems through various activities led by HCSEG and program partners. Salmon Center Farm Stewards is from June 20th – August 10th and takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Explore the Fjord is every Friday from July 7th – August 11th. The HCSEG StreamTeam is also starting their internships at the Salmon Center this summer. This internship opportunity is available exclusively to high school students or recent graduates in the Hood Canal watershed, and provides real-world habitat monitoring experience and job skills for future environmentally related careers.
