The LACMA project involves the construction of a new building designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. The building's design includes large, curving concrete walls that span Wilshire Boulevard, the major thoroughfare that runs past the museum. To create these walls, the construction team needed a high-quality plywood material that could be used as formwork to shape the concrete.

One of the challenges faced by the construction team was nding a plywood material that could withstand the pressures and stresses of the concrete casting process. The plywood needed to be strong enough to hold the weight of the wet concrete, while also being smooth and non-stick to ensure that the concrete would release easily once it had set. In addition, the plywood needed to be durable and reusable, as the construction team needed to create multiple identical panels.

SFI’s TigerForm Phenolic Film Plywood was the perfect solution for this project. The plywood is specially designed for use in concrete formwork and is coated with a lm of phenolic resin that provides additional strength, durability, and resistance to moisture and wear. The smooth, non-stick surface of the plywood ensured that the concrete would release easily, while the strong and durable construction allowed the plywood to be reused multiple times. In addition, the custom fabrication and pre-cutting of the plywood into 7' by 7' triangles allowed for easy installation and a precise fit with the concrete panels.
