Study Again Ranks Greenwich America's Safest Community “ Greenwich has again been named America’s Safest City, according to the latest report by the home security company SafeHome.org. Only communities with populations above 50,000 were considered for the report.

The town of Greenwich was settled in 1640. One of the founders was Elizabeth Fones Winthrop who is the daughter-inlaw of John Winthrop, founder & governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Now known as Greenwich Point, it was once known as “Elizabeth’s Neck” in recognition of Fones and the purchase of the Point and much of the area which is now known as Old Greenwich. On May 11, 1665, Greenwich was declared a township by the Connecticut General Assembly.
