D

ecember 17 was my one-year anniversary with Shell Point and the Larsen Pavilion. I can’t believe how quickly it passed! It seems like just yesterday I was getting myself lost trying to find the Schilling Dining Room or figuring out who lived and worked on which floor. For me, it was an exciting year as well as a humbling year. I have been welcomed so graciously by residents, staff, volunteers and visitors that I am truly overflowing with gratitude. I have been offered so much encouragement that I am humbled. And I’ve had the support to implement changes which has energized me. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our recent deficiency-free surveys! I am blessed to be part of the team of staff and volunteers who worked together throughout the year to assure that the care and

services we provide to Pavilion residents are exceptional – as noted by the surveyors. The Pavilion was providing great care and services when I arrived on the scene. But as a pair of “fresh eyes,” there were changes that I felt would improve the care we provide. Some of those changes included implementing a process improvement plan, converting some semi-private rooms into private rooms and revision of some policies, just to name a few. I look forward to 2020. My brain is already going into overdrive with plans to continue on the path of quality improvement with a particular focus on residents with cognitive impairment. I look forward to partnering with many of you on upcoming initiatives – say stay tuned for more information to come. In the meantime, Happy New Year!
