Brookshire Grocery Co.’s 90th Anniversary Brookshire Grocery Co.’s Core Values: The W.T. Way Brookshire Grocery Co. founder W.T. Brookshire believed it was his calling to serve people through the grocery business. In 1928, he opened his first store in downtown Tyler, Texas. Through the years, he built the company on a strong foundation of core values, which is referred to as “The W.T. Way.” These values continue to serve as a guide for decisions and actions and to make Brookshire Grocery Co. the company that it is today.
‘Jump Over the Counter’ Service W.T. Brookshire literally jumped over the counter out of sheer passion for serving customers. He had a real sense of urgency from sun up to sun down. Customers never wondered if they were welcome or appreciated at Brookshire’s because W.T. made sure they knew it. All these decades later, service is still at the very heart of Brookshire Grocery Co.
Do the Right Thing W.T. exemplified honesty, integrity, trust, honor and respect, and he expected the same from his partners. The company strives to uphold the founder’s example of impeccable character.
Competitive Grit W.T. Brookshire epitomized perseverance. When his most profitable store burned to the ground, he rebuilt bigger and better with the first airconditioned grocery store in East Texas. Regardless of the obstacles, W.T. never backed down. 90 Stores in 90 Days to Honor Anniversary Brookshire Grocery Co. Chairman and CEO Brad Brookshire has challenged himself to visit 90 stores in 90 days in honor of the company’s 90th anniversary. He made the announcement on March 1, a significant day because it was company founder W.T. Brookshire’s birthday. As of April 18, Brad had visited 48 of the stores in his challenge.
