Hannah Lebensburger

At just 2 years old, Hannah Lebensburger was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

“I have always been aware of mental health, and the problems that arise without access to proper care,” Lebensburger said.

Her personal experience coupled with stories from her dad, a pediatric hematologist, about the distances his patients traveled for care led to a curiosity about the availability of children’s mental healthcare. In search of an answer, Lebensburger sought the help of a psychologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“She discussed how no one acknowledges the lack of providers throughout the state and that we need data to prove what we all assumed to be a major problem,” Lebensburger said. “This is where my project began.”

According to Lebensburger, she reached out to each board certified psychologist with two questions: Do you accept pediatric patients, and do you accept Medicaid? After completion, Lebensburger submitted her project to the American Society of Hematology, which according to the organization’s website is “the world’s largest professional society of clinicians and scientists who are dedicated to conquering blood diseases.”

Out of a plethora of submissions, Lebensburger was one of the selected to orally present her project at the American

In addition to that honor, she held several leadership positions including, Student Government Association senior class vice president, one of the captains of the tennis team and President of Jewish Student Union. She also tutored underprivileged kids through STAIR of Birmingham and participated in the C. Kyser Miree/Ethical Leadership Center at The Altamont School.

At the Miree Center, Lebensburger and a friend worked alongside Smile-A-Mile, a Birmingham-based organization, which “helps those in Alabama who are affected

by childhood cancer thrive during treatment and the years beyond,” according to its website. As part of that mission, they put on several summer camps.

“Presenting my project was one of my favorite memories at Altamont because it allowed me not only to share the work I did to help the community, but also brought awareness to the effects of childhood cancer and the work Smile-A-Mile does to help support families on their journey,” Lebensburger said.

After graduation, Lebensburger will attend Emory University to study psychology on the pre-med track.

Cougars • 1,361 students • Ranked the 24th best school for athletes in Alabama

Dear class of 2025,

As I reflect on this remarkable school year, I am overwhelmed with pride and gratitude. The class of 2025 has demonstrated strength, unity, and excellence in ways that have truly elevated the legacy of Clay-Chalkville High School.

This year, we celebrated several accomplishments that reflect the heart of who we are-not just as a school, but as a family. Our students achieved significant academic growth, and we saw record numbers of seniors earning college acceptances, scholarships, and credentials that will open doors for years to come. We’re especially proud of our ACT growth, our dual enrollment participation, and the increase in students pursuing career tech certifications and

workforce readiness programs. You’ve made it clear: Cougar Nation is filled with bright minds and bold spirits. Our athletic teams continued to showcase excellence, with standout performances across multiple sports. Our fine arts department also soared this year, reminding us that creativity and passion are powerful forms of leadership. Whether on the field, the stage, or in the classroom, you have represented Clay-Chalkville with integrity and pride.

This class has also embraced servant leadership. Through volunteer work, peer mentoring, and student-led initiatives, you’ve made an impact that reaches far beyond our campus. The character you’ve shown reminds us that greatness isn’t just measured by accomplishments-but by how we uplift those around us.

As you prepare for the next chapter, know this: You are ready. You have overcome challenges, stayed focused, and made the most of your time here. I challenge you to carry the lessons you’ve learned forward—to lead with courage, pursue your passions relentlessly, and always remember where you came from.

It has been an honor to walk alongside you this year. On behalf of our entire staff, we are proud of you, and we believe in everything you are and everything you are becoming.

Congratulations, class of 2025. Once a Cougar, always a Cougar.

With pride,

Lillian Smiley has attended Clay-Chalkville schools since second grade, and as that chapter draws to a close, she is left feeling bittersweet. While she has loved her time at ClayChalkville and will miss it, she also looks forward with confidence for what awaits.

Of all the lessons she has learned in the past four years, one has stuck out as she has seen it play out time and again: “Your reputation precedes you.”

“I’ve seen many people passed over for amazing opportunities because of how they carry themselves,” Smiley said. “Your reputation has made an impression on someone else regardless of if you’ve met them or not.”

Lillian Smiley

As for Smiley’s reputation, in addition to being a diligent student, she spent her senior year as Captain of the Cougarettes Danceline, Vice President of the National Honor Society and a school ambassador as well as a member of Key Club and DECA.

“These activities have shaped and prepared me for life after graduation because I have learned leadership, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills,” Smiley said.

One of those activities also led to her favorite memory

from high school. During her junior year, Smiley had the opportunity to dance at Bryant-Denny Stadium in support of the football team that won the state championship.

“That game is something I’ll always remember,” Smiley said. Another important lesson she learned actually came directly from a classroom but not from a textbook. Mrs. Wilcox, who Smiley said creates a fun and engaging learning environment, teaches science, but what stuck out to Smiley was not about biology, chemistry or physics.

“When you first start her class, the first lesson you learn isn’t about science but is about grit, which is a personality trait that people can develop to stay motivated to achieve their goals,” Smiley said.

As her final year draws to a close, Smiley looks back with gratitude for the time spent, skills acquired and memories made.

“I feel prepared for the real world, and I am able to thank Clay-Chalkville for that,” Smiley said.

After graduation she will be attending Tuskegee University to major in hospitality management, well-equipped with a set of tools acquired from her time at Clay-Chalkville.

Homewood High School

347 graduates

1901 S. Lakeshore Dr. • Homewood, AL 35209

Patriots • 1,330 students • Ranked the third best high school in Alabama

Dear class of 2025,

Congratulations! You have reached a monumental achievement in your lives — high school graduation! As you stand on the threshold of the future, I want to take a moment to acknowledge all the hard work, resilience, and determination that has brought you to this incredible moment. You have earned this achievement, and I couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead for each of you.

As you step into the next chapter, I encourage you to carry with you not only the knowledge you’ve gained, but also the “Attributes of the Homewood Spirit.” First, remember to respect yourself, others, and the environment. The world is a vast place, and it’s crucial that we approach it with care, kindness, and understanding. Treat yourself with the same respect you show others, and take pride in the person you’ve become. You have the power to make a positive impact on the world! Make good

choices. Life will present you with countless decisions, both big and small. When faced with a tough choice, pause and reflect. Ask yourself, “Will this bring out the best in me?” and “Will this help those around me?” You are in control of your actions, and those actions will shape your path forward.

Celebrate uniqueness and embrace the diverse world we live in. Each of you brings something special to the table — your talents, perspectives, and experiences. Celebrate these qualities in yourself, and take pride in the uniqueness of others. Our differences make us stronger, so never underestimate the value of being yourself.

Words matter — and the way you speak to others, and even to yourself, can have lasting effects. In moments of doubt or excitement, remember to think before you speak. Your words have power, and they can either build up or tear down. Choose them wisely! Lastly, seek ways to serve others and give back to the community

around you. Service to others is one of the most fulfilling paths you can take, and it creates a ripple effect that spreads positivity and goodwill.

Whether it’s through small acts of kindness or larger efforts to help those in need, service is a reflection of your character and integrity. Most importantly, always strive to be your personal best. You don’t need to compare yourself to others.

Your journey is unique, and your progress is yours alone. Keep pushing forward, stay curious, and never stop growing.

Once again, congratulations to each and every one of you. I’m proud of what you’ve accomplished, and I’m excited to see where your journey will take you next. The world is yours — go out there and make it a better place! Go Patriots!

It only takes one light to ignite a culture of reformation in the world. That light first flickers in the hearts of young people who desire to make a difference in their communities, but it only grows when it is shared.

Homewood High School senior Ruby Reeves’ flame is burning brightly, and she credits her time at Homewood and her former educators for opening her eyes to the power she has as a student with a servant’s heart.

“[My teachers] have helped me succeed in high school, and I owe them so much,” Reeves said. “I am very thankful for the opportunities that Homewood has made possible.”

As vice president of the Spanish Club, Reeves was first challenged by her teacher, Mrs. Parker, to not only learn a new

Ruby Reeves

language, but also appreciate the people who speak it and how beautiful other cultures are.

“She really pushed me hard to learn Spanish and gave me the tools to talk to many different people,” Reeves said of Parker.

“In the two years I had her as my teacher, I went from scared to have a basic conversation about the weather in Spanish to eager and able to discuss really complex ideas.”

Helping students overcome their fears, breaking down cultural barriers, are some of the best classroom experiences Parker ever provided for her pupils, according to Reeves. She now hopes her future career will be one that bridges the

gap between different people groups, enabling local communities to be more welcoming and inviting to people of all different backgrounds.

This desire only grew when she traveled to Ireland with the Homewood High School Patriot Marching Band in March 2024. Reeves, who plays both the saxophone and oboe, got to perform in two different St. Patrick’s Day parades in Dublin and Celbridge, and she believes interacting with locals and learning their way of life helped her appreciate the similarities between American and Irish cultures–namely, both groups’ boisterous love for celebrating their history.

“Being in the band was a

great experience for me because it allowed me to meet so many different people,” she said, later adding, “[it] also allowed me to see the world.”

Post-graduation in May, Reeves plans to attend the University of Notre Dame, majoring in political science and Arabic with a minor in Spanish. Although uncertain of what career path she will one day pursue, she knows her strengths lie in fostering relationships, uniting people over their shared humanity.

While she will miss seeing her teachers and peers every day, she will never forget those relationships that spurred her call to action. Looking forward, she plans to invest into others by sharing her light, inspiring them to dream big—just as Homewood did for her.

Dear class of 2025,

As your time at Hoover High School comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared and the legacy you leave behind. Each graduating class is special in its own way—but you, the class of 2025, have left an enduring mark on our school community.

One of Hoover High’s greatest strengths is our diversity. It has been powerful to watch you learn from one another, build lasting friendships, and work together across differences to create something stronger than any one person could do alone. You have shown us what

it means to lead with openness, curiosity, and respect.

Thank you for the memories, the energy, and the example you’ve set. From championship wins and creative performances to quiet acts of kindness and moments of resilience, you’ve shown us what it means to be Buccaneers in both spirit and character. Your time here has shaped our school for the better.

As you step into the next chapter— whether it’s college, career, military service, or a path uniquely your own—I encourage you to carry with you the values that have guided you here: respect, responsibility, and integrity. Let those principles be

more than words you’ve heard at school; let them be the foundation on which you build a meaningful life.

The road ahead will bring both opportunities and challenges, but I am confident that you are ready. I believe in you and know that you are prepared not only with knowledge, but with heart. Wherever life takes you, lead with character, serve others well, and continue to make us proud.

Once a Buc, Always a Buc!

With pride and gratitude,

Far and few between are young dreamers who possess not only self-discipline and perseverance, but also humility and appreciation for those who help carve their paths. Hoover High School senior Tyson Batchelor is among those rarities–a true gem of his generation.

Not a day past turning 17, Batchelor enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard, citing a call from the Lord leading him during his junior year.

“My goal was to be able to finish all of my active duty training in time to walk across the stage with my senior class on graduation day and start college with my friends and peers in the fall,” he said. “In order to accomplish this, I had to complete all my graduation requirements by the end of the summer before senior year, so I could leave for basic combat training in September.”

Albeit a rather unconven-

Tyson Batchelor

tional route, he made the difficult decision to give up playing football during his senior year at Hoover to go to training, and yet, he maintains it has all been worth it. He spent 10 weeks training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, and upon his graduation, he shipped out to Fort Eustis in Virginia to complete his advanced individual training as a Black Hawk helicopter mechanic.

After graduating from AIT on May 8, Batchelor said he prioritized spending the remaining weeks of the school year with his classmates, enjoying their company and looking forward to his high school graduation later that month. Being recognized as Hoover’s senior spotlight, he said, was truly an honor, but there are so many other students who are worthy of recognition as well.

“Attending a large, diverse high school where so many students have stories of overcoming challenges and achiev-

ing personal success makes this recognition even more meaningful,” he said. “I know that countless classmates are equally deserving, and I’m grateful that my teachers saw something in my journey to highlight.”

According to him, a large part of his success has been sowed by his teachers and coaches, especially during his years playing football.

“My experience in the football program at Hoover was definitely a tool that helped shape me into a better person,” he said. “The intensity of the program taught me discipline and how to overcome adversity. I developed a ‘never quit’ mentality, physical stamina and leadership skills that served me tremendously in my military training.”

During basic training, Batchelor rose to the rank of platoon leader out of a company of more than 200 soldiers, graduating the program as the

distinguished honor graduate. He also graduated AIT as the distinguished honor graduate out of his entire class.

He credits the Lord’s favor and blessing on his life, as well as his teachers and coaches at Hoover, for helping him on his journey.

“The support I received at Hoover from teachers, faculty and friends has given me the self-confidence to continue to step out and do hard things to be a success now, in college and in my future endeavors,” he said.

This fall, Batchelor will attend Auburn University, majoring in industrial engineering. He plans to join Auburn’s ROTC program his sophomore year.

While he is excited for the future, he will never forget the people who helped turn his dreams into reality. For them, he will always proudly don the orange and black–a Hoover Buc till the end.

Faith, family and fortitude–this threelegged mantra guides Nathaniel Rohling’s decision-making, as he strives to live his life glorifying God every day. The John Carroll Catholic High School senior is a proud member of the Cavaliers’ class of 2025, and he maintains that any success he has achieved is thanks to the Lord and his school’s community.

“John Carroll has given me a firm foundation for my life, not just academically, but also spiritually, allowing me to grow both in mind and soul,” Rohling said.

Boasting a plethora of accolades, his resume sports several leadership roles

Nathaniel Rohling

such as captaining the Science Olympiad Team, which recently placed 10th in the state competition. One of his favorite roles is volunteering as an altar server at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and John Carroll’s masses.

A firm believer in community, he also referees local soccer games, including rec U9/U10, running the line on U19 MLS Next matches and more, in order to invest into younger student-athletes. These leadership opportunities, he believes, have helped him learn the meaning of family and the blessing of relationships.

Perhaps most curiously, he said one of the toughest disciplines he has learned from school is how to persevere academically. This self-fortitude is garnered over time as one strives to work out problems, again and again, until he masters the learning material.

“My academic classes have challenged me to think differently and through that, I have learned much about myself,” Rohling said. “Through our theology classes and other religious opportunities, I have grown in my love of God to better understand who He is and who He wants me to be.”

He explains while John Carroll is quite

an academically rigorous school, all of his teachers encouraged him to succeed. He credits Drs. Lagrone and Chandler, as well as Mr. Michael, for their support of him and their making learning exciting.

“These three teachers and many others have guided me to achieve my best in everything,” he said. “I hope one day I will have the opportunity to inspire others to learn the same way [they] have inspired me.”

Between John Carroll’s encouraging his faith, strengthening his family ties and developing his fortitude, Rohling believes he is best prepared to tackle any challenge life throws post-graduation in May.

“I will miss the Catholic and friendly environment at John Carroll,” he said. “At John Carroll, just about everyone knows everyone. We also have weekly mass, monthly confessions during school and an always open chapel. There will probably never be another time I will be able to visit Christ so frequently.”

This fall, he plans to attend Auburn University to study computer engineering. No matter what he chooses to do, however, he plans to emulate the principles he has learned at John Carroll, pointing others to the Lord on his journey.

Moody High School

148 graduates

714 High School Dr. • Moody, AL 35004 Blue Devils • 687 students • Ranked the 64th best high school in Alabama

Dear class of 2025,

First and foremost, congratulations to each graduating student at Moody High School. This is a tremendous milestone that is only the beginning of the journey that each of you will undertake. As a school, we want to thank you for all that you have done not only to help Moody High School, but also the entire Moody community move forward in academics, athletics, and extracurriculars.

When I reflect on the class of 2025, this class of students has been about spreading the Moody brand throughout the world. Your events were seen all over the country and as far as New Zealand with an average of 11,000 views at events. You were able to showcase the immense talents that our students have on a global scale. But, bigger than that, a 411 standard was set for future generations as students at the other Moody schools regularly attended events

and supported our students because they got to see firsthand what it means to be a Moody Blue Devil. The class of 2025 helped build these standards as students and role models for future Blue Devils. That is what I will remember most about this class.

My prayer for each graduate is that you are always that role model and hero that a 6-year-old sees and that you continue showing future Moody Blue Devils what you can achieve when you graduate from Moody High School. As you move forward in life, I do encourage you to remember the words of Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Remember that using words like average, common, and ordinary are realistic and achievable. The word and idea of excellence is always difficult to achieve which is why most people do not do it. But it is worth trying to achieve excellence, and you are now capable of it.

As you move forward when you encoun-

ter an obstacle in life, remember that you have the knowledge and skills to overcome it and be excellent because you were created ON purpose FOR a purpose that only you can fulfill. These will be key in helping you to continue to be successful in reaching your life goals.

On behalf of the Moody faculty and Moody community, I cannot begin to thank you enough for all that you have done for Moody High School to raise the standard that is the new measuring point for all students and organizations in our school. We cannot wait to see what your success in the future brings to our community and show the world what Moody High School graduates can do! Thank you, and again, congratulations to the Moody High School Class of 2025.

One day each year, students at Moody High School compete with their class in one of Homecoming Week’s most competitive events: Color Wars. From tugof-war and musical chairs to a hot sauce drinking competition and food drive, each class earns points. Last year Bella Vincent was part of the second-ever junior class to win, and they went back-to-back with another win this year.

Moments like these have stuck with Vincent, who has attended Moody since kindergarten, as she reflected on her time here.

For 13 years Vincent has attended Moody Schools and made every effort to get involved. During her senior year, she has served as a varsity cheerleader, senior class president, Student Council Association secretary, Moody Area Chamber of Commerce ambassador and participated in a variety of other organizations.

“I truly believe high school would not have been as great as it has been if I had not gotten involved,” Vincent said. “Being a part of a team and contributing to

Bella Vincent

the community really enhances the whole high school experience.”

Beyond relationships Vincent said her involvement has taught her lessons beyond the classroom and given her responsibilities to ensure her readiness for college and then a career.

“Moody has not only prepared me academically but also socially. I have learned

how to conduct a proper interview, work with others on a team, and I have been taught to be punctual and dependable,” Vincent said.

Between all her classes and extracurriculars, Vincent has had many teachers help with those lessons. Out of all of them, she is particularly grateful for her government teacher and cheer coach, Jill Wiley.

“Mrs. Wiley goes to great lengths, not just for me, but for my class to make sure we have the best high school experience,” Vincent said. “She demonstrates where dedication and hard work can lead you, and I truly look up to her in many ways.”

After all this time at Moody schools, Vincent will venture a few miles southwest to attend Samford University in the fall, but she will not forget the community she said “feels like a family.”

“I love Moody High School with my whole heart, and I am truly thankful to the administration and teachers for making my high school career one that I will always cherish,” Vincent said.

Spain Park High School

347 graduates

4700 Jaguar Dr. • Birmingham, AL 35242 • Jaguars • 1,503 students

Ranked the seventh best high school in Alabama and the No. 1 high school in Shelby County

Dear class of 2025,

I have taken every opportunity that I could find over the last three years to remind each of you what our goals are for you as a student at Spain Park: For you to be safe, comfortable, and ready to learn so that you can grow, learn, and succeed AT and AFTER Spain Park. Each of you achieved your own unique successes at Spain Park and reached the ultimate goal of graduation. Congratulations! Your diploma will open doors and serve as a ticket to what’s next and will set you up for success AFTER Spain Park.

It is my hope that, in addition to all of the information and standards you learned in class and through all of the hard work, tests, projects, victories, defeats, and events, each of you have had fun and made memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you

for your hard work, ideas, leadership, and for all of the memories that you have given all of us at Spain Park.

I am so very thankful and proud to be your principal. It is bittersweet that I won’t get to see each of you in the hallways, on the field, in classrooms, or the lunchroom anymore. I am going to miss each of you. But, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other wings.” Your roots are as a Spain Park Jag. It is time to spread your wings and do BIG things! Thank you, class of 2025, and congratulations! Go Jags! Love,

Spain Park High School

Sasha Popova has made herself a key part of Spain Park High School over the course of her high school career. However, she was not always a part of the Hoover community.

Popova is a native of Ukraine and came over to the United States when she was in fourth grade. She had to adjust to starting elementary school in Texas, which has a much more different teaching style than she had in eastern Europe.

However, that adjustment was nothing like moving across state lines to start her high school career. She had to completely start over socially, but looking back, she is glad to have many strong friendships and the formative experiences they brought.

“The high school transition was more of a drastic transition for me because I was moving from Texas to Alabama, so I didn’t know what to expect or how to become friends with new people because I haven’t done that since fourth grade,” Popova said. “So, it was kind of hard for me to make friends at first, but now I’m more than grateful for my parents allowing me to move with them to Alabama because that has opened so many new things for me and new friendships and opportunities for me to grow in and to finally find out who I am.”

A big way that Popova adjusted was by getting involved with many different clubs. She joined the art club and eventually became the president of it during her senior

year. Popova also received a scholarship from the Bluff Park Art Alliance for her talents.

Sasha Popova

She also joined the tennis team and is an ambassador for SPHS, helping give tours to new students like she was by showing them all the great things about life at Spain Park.

Popova also serves as the SGA chaplain and leads the school in the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence every morning.

She says that these opportunities helped her make friends quickly and adjust to a new community.

“Having all these things for new students to be involved in what they’re talented in and what they enjoy doing in their free time like sports and just extracurriculars that are hosted by Spain Park really helped me to find friends that have common interests and things they like with me,” Popova said.

Most of her friends are from SGA or art club, and she is grateful that her clubs helped her meet them. She said that activities have helped a bigger school like Spain Park feel smaller.

“Being the chaplain has led me to be drastically more involved in SGA, which has

brought me all of my friends,” Popova said. “Since Spain Park is a semibig school, we have so many different people from so many different backgrounds, and I love getting to know new people and

finding new friends, and I feel like in Texas, if I stayed in my high school that I was zoned for there, I wouldn’t have had that because that high school didn’t have as many things to do and things to be involved in like Spain Park.”

Popova also adjusted quickly in the classroom and is grateful to the many teachers who helped her along her journey. She says she will miss the faculty the most since they fostered growth within her over the course of their time together.

“The teachers are so talented and they know exactly what to do in their classes and I feel like I’ve learned so much in all of the classes that I’ve been taking, especially my AP classes,” Popova said. “I’ll miss my AP Physics teacher, my government teacher, all of the teachers that have brought so much warmth to my heart by teaching me so many new things and making me grow.”

She is particularly grateful to Mrs. Wallace and Mr. Parker for the very different ways that they helped her develop as a person.

“(Mrs. Wallace has) really taught me on how to be kind and look at things more optimistically. She always has a smile on her face, and she’s just always laughing and bringing people up,” Popova said. “However, Mr. Parker is also very kind. He’s a Christian man, but he’s also really stern, which has made me more organized and it’s made me be more of an academic person and being more motivated and getting all my things done.”

Now, Popova prepares to go to Auburn University as a pre-architecture student, but she is grateful for her four years at Spain Park.

Looking back on her journey, she hopes that others can follow in her footsteps by putting themselves out there to try new experiences and make new friends. She said doing that has led to many unforgettable memories that she will take with her to college.

“Always say yes to trying new things,” Popova said. “All the memories and all the fun times that I look back and think about during my high school career have always been hanging out with my friends, going to random school events like the theater plays or choir shows and just always go to all the football games and just being really involved in school so you can build so many memories and so many new friendships.”

Hewitt-Trussville High School

403 graduates

6450 Husky Pkwy. • Trussville, AL 35173

Huskies • 1,573 students • Ranked the eighth best high school in Alabama

Dear class of 2025,

Congratulations. You did it! As I look out at each of you, I see more than students; I see leaders, scholars, athletes and artists. I see young men and women who met the challenge of these four years with courage and determination. You have endured trials, shown resilience and grown into a class that has left its mark on Hewitt-Trussville High School.

Academically, you have pursued excellence with integrity. Your achievements in the classroom, whether mastering calculus, composing essays that revealed depth of thought or engaging in meaningful scientific research, have raised the bar for future Huskies. Many of you will continue your studies at universities across the state and nation, and I am confident you are prepared to lead.

In athletics, you have competed with grit, passion and class. Whether on the field, the court or the track, you represented our

school with honor. Your victories were hard-earned, and your defeats carried lessons that forged character. You showed us what discipline, teamwork and perseverance truly mean.

In the arts, your creativity inspired us all. From stunning performances on the stage to the breathtaking visual pieces and stirring musical compositions, you’ve reminded us that beauty, emotion and expression matter deeply in this world. You’ve touched our hearts and elevated our spirits.

Class of 2025, you are the story of this school’s present and the promise of its future. Go forward with humility and confidence. Keep working hard. Keep striving for truth and goodness. Above all, never forget you’ll always be a part of the Husky family.

With pride and gratitude,

Hewitt-Trussville

Sally DeShazo has attended Trussville City Schools since kindergarten. As that 13-year-long chapter draws to a close, she looks back with fondness for the friends met, lessons learned and memories made.

“I’ve had such a good opportunity to learn in a positive, safe environment with teachers that truly care about me,” DeShazo said. “I feel prepared to go to college in a few months.”

She acknowledged that preparation came with challenges along the way, both academically and extracurricular, which have made her stronger.

“My teachers, friends and family have always encouraged me to aim higher and work hard to achieve my goals,” DeShazo said. “This has allowed me to feel supported and have the confidence to try new things and has set me up for success.”

In particular, DeShazo credits two of her teachers, Mrs. Amber Benson and Mrs. Jill Greene, for their influence in pushing her to reach new potential.

“They have given me the opportunity to be creative and learn by challenging me to take on various projects,” DeShazo said. “They have believed in me, encouraged

Sally DeShazo

me and helped me become a better leader and person.”

Other opportunities she has taken advantage of include the Leadership Hewitt-Trussville class, being a Peer Partner and serving as Student Council Association President. DeShazo said the Leadership Hewitt-Trussville taught her real-world skills and how the community works while her time as a Peer Partner, who aids exceptional ed students at HTHS,

allowed her to attend many fun events, including the Special Olympics, Monster Mash and the Luau.

“This was a super rewarding experience, and I’m thankful for the many friendships I made,” DeShazo said of being a Peer Partner.

The SCA President credited SCA in honing her leadership, teamwork and organizational skills while also giving her the opportunity to work alongside faculty and plan many events. DeShazo said one of those, the Family Feud event, where they raised $4,500 for the Big Oak Ranch, is her favorite memory from the past four years.

“Our SCA team built this event from the ground up,” DeShazo said. “We spent countless hours discussing and organizing the event’s dynamic, and to see it come to life and be such a success was such a full-circle moment for me. It felt like all of our hard work paid off, and I think students enjoyed it a lot.”

DeShazo packed a lot into her time in Trussville, but she does not appear to be slowing down. After graduation, she will head to Auburn University and plans to attend law school after undergrad.

Vestavia Hills High School

511 graduates

2235 Lime Rock Rd. • Vestavia Hills, AL 35216

Rebels • 1,578 students • Ranked the fifth best high school in Alabama

Dear class of 2025,

As I reflect on this incredible year, I find myself in awe of the spirited, intelligent, humorous, compassionate, creative, and talented individuals that make up your senior class. You have not only brought life and energy to the halls of Vestavia Hills High School, but you have also set a standard of leadership, character, and community that inspires us all.

It is with immense pride that I celebrate you as my very first graduating class as principal of VHHS. You have represented our school with dignity, enthusiasm, and excellence. Whether on the stage, on the field, in

the classroom, or serving others, you have shown what it means to be a Rebel. Yet, I want you to remember that your greatest representation of VHHS is yet to come. It lies in the lives you lead from this point forward in how you treat others with kindness, how you challenge yourselves to grow, how you pursue excellence with integrity, how you serve selflessly, and how you prioritize respect for yourself and others. My hope for you is that the values you carry with you reflect the legacy you leave behind. Every day, I remind you, “Today has the potential to be amazing, but it will be exactly what you choose for it to be, so be kind to yourself and others, live with intent and

purpose, and don’t forget to laugh along the way.” That message, I hope, will echo in your hearts long after you leave VHHS. Carry it with you into the world as a guide for the exciting journey ahead.

Class of 2025, thank you for being extraordinary. Thank you for your laughter, your leadership, your resilience, and your unwavering spirit. You are ready to take on the world, and we are ready to cheer you on every step of the way. Go Rebels!

With pride and admiration,

The strength in community is evident in the ties that bind each other together. For Vestavia Hills High School senior Ishaan Garg, the word, community, is the best way to describe the catalyst on his journey of self-discovery, and more importantly, the role he serves in fostering such fellowship in his own life.

Six years ago, Ishaan moved from Pennsylvania to Alabama–a drastic change for a young student navigating adolescence. Although times seemed troubling, Garg began developing friendships and honing in on his talents after his peers first began investing into him.

“It has been a very warm and welcoming transition from my move from the North,” Garg said. “Vestavia gave me the platform to build friendships through sports, academics, social events and even competitions. It has helped me grow by respecting different perspectives and being more receptive.”

Slowly, he started joining extracurriculars including the math team and chem club. He also became involved with the Science Olympiad Team, the soccer team and the cross country team as well.

Ishaan Garg

Teachers such as Todd Taylor recognized Garg’s passion early-on and began challenging him to level-up not just as a student, but also as a leader.

“These past years, I have grown the most under his guidance,” Garg said of Taylor. “He always encouraged asking questions and motivated me to work harder with a competitive spirit. I truly admire his love for teaching, ability to explain problems very clearly and mak-

Hills High School

ing learning new concepts interesting.”

Just as he became involved in different facets of his school community, Garg began realizing how he, too, could give back to the community, starting with mentoring younger students. Having played soccer both competitively and on a recreational team, he started refereeing soccer games on the weekends and has grown to love building relationships with younger students.

He took his passion for investing into others a step further and now volunteers at Children’s Hospital, too. Because so many believed in his ability to succeed, Garg said he wants to reciprocate that same love and enthusiasm for generations of wavemakers behind him.

Now graduating in May, Garg said he does not yet know what college he plans to attend; however, he does know he wants to study math and financial markets with a goal of becoming a quantitative analyst in the future. Despite not knowing every answer, with the Vestavia Hills community in his corner, he knows he will hurdle over every challenge with flying colors.
