The satisfying click of the camera shutter fills the air as our board members pose for their very own SHEI ID. Bangles clatter, earrings jangle, skin glistens and the intoxicating scents of perfume intimately dance within the nostrils of the reader as we welcome one and all to a new year, a new board, and a new era of SHEI Magazine.

After four years of working within SHEI Magazine, joyously type out an introduction to the University of Michigan’s premiere fashion, arts and culture magazine. am ecstatic to present the gorgeous talent before you, as this new chapter calls for anticipation and excitement. This moment is also bittersweet, as it indicates my own final journey within this publication.

Almost four years ago, nervously submitted my application to SHEI’s digital fashion team with nothing but misplaced optimism and a Google Slide exploring an extraterrestrialfocused photoshoot. A week later, strutted to my fashion team interview in a vintage, thrifted blue Ralph Lauren sweater, baggy slacks, and a knockoff Vivienne Westwood necklace. Unsure of anything regarding the fashion industry, this outfit was a perfect depiction of the creative I was then; filled with potential, but lacking the fleshed-out vision and artistry needed to make something extraordinary. As I sipped my Vertex Coffee Roasters mocha, two fashion editors gracefully glided through interview questions and conversation, challenging my abilities to think quickly on my feet and find my own voice as an artist. A few days later, I scrolled through my email and there it was. An acceptance into SHEI Magazine as a digital fashion team member, and a new opportunity to explore what could become in both the fashion industry and within the legacy of SHEI.

As the years went on, worked as digital shoot director, print fashion editor, and creative director, which all eventually led to my current role as editor-in-chief. This journey was unorthodox to say the least, as my service in multiple roles came at unexpected moments, and through last-minute opportunity, leading to doubt and a lingering voice in my head telling me I wasn’t good enough. The painful stabs of pessimism and self-deprecation only hindered me as an artist, and through SHEI, I was taught how to overcome this inner saboteur. learned the importance of flexibility, the power of a strong team surrounding you, and the necessity of trust and confidence in oneself to truly succeed as a creative. came into SHEI lost and unsure of what I even wanted to do with my life, and I now find myself leaving with the tools, knowledge, experience and desire to enter the professional fashion industry upon graduation.

A little over a month ago, sprawled across SHEI’s purple couch at the start of my work as editor-in-chief, I perused through past SHEI magazine editions, looking in awe and admiration at the creativity that our 26-year-old publication has produced since our founding in 1999. look back at the creations of my past editors, mentors and leaders, and can only hope to one day leave future EICs the same gift of freshly printed magazines of my own creation that push creative boundaries and expectations as SHEI has become known to do. Guiding my final days is the notion that SHEI’s legacy and creativity are our strongest assets, and I continue to ask myself what I can do to make my own impact on our remarkable history.

Without further ado am honored to introduce our first issue of the 2025-2026 publication year. I am continuously blown away by the talent, dedication and intellect of SHEI’s incredibly gifted board. Just as the shutter clicks to capture this new beginning, it also captures my own moments of transformation and evolution. As wave goodbye to my time with SHEI, I’m reminded of the lost student I once was and the creative I’ve grown into. Both are forever etched into the pages of SHEI Magazine.
