It's an honour to be writing in the programme for the first home game of the 2023 season, and my first home game as the Head Coach of the Sheffield Giants.
It’s been a strange few weeks but we’ve had an excellent pre-season and are starting to find our feet as a team. There’s a great energy around the place and I’ve loved seeing people playing football with a smile.
I’d like to welcome the Nottingham Caesars to Sheffield and look forward to giving them a great game, whilst we put on a show for our fans.

Following the abandonment of their first game against the Northant Knights, the Sheffield Giants restarted their season with a trip to Nottingham for a highly anticipated game against the Nottingham Caesars.
Nottingham started the afternoon by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. However, a failed two point attempt left the score at 6-0.
The Giants offence was well challenged by Nottingham’s defence who forced three punts in the first half. Barron Abrahams punted for 92 total yards throughout the game. This, along with his 65 total yards of offence, earned Abrahams Offensive Player of The Week.
Sheffield came out fighting in the second half by forcing the Caesars to punt the ball away for most of the third quarter. The defensive line were a constant pest in the Nottingham backfield. Together they recorded 5 sacks along with multiple quarterback hits and pressures.
Defensive Player of The Game Jacob
Eansworth led the Giants aerial defence which included a fourth quarter interception by Will Robertson.
The Giants finished the game with an 80 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Cruelly, a penalty flag wiped those 6 points off the board, leaving the final score 38-0.
The Sheffield Giants host the Nottingham Caesars on Sunday May 7th at the Norton Sports Park, Sheffield.

The Sheffield Giants American Football Academy has a place for everyone to enjoy the sport; from age 7 to 19, any gender, any size, and any ability.
The Academy offers both contact and non-contact versions of the sport in inclusive, supportive, and most importantly fun teams. All of these are run by experienced and committed coaches every Saturday morning at our Mosborough Training Ground (S20 5AQ).
The Sheffield Giants Adult Flag teams allow adults to play non-contact football in Sheffield. There’s no previous experience or talent required to join the Women’s or Mixed teams, who compete in tournaments / leagues against teams based all across the UK.
The Giants Mixed Flag Team has already begun their preparations for the 2023 season, training every Sunday at Hillsborough College, but it’s not too late to get involved. The Giants Women’s Flag Team begins their training later in the year and practices at the Mosborough Training Ground.
