emperament and ease of handling

is a vital attribute in any animal breed. Poor temperament can be learnt through mismanagement. The cattle industry have developed di erent systems to score for temperament. SheepMaster™ is assessing all research into temperament and we will shortly announce our method for scoring this trait. The haired and shedding sheep industry in Australia has been criticised for poor temperament by competitors. I believe that shedding sheep require di erent handling to traditional breeds. They have a greater desire to live, thrive and maintain close, family orientated groups. This results in a stay at home animal with minimal stress on fencing and highly protective mothers. SheepMaster animals are highly intuitive, responsive to quiet, gentle handling, soft voice tone and de nitely no dogs in stock yards. In particular, they do not like to be in an area by themselves and most poor behaviour is a result of being isolated from their mates. SheepMaster selects for these positive management traits.

We welcome feedback & discussion re temperament and ease of handling
