Shedding Sheep Australia (SSA) Road Show March-April ‘22
Neil Garnett is travelling through South Australia, NSW and Queensland from 14th March to attend the Open Days above. He will be accompanied by Andrew Hodgson, as Elders are the national agent for SheepMaster™. The primary focus of the tour is to meet shedding sheep breeders and key industry people, to better understand the likely development of this rapidly expanding industry. The trip will extend through Victoria, into Western and Eastern NSW and Queensland, to Longreach. There will be displays and talks at various studs throughout the trip. The entire Stud ock was DNA tested and scored over the last fortnight, a major undertaking. Results include ASBVs and parent veri cation. Mike Kirke of Rural Data Management will do a comparative analysis of the data with the Garnett Scoring System (GSS). The GSS is based on the visual scoring system developed by Neil at Collinsville Merino Stud, where he achieved the world record price of $450,00 for a Sire in 1989. He adapted the same principles to breed the wool-less, 100% shedding sheep we see in Apollo (above left) today, focusing on feet, con rmation, constitution and fertility.
SheepMaster Accreditation & Certi cation We are rolling out a certi cation system for Accredited SheepMaster Breeders [ASB’s} across Australia and New Zealand. Andrew and Neil will be the sole certi ers at this stage, to develop continuity across all studs with membership by invitation, to like-minded breeders who are prepared to operate within SheepMaster™ guidelines. SSA will offer service and support in all aspects of management, marketing, accreditation, certi cation consulting, data management etc A National database of all certi ed stud ewes and rams will be developed for quality control. We believe Genomics and data information will add substantial value to our Accredited and Certi ed SheepMaster Stud animals, with ow through to all commercial operations.
