ON CAMPUS FIELDTRIP

Build A Park Activity: Through a Teen’s Eyes By Deja Tenese Vaughn I decided to take action and look into the eyes of a teenager and see how building a National Park would entertain someone who is older. I took the liberty of interviewing 10-year-old Paola Arriaza of the older girls group.

I asked her if she can tell me about her experience today.

She told me that her group and herself had to build a national park. She also explained that she loves to do it every year and that they were separated into groups.

Paola adds, “I had so much fun!”

Q: Are you happy with your project?

A: Yes because they all wanted different things but they came together in the end.

Q: How did you come up with the name for her park?

A: It was a marine based park her group chose to call it Waterday National Park.

Q: Did you have any troubles coming up with the type of park that you wanted?

A: No for the reason that they all had the same idea in their mind from the beginning.

Q: How did you manage to collaborate with four other girls?

A: Everyone tried to find a better solution and talked it out using constructive criticism in the friendliest way possible.

Q: What were the pros and cons of creating a national park?

A: The pros were experience, ownership, and teamwork.

The cons on the other hand were responsibility and readiness.

PARK RANGER INTERVIEW Interview by Wayneisha Samuel W: Hello. I’m Wayneisha; may I ask you a few questions, Park Ranger Maria?

PRM: Sure.

W: What made you become a park ranger?

PRM: Destiny.

W: Did you have to go through any special training to become a ranger?

PRM: Yes, I went to school and studied natural sciences.

W: To become a ranger do you need any sort of degree?

PRM: Yes, at least a Bachelors degree in a related field.

For example, some rangers study biology.

W: Thank you for answering my questions, Park Ranger Maria.

PRM: No, thank you it was a great pleasure.

Why was the cow playing the tuba?

He wanted to be a moo-sician.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT SUMMER CAMP

Chocolate Milk For the Campers' Soul by Adia Saliha Crespo BOOM!! Week one has ended!! How do you ladies feel?!? I don't know about you but I'm feeling AWESOME!!! Great first week. Thank you parents/guardians and campers for sticking it through! I'm not going to lie, we had our ups and downs, but through the dances, the hard work and the swimming we made it through. This is nothing like school and that's what makes it so fun for all our beautiful young ladies we have here at camp. Everyday at 8:00 in the morning, all I see are smiles every where.

That's how all the counselors know we are not only doing our jobs but achieving our goals. This summer we are all lucky to have this group of ladies. Get ready for alot more excitement and field trips!
