More Than a Color By Leonce Luma

Black, a color that defines me Don’t remind me the color that you claim isinside me. Unlike you I am criticized for the color that caresses my skin. You’re clearly blind to not realize the beauty that’s within me. Bear in mind deep inside we’re all the same so why do you undermine me as if I’m not worth your time. So please look back and remember the things my people have accomplished in the frame you’veunkindly bestowed upon them. Black a color that defines me, you lack the mindset to realize the strength that bares in me. So let me remind you that this color is more than a color it’s stronger than any other.

My ancestors endured the pain and suffering you’ve bestowed upon them this makes me even more proud to say that I’m Black I’m strong I’m powerful and there’s no other race like mine.

A gentleman asked me today, on my way to hide away what would you do if you weren’t afraid? I answered, "well, a good girI would rearrange life in an order that is new and pay myself the respect that is due

I would charge into battle my feet pounding to the rhythm of my one thousand horses manmy sword outstretched I would sell my cattle climb the beanstalk

to my freedom and in the clouds

I would build a kingdom where everyone is worthy

and we would

live to be forty
