ITINERARY 8:05 am to 8:35 am KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: Dr. Cheryl Maranto Associate Professor Emerita, Department of Management, Marquette University Dr. Maranto specializes in human resource management and diversity in organizations. During her time at Marquette she has served on the President’s Task Force on Gender Equity, co-chair of the Gender Equity Implementation Task Force, and co-chair of the university climate study. She was awarded Marquette’s first Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Faculty Award. Previously she served as Chair of the Department of Management, and Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration. Her research includes gender equity in higher education, wage differentials, labor relations, and employment discrimination.

Sasha J. Parsons Waters WIN Coordinator, Office of Research and Innovation, Marquette University Sasha J. Parsons Waters is a Human Resources Professional specializing in specializing in advancing women and other underrepresented groups by building leadership development programs, driving cultural change in organizations and increasing inclusion. At Marquette she established the structure for the Women’s Innovation Network (WIN) and serves on the leadership team of the Institute for Women’s Leadership (IWL). She is also Co-chair for the Women of Marquette Employee Resource Group and a member of the campus Equity and Inclusion Committee.

8:35 - 8:55 ALICE Families in Sheboygan County Kate Baer Executive Director, United Way Sheboygan County Kate received her formal nonprofit management education from Lakeland University as well as her master of arts degree in community counseling.

With a reputation as an innovative change agent and respected nonprofit leader in Sheboygan County, Baer was appointed executive director of United Way of Sheboygan County in January 2020. She has vast experience in board management, grant writing, fundraising, public relations, community outreach, donor cultivation, fiscal management, and marketing.

9:05—9:25 am 9:05—9:25 am Michelle Carter Division of Employment and Training Administrator, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Prior to this role, Carter worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) for 16 years, overseeing civil rights implementation across the agency. Carter also served 23 years of enlisted and commissioned military service in the Army Reserve and National Guard, supervising a unit of 140 people.

DWD Services and Economic Recovery In this session, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Assistant Deputy Secretary Danielle Williams will discuss relief, reopening, and recovery in the wake of COVID-19. Assistant Deputy Secretary Williams will share information on services available through DWD and the Job Center of Wisconsin that may be valuable to businesses as they continue to adapt to the current economic climate.

Sam Rikkers Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation

Prior to joining WEDC in November 2019, he served as strategic economic initiatives director at the Wisconsin Department of Administration.

Sam has an extensive background in rural development, both in the U.S. and internationally. He served in the White House from 2013 to 2014 as director on the energy and environment team in the Presidential Personnel Office, then was administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Business-Cooperative Service.

Before returning to Wisconsin in 2017, he launched and led the Rural Opportunity Initiative of the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business.

A native of Stoughton, Rikkers holds a juris doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from Macalester College.

He also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zambia.
