OUT FOR LUNCH with Deidre Martinez @ Luigi’s Italian Restaurant

October is here, and that often means the days are flush with falling leaves, chilling weather, and growing anticipation for the holiday season. I believe that more than ever our heightened anticipation for a joyous holiday season is stronger than ever. It is time to look at ways that we can bring joy to others:

Manufacturing Month Virtual Tour of Krier Foods & Jolly Good Soda

10/19 - 10/23

Start thinking of ways to surprise your friends, family, co-workers or just pay forward a special something to someone you do not know. Especially now during these stressful times it seems even more important to try to be kind and thoughtful of others as we do not know what each other has been going through either personally or professionally over this past year. As I well know, we have a strong membership of amazing businesses & people. As in the past we are all “better together”, which I believe makes us all stronger together.

We have had a busy start to Fall. In September we celebrated another Chamber month and although different, we were excited to host our first drive thru brat fry. It was so wonderful to see so many faces, we miss seeing you all in person. We also hosted our annual Workforce Development Symposium virtually, with great success.

FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CONTINUED We heard from a number of folks from Marquette University, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Department of Workforce Development and United Way of Sheboygan County. It was also a great opportunity for our employers to connect with educators on ways we can support our next generation as they look to enter the workforce. Understanding the needs of employers right now, the types of roles that need to be filled and how we can also connect members of our communities that are currently underemployed with open opportunities. Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors of this year’s event and to the many participants that gave of their time and voices. The judging process will begin for our ATHENA Leadership Awards and we can’t wait to announce the winner in November. So many wonderful judges and committee members volunteering their time, treasure and talents to help us celebrate successes in Sheboygan County. Registration is open for the Athena Awards Luncheon and we have quite the celebration planned. We hope you will join in the fun, please register today! News from THE DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT As we enter the month of October, let’s stand up and give a standing ovation to the summer of 2020 weather in Sheboygan County, it was spectacular! We were truly blessed with a wonderful summer. One of the few days this summer, when the weather wasn’t sunny and warm, was the day of our golf outing! But despite the weather, we once again had a wonderful time with all our members; enjoying a day we could all get back together, play some golf, share some laughs and have some delicious food and beverages at Sheboygan’s Town and Country Club.

Scott Kuehn

Kudos to our winners this year, Katy Cain’s team took 1st Place in the Coed Division shooting a 65, and Paul Radermacher’s team, for the second consecutive year, took 1st Place in the Men’s Division shooting a 52. Congratulations to both teams, and well done! This year we had the golf ball launcher on hole #9 of the Pigeon Run course, and even though the launcher had plenty of oomph to reach the green, it was still a challenge as the wind and sometimes rain pushed every shot. I did see a couple balls hit a couple feet from the pin! Our hole sponsors did an amazing job again this year, welcoming all our golfers as they approached to tee-off and Seehafer Broadcasting was busy keeping our members busy with their putting green games. Van Horn Automotive was there with a couple primo vehicles and two colleagues who weathered the swag pop-up tent and were able to connect with all our golfers. Thank you to Prevea for providing all the lunches, which were absolutely yummy and to all our other sponsors, THANK YOU! We couldn’t do any of this without you, and for that we are truly grateful. Our members are the heart and soul of your Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce! Dates in 2021 for Business After Hours are being requested now, so don’t wait, give Carol Pringle a call at (920) 395-8706 to schedule your BAH today! Please remember to support our small businesses, restaurants, salons and many others that have been hit hard by this pandemic. They are in dire need of your business. Shop local, and stay healthy, because we are so much #BETTERTOGETHER! See you all soon!

October is Manufacturing Month There are numerous reasons to celebrate in October. October Holidays lists 190 reasons, but it omits 1 key date, October 2nd. October 2nd is Manufacturing Day. According to an Internet resource, Sheboygan has “317% more manufacturing jobs per capita than the national average.” When you add in the multiplier impact of manufacturing, there are even more reasons to celebrate because as manufacturing output grows, it requires more inputs from utilities and suppliers and creates job and investment opportunities in all the other sectors that use its products One resource, The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), says manufacturing generates $1.48 in other services and products. This is higher than any other sector. A new analysis by Inforum, an economic consulting service working out of the University of Maryland, suggests the manufacturing multiplier is much higher -- $1.92, almost doubling the base value of the manufacturing output itself. We are thankful for our manufacturers in Sheboygan County! At Sheboygan County Chamber, we celebrate our manufacturers throughout the month of October. Since COVID-19 places in-person restrictions, we have to use virtual tools to highlight our manufacturer members. On Friday, October 16th participate in a Virtual Tour of Krier Foods & Jolly Good Soda. Click HERE for more details and register today! Our Manufacturing Month will end with the Manufacturing Roundtable on October 29th from 7:15 – 9:30 AM when Operations Managers and others will convene to learn from others based on peer-to-peer concerns voiced that day. Register and learn more by clicking HERE. -John Roger, Business Roundtables Facilitator

Leadership Sheboygan County 2021 Update Leadership Sheboygan County 2021 class is well underway! Members gathered for Session II on September 17th at the beautiful Camp Y-Koda in Sheboygan Falls.
