GLOBAL TEXTILES MUSEUM 01 This hybrid building contains a textile museum featuring global artisans and an apartment block of two-story apartments to house the artisans and their families. The roof of the building conserves the sparse greenspace of downtown Chicago by acting as a raised park removed from the chaos of traffic below and offering views to Oak Street Beach. The goal of the building was to convey the diversity of different cultures while still unifying the community.

INTERWOVEN 02 Parking Day is an international event when artists and designers fill a parking stall with an interactive installation. Students were challenged with designing an installation using only recycled materials. Executed by a group of 5 students, Interwoven utilizes over 5,000 plastic bags braided and woven into frames to create comfortable, unique seating. The project was designed, built and installed over the course of only 4 weeks. The final event of Parking Day showcased the student work to the public.

This cantilevered addition to Architecture Hall offers students the ability to escape and relax through play. Students can choose to climb or lounge in the suspended net system. Program overlap creates opportunities for interesting interactions between relaxation and play.

The Candy Factory is an office building in the historic Lincoln Haymarket. Cascade is a modular installation designed to promote interaction between coworkers in the space.

Secondary Element: Skylights

In this live-work building which houses a rug shop, the rugs become the walls that divide space. A track system allows the rugs and walls to move, creating a flexible space which blurs interior and exterior. The track system dictates the shapes of the skylights above. Baffles inside the skylights bounce indirect light to illuminate the rugs on display.

This pottery retreat and dwelling echoes the process and emotions involved in making pottery. The pottery studio is of the earth and returns to the earth in an embedded lower level, which exits into the sunken courtyard. The form of the building and its relation to the estate wall create gaps in space that draw from the gaps in time during the pottery process. Each gap conveys an emotion of the tension, waiting potter: ten nsio on, anticipation, discovery, and celebration.
