SHAWNEE LIFE Cenovus employee giving and volunteering program helps maximize our collective impact

As a global energy company, we work hard to provide energy the world needs – but we don’t stop there. Cenovus Energy’s purpose extends to building a better future, and our staff and their families share our belief in the power of giving and getting involved. With our revamped employee giving and volunteering program, Cenovus Cares, we’re set to make an even bigger difference, together.

Designed to maximize our collective impact, Cenovus Cares helps support causes that are important to our employees and to Cenovus. Cenovus Cares supports employees as they:

• Donate to eligible causes, with all donations matched dollarfor-dollar up to a maximum of $25,000 per year – doubling their impact.

• Volunteer individually or as a team, gifting their time and talent and directing their volunteer rewards to their chosen causes. • Learn about how to further their impact by joining and serving on non-profit boards and committees.

• Act on additional opportunities to help increase engagement and advance awareness of a variety of critical social issues.

At Cenovus Lima Refinery, employees are embracing the program and taking advantage of the even greater impact their giving and volunteering makes.

Since the age of four, Kala Helms has been involved with the Uniopolis Browns, one of the only free cheerleading and football programs in her community. Now helping as a volunteer coach and treasurer, Kala understands the importance of giving back.

Kala, who works in supply chain management at the refinery, says the time volunteering requires is worth it.

“The feeling you get is truly priceless. From watching the kids’ faces light up as they are handed a uniform to wear for the season, to hearing their shrieks of joy when they’re told they are getting lights for the field so they can play a night game, it’s things like this that make every second of volunteering completely worth it,” said Kala.

Kala’s husband, Brandon, also works at the refinery as a process control engineer. Brandon champions the refinery’s involvement with the Lima Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts to children in need. It’s one of many volunteer efforts at the refinery, which also supports Lima City Schools’ Back to School event, United Way of Greater Lima’s Day of Caring, Equestrian Therapy Program’s Ride-A-Thon, Safety City’s Trick or Treat and Children’s Developmental Center’s annual holiday party, just to name a few.

Cenovus understands we can play a role in helping to solve some of society’s biggest challenges and mobilizing our employees’ efforts around the causes they care about is one important way we do that.
