WESTMONT – As six boys in grades one through five hold their breath, a crowd of family, friends and spectators cheer on their speeding cars until a winner and his finish time appears on a screen, all amid a showroom of BMWs. This will be the scene inside Laurel BMW of Westmont in February as Hinsdale Cub Scout Pack 10 plans to host its next Pinewood Derby inside the Westmont dealership and race their cars on a new track recently donated by the dealership. “This is exciting stuff,�

Pack 10 Cub Master Robert Rocque said. “This new track should last 30, 40 or 50 years, and to be hosting [the derby] in a place with a nice, premium brand associated with racing takes it to a whole new level.�

The Pinewood Derby is an event in which Cub Scouts partner with a parent or adult mentor to design, carve, paint, weigh, refine and race a car beginning with a block of wood, according to www.pinewood-

derby.org. Rocque said cars can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour, which is the equivalent to a normal-sized vehicle reaching more than 200 miles per hour.

Pack 10’s new track is aluminum, raised off the floor, and includes six lanes, a remote control starter, a finish line that clocks times to oneone thousandth of a second, and an approximate 4-footlong stopping area, Rocque said. It also includes software that can display the boys’ pictures, participating cars, finish times and instant replays on a screen. Although the track is new, the Scouts still will construct derby cars in the same manner.

Rocque said the pack’s previous pinewood derby track was about 20 years old and sometimes did not work. It also was made of wood, was 50 percent shorter than the new track and had only three lanes.

With a pack consisting of more than 50 boys from four area schools, it will be advantageous for enabling more boys race at one time, Rocque said.

“The boys can work on their cars from a few hours to a few weeks, so for them to be able to see their car run on a new track, since there are more lanes and it’s longer, is more exciting,� Rocque said. “The kids put in a lot of work on the cars, especially for their age.�

He also feels the new track will bring more attention to Scouting. “Being the Cub Master, I’m the gentleman that recruits boys, and having the larger track and association with BMW gets more boys into Scouting,� Rocque said. “They get excited and it’s kind of like rock star stuff. This was the objective.�

Rocque said he discussed the current state of Pack 10’s track with Pat Womack, general manager of Laurel BMW of Westmont, who also was a Cub Scout and participated in pinewood derbies, according to Charlene King of CKCommunications, spokeswoman for the dealership. Womack is also passionate about the car industry and racing.

This will be the first pinewood derby to take place at the dealership, King said, adding “and it won’t be the last.�

The process of building and testing the track will take about 30 to 40 man hours, Rocque said, and the Scouts are about halfway finished with its construction. When the day of the derby nears, the track will be disassembled in sections and reassembled in the dealership showroom, Rocque said.

Scouts from Boy Scout Troops 8 and 10 of Hinsdale will assist as race officials at the derby, which is unique since pinewood derbies do not take place at the Boy Scout level, Rocque said. Each Scout will participate in the derby race in heats for speed, and for overall original design. “Any Scout that builds a car participates,� Rocque said. “The key hallmark of Scouting is all about having fun with parents and family, and the family interaction when building and racing creates team building, leadership and the ability to solve problems together.�

With help from the community, PRC collects toys, gift cards and monetary donations for families who otherwise would go without presents.

Selected families then come to

the DuPage County Fairgrounds from Dec. 8 to 10 and choose age-appropriate gifts. Children from almost 1,000 local families will receive holiday gifts, thanks to generous donors and volunteers.

Donors are asked to drop off toys, hats and mittens, books and DVDs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

By DAN FARNHAM WESTMONT – Westmont will once again celebrate the holidays in style with its annual Holly Days.

“I think it’s very unique,” said Steve Golembiewski, Holly Days chair for the Westmont Park District. “It’s very different. People are going to look at the offerings and think this is going to be something they have to go to.”

The main event for Holly Days is the opening ceremony Nov. 29 in downtown Westmont.

The day starts at 9 a.m. with the Westmont Rotary Ugly Sweater 5K. There will be opportunities to participate in crafts and activities at local businesses throughout the day, as well as

meet some holiday characters.

The day reaches its climax with the Frosty and Friends Parade on Cass Avenue, followed by the tree lighting and visits with Santa.

Golembiewski said there are some new features to this year’s opening ceremony.

One is a feature the Park District is bringing back: ice sculpting demonstrations from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. in Mary Egan Plaza.

There also will be holiday light show presented by WJMK-FM/CBS Radio from 6:45 to 7 p.m. outside the Gregg House Museum.

Golembiewski said the lights on the trees in Veterans Park will flash in rhythm with holiday music.

Beyond the Nov. 29 celebration, there are several other holiday-themed events going on in November and December.

Village to weigh community input on project funding

The village will host four informational meetings during the next month to gauge the public’s preference in pursuing revenue either through a stormwater fee to property owners or through a sales tax increase.

“We wanted to go out to the community and inform them about the details of these two possibilities,” McIntyre said.

“We would like their feedback to see if there is a preference for a revenue-generating methodology.”

Efforts to improve the village’s stormwater infrastructure were accelerated after the historic floods in April 2013, McIntyre said.

“All of northeast Illinois has had increased flooding issues over the past decade. After April 2013, the village began to work with residents on a very fast timeline to discuss this problem and how we were going to attempt to address it,” he said.

“At the end of January the village board will make a tough decision and vote on the direction of funding a stormwater program,” he said.

If the village board opted to

pursue a sales tax hike – figures have not yet been specified, McIntyre said – it would require voter approval via a referendum question on the April ballots. A stormwater fee could be enacted by a village board vote.

“The bottom line is additional revenue is needed to address [the stormwater] issues in a more meaningful way,” McIntyre said.

A: Dentures can be quite fragile. They require careful handling when out of the mouth. Digital hearing aids offer latest technology

By Gina Kraman From a cupped hand behind the ear to wearable “ear trumpets” in the 1600s, people have sought ways and devices to aid hearing.

One hundred years ago the first electronic hearing aids were bulky and not portable. Today’s devices are now tiny enough to be completely concealed in the ear canal.

The latest innovation: digital hearing aids. Original hearing aids were “analog,” meaning they made sound waves louder.

They were adjusted by pushing a button on the hearing aid itself for different listening environments, such as a quiet library or a noisy restaurant.

In contrast, digital hearing aids convert sound waves into digital signals to produce an exact duplicate of sounds.

According to Dr. Susan Rogan, licensed audiologist with offices in Westmont and La Grange Park, “The first fully digitally programmable and processing circuit hearing aids hit the market in 1996. While all hearing aids are

now digital, there are different levels of digital technology.”

She explains, “There are entry-level products to premium product lines of sophisticated devices, which are even bluetooth ready.”

The American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASLHA) cites that “there’s been an explosion of digital hearing aids on the market in the last five years. At last count: 22 manufacturers with digital hearing aids marketed under 40 different model names.”

Digital hearing ai ds offer “significant advantages over previous hearing aids for noise reduction, speech enhancement, and processing,” according to the ASLHA. “Fortunately for both dispensing audiologists and patients, there are features and advanced signal processing schemes available in current digital hearing aids than previous analog instruments.”

Prices? Rogan says, “They range from $900 to $3,000 per ear. The manufacturer’s life span of most hearing aids is usually three to five years.”

The foundation has distributed scholarships to 128 high school seniors since 2004 at six area high schools, including Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Hinsdale Central, Hinsdale South, Lisle and Westmont high schools, according to the foundation website.

“We usually give out 14 scholarships a year, but last year because it was our 10th anniversary we gave out an extra 10,” she said.

The event has turned into a tradition in Downers Grove.

“This has turned into such a community event,” Bonfield said. “It brings people together on Thanksgiving morning and there are a lot of family and friends and neighbors there. You see people you haven’t seen in awhile.

DOWNERS GROVE – It will be time for runners and walkers to break out hats and gloves for the 11th annual Bonfield Express 5K run/ walk in downtown Downers Grove Thanksgiving Day. The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at Main and Grove streets.

Dedicated to the memory of Jim Bonfield, a South High dean, cross-country coach and teacher, the race is geared to generate funds for the scholarship assistance to area high school students.

“We’ve given away over $250,000 in 11 years,” said Annette Bonfield, Jim’s wife and president of the foundation. “It’s been a good thing and we’ve had a lot of good support in the community.

It’s been a very nice way to remember him.”

Jim Bonfield passed away in October 2003 to complications of Hodgkin’s Disease, Leukemia and Rheumatoid Arthritis, according to the foundation website.

Embracing adoption helps empower and connect new parents For parents who have chosen to adopt children, they are embarking on an exciting new path that holds great promise. To help newly adoptive parents celebrate this wonderful occasion and assist in preparing for parenthood, Metropolitan Family Services offers the Embracing Adoption initiative, part of its Adoption Preservation Program services.

All families are invited to attend an Adoption Celebration group event.

Embracing Adoption hosts Adoption Celebration events quarterly, where adoptive family members gather for an evening of fellowship and learning as members from Metropolitan’s Adoption Preservation staff help parents strengthen bonds with their children through theraplay, a set of child and family activities that builds and enhances attachment, self-esteem, trust in others and joyful engagement. Theraplay is based on natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parents and children. It is designed to create an active, emotional connection between the child and parent, helping the child see his or herself as worthy and lovable and to see relationships as positive and rewarding.

“We held our first celebration event in August and 24 parents and children attended,” said Tiffany Desroches, program supervisor for the Embracing Adoption program. “The events help parents connect with their children and allow them to interact with other families who share their experience.”

Thank you for publishing the teachers’ salaries a few weeks ago for School District 68. What we’ve found in our analysis is about one third of the teachers are making more than $90,000 a year. … Not saying they don’t work very hard for their money, but it just puts a lot of pressure on the taxpayers that pay their salaries. ... They’re supposed to be public servants, so we need to somehow in the next negotiations make tiers based on performance. If the students are performing at more than 90th percentile of the state’s criteria, then, obviously, they would earn that salary, but we’re gonna have to adjust the salaries back at least 10 percent in order for the property taxpayers to be able to afford living in Woodridge, Downers Grove and Darien. Our tax bills are astronomical. … We appreciate all you do, but enough is enough. You are indebted to the taxpayers and you must address your salaries accordingly.

I believe Westmont really lost out on Ron Searl’s departure.

Being a realist, there may have been politics involved, and, if there were, that stinks.

I must go on record by stating that I have watched Mr. Searl over the years and he always represented the village with class and distinction. He was an effective leader who cared about Westmont.

I personally met Mr. Searl a few years ago on a village business matter and I found him to be a first-class professional.

Realizing he made a mistake with his driving one night, I pose the question as to what happened to giving a person a second chance … or perhaps him attending a program?

As previously mentioned, this could have been “politics,” or, perhaps, Mr. Searl just wanted to move on anyway.

Either way, it will not be an easy task to replace him. I believe Mr. Searl to be a square shooter and an asset to his profession.

The village owes him a big thank you for his work here.

OBITUARIES BRIAN BARTKOWIAK

Born: May 28, 1973; in Hinsdale, IL Died: Nov. 14, 2014; in Chicago, IL

Brian Bartkowiak, passed away on Friday, November 14, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He was 41.

Brian was born to Don and Diane Bartkowiak on May 28, 1973, in Hinsdale, Illinois. After graduating from Downers Grove North High School in 1991, he earned a B.A. in Environmental Science from Illinois State University in 1995. Brian lived the majority of his adult life in Chicago, the city he loved, where he worked primarily as an environmental consultant. Always industrious and creative, Brian had many endeavors, from the baseball card shop he ran out of his bedroom closet to the mini-burgers he would make and sell at Chicago bars. But those closest to Bart knew his passion was drumming. He started in junior high, when he'd jam in the basement on the drum set his Aunt Eileen bought him, playing along to the Smashing Pumpkins and The Police.

Throughout his life he played in many bands, most of which with his guitarist brother Kevin, and together they were regulars around the Chicago music scene. Their current band, Big Black Bird, had recently released their second album titled A New World Wonder; their most ambitious and accomplished work to date. Bri's playing on the album is an extension of who he was: passionate, spirited, carefree, and easy to appreciate.

Brian is survived by his parents, Don and Diane; and siblings, Kathy (Neil) Lazarski, Dan (Kerri) Bartkowiak, John (Deb) Bartkowiak, Michelle (Jim Henderickson) Bartkowiak, Steve (Marilyn) Bartkowiak, and Kevin Bartkowiak; as well as aunt and uncle, Marianne and Tom; cousins, Tom and Tracy and Tim and Megan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Eileen.

Thanks to all of his friends who came to visit him in the hospital.

Everett L. Clark, “Ev”, age 84, a longtime resident of Plainfield, and formerly of Lisle, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Ev was born September 16, 1930, in Downers Grove. His parents, Howard and Marjorie Clark, preceded him in death.

Everett is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia (nee McCabe) Clark; his loving daughters, Linda (Tim Stearns) Clark of Seattle, WA and Kathie (John Rieger) Clark of Galt, CA; his cherished grandson, Samuel Stearns of Seattle,WA; his dear brother, Jerry (Terry) Clark of Beverly Beach, FL; and dear sister, Sharon (the late Jim) Heberling of Wausaukee, WI; as well as his beloved aunt, Mary Lee O'Dell; and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and dear lifelong friends.

Everett graduated from Downers Grove High School, and followed his father and grandfather into the building trades. Alongside his father, brother and brother-in-law, he successfully ran the Howard Clark Construction Co. of Downers Grove, and expanded into development, starting with Oak View, The Meadows and then The Woods subdivisions in Lisle. In the early 1970's Everett conceived of and developed The Lake in Plainfield. Everettretired from GN Clark Realty of Plainfield, in 1995.

In retirement, Ev enjoyed fishing, golfing and sharing time with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered as a caring man, who readily shared his hearty laugh.

Everett will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert was an Eagle Scout and also a past member of the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by sons, David, Roger, and Philip Sauer; grandson, Neil Sauer.

Village is at risk of losing $580,000 after alleged loan fraud

By KELLI MURRAY kmurray@shawmedia.com DOWNERS GROVE – The village of Downers Grove has reported that a federal fraud investigation is tying up taxpayer money while authorities prosecute a case pertaining to allegedly fraudulent loans on the part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture approved lender.

The village is reporting $586,000 placed with the Illinois Metropolitan Investment Fund is at risk.

“We found out in early October that this had occurred and the exact and complete impact of it all was not made clear until later in the month,” said Douglas Kozlowski, communications director for the village. “As soon as we found out what our liability was, we took steps to remove all remaining funds from IMET.” The village withdrew $20 million in funds invested in IMET and placed those funds into a separate bank account that is 110 percent guaranteed by the U.S. government, Kozlowski said.

“The potential loss of up to $586,000 will have no immediate impact on operations due to the village’s strong financial position,” Kozlowski said.

The fund recovery process will be monitored by the village and options to recover the full amount will be explored if IMET is unable to recover the funds.

The village is one of 293 governmental bodies that invests funds in IMET, according to the IMET website.

IMET was notified in September of defaults on certain guaranteed loans that totaled more than $50.4 million back, approximately 2.8 percent of the net asset value of the Convenience Fund. These funds invest in repurchase agreements involving loans that are guaranteed by the USDA, according to IMET. Nikesh Patel, CEO of First Farmers Financial, was arrested by the FBI on a charge connected to the $150 million in fraudulent loans and was later released on a $100,000 bond, according to reports.

IMET Executive Director Laura Allen has not returned calls for comment, but an IMET statement has been released.

“IMET is aggressively pursuing all appropriate measures to recover approximately $50 million in investments made by its Convenience Fund in fraudulent loans sold by First Farmers Financial. We have retained Randy Lending from Vedder Price as outside legal counsel to lead these efforts. In the meantime, our top priority remains delivering attractive returns to the municipalities and other public agencies across Illinois that participate as investors with IMET. IMET has an 18-year history of providing outstanding investment returns to its participants and this is the first time we have been the target of criminal fraud. We are taking all appropriate actions to guard against further such incidents.”

IMET posted several letters to investors detailing the fraud investigation on its website.

Save on appetizers: Appetizers set the tone for the meal, so they need to be appealing. On the other hand, you don't want guests to fill up on them and have no room left for the main course. Keeping appetizers light and simple saves room in guests' tummies and saves you time, too.

Serve simple two-ingredient appetizers or even storebought options to minimize prep time.

Holiday Eggnog

Yields 7 cups • 6 whole eggs • 2 egg yolks • 1 cup granulated sugar • 4 t sea salt • 3 cups whole milk • 1 T vanilla extract • 1 to 2 cup bourbon whiskey • 1 to 2 t freshly ground nutmeg • 1 cup heavy cream • 4 cup vanilla sugar (or plain granulated sugar) Combine eggs, egg yolks, sugar and salt in a heavy-bottom sauce pot. Whisk until smooth, then stir in milk.

Several students from Saint Mary of Gostyn School in Downers Grove recently participated in the Robert Huntoon Memorial Math Contest at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard.

Approximately 700 students, representing 44 schools, participated in the individual and team competitions in 4 distinct divisions on Nov. 8.

Students who participated from St. Mary of Gostyn School include sixth graders Annie Bieda, Mattie Cieplak, who took fourth place, Connor Farrell, who placed tenth, Cooper Petersen, Bobby Sloyan, who took first place, and Jack Walsh, who placed sixth.

Seventh grade participants were Brianna Almeida, Sophia Cho, Evelyn Harmon, Maddy

“It’s an enjoyable course,” Althoff said. “If participants are looking to improve their time in a race, they usually do well.”

dents participated in the 5K, Althoff said.

Proceeds from the race this year will help fund chamber operations and scholarships, Althoff said, but a portion will be donated to the Lisle Lions Club.

“It’s a great time and a healthy thing to do,” Althoff said. “It helps maintain a physical fitness plan, since in the winter we tend to let things go a bit, and is fun for the community to help out organizations like the Lions Club and the chamber.”

The brunch menu, offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, includes sweet dishes such as strawberry cheesecake French toast served with fresh berries, creme anglaise and whipped cream. There’s a full selection of morning cocktails, and our server told us the house Bloody Mary is handmade with the restaurant’s own recipe. Specialty Lavazza coffee drinks also are featured.

We stopped in on a Saturday, but on Sundays, a pianist plays the sleek baby grand tucked in the corner from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, live jazz and other entertainment starts at 7 p.m.

The dinner menu entices with charcuterie, crab cakes, steak, and Cajun-inspired shrimp and scallops with andouille, bell pepper and cheese grits, one of many gluten-free choices.

BOLINGBROOK – It was a crisp autumn morning when my friend and I walked into Sage Kitchen + Bar in Bolingbrook.

The warmth of the restaurant was welcome after the chilly air, and the sun shone through tall windows along the walls of the attractive, contemporary space.

We read the menu, debating what we should have for brunch. With some friendly advice from our server, we made our picks.

My friend took advantage of the build-your-own skillet option, choosing to top her breakfast potatoes with spinach, cheddar, portobello mushrooms and the crowning touch of a pair of sunny-sideup eggs.

Other possible toppings included bacon, bell peppers, goat cheese, red onions, Tasso ham, tomatoes, avocado, andouille, chicken and turkey. Any of these also can be tossed into a custom omelette.

I went for the Sage breakfast sandwich, a pretzel flatbread loaded with scrambled eggs, bacon, spicy mayo and avocado. I chose breakfast potatoes on the side, but Parmesan fries are another option.

We also had to try the chilaquiles. The bowl of corn tortilla chips tossed with black beans, roasted corn, queso fresco, pulled pork and eggs any style sounded too good to pass up. Our server asked if we’d like salsa verde or red salsa but kindly accommodated our request to have both on the side.

As we chatted about our weekend plans, the shops at The Promenade tempted us from just beyond the windows. Our server stopped by to make sure we didn’t need anything else while we waited for our brunch, which fueled us for the rest of the day.

By Gina Kraman All new sets, lavish costumes, and a 42-piece live orchestra will enhance Salt Creek Ballet’s 30th anniversary production of “The Nutcracker,” on Saturday, November 29, and Sunday, November 30 in Hinsdale.

Internationally known guest dancers Ilya Kozadayev and Yumelia Garcia will join the cast of 110+ dancers from Salt Creek Ballet’s School. Garcia has been a leading artist with the Joffrey Ballet. She joined the National Ballet of Caracas, in her native Venezuela, when she was 15. Russian-born and trained Kozadayev was the 2000 winner of the New York Ballet Competition. He hails from a family of ballet dancers, including his parents, who are the artistic directors of the Salt Creek Ballet.

“This is a beautiful musical production set to the enchanting Tchaikovsky score. It’s a holiday classic,” says Christina Salerno, executive director

and former dancer with the Salt Creek Ballet. “With waltzing flowers, dueling mice, and spectacular dancers, it’s a great family show.”

While there are many versions of “The Nutcracker,” Salt Creek Ballet’s rendition has been reviewed as “a solid, professional ‘Nutcracker.’ The young Salt Creek dancers work hard to achieve intensity while retaining the purely cool and classic lines of ballet,” according to the Chicago SunTimes.

Dance Magazine calls it “excellent, on a level rarely met in regional ballet companies.”

The performances are at 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 29; and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, at the Hinsdale Central Auditorium, 5500 S. Grant St., Hinsdale.

Sunday’s performance concludes with a “Sugar Plum Party,” where audience members are invited on-stage to meet the “Nutcracker” performers and enjoy refreshments and crafts, included in the ticket price.

Downers Grove, Westmont athletes sign letter of intent SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA

A handful of local athletes signed letters of intent Nov. 12 to play collegiate sports at universities throughout the country.

Downers Grove north cross country and track runner Ryan Clevenger announced last week on Twitter that he would be signing with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The announcement and subsequent signing came days after Clevenger’s fourthplace finish at the Class 3A cross country meet in Peoria.

Also joining Clevenger in

signing letters of intent to Big Ten Conference schools were Trojan swimmers Gabriele Serniute and Emily Albrecht.

Serniute chose University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, while Albrecht will join the swim team at Ohio State University.

Trojan softball player Emma Varsbergs also signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Indianapolis.

A trio of athletes at Downers Grove South also signed collegiate letters of intent on Nov. 12.

Mustangs baseball player Joe Engel will attend Colum-

bia University. In 41 career varsity games, Joe has a .370 batting average, with 39 hits, 18 RBI, 30 runs scored and an OB% of .482. He has helped the baseball team capture two regional championships during his high school career.

Tennis player Tony Leto accepted a scholarship to play for the Big Ten’s University of Iowa for the fall of 2015. Tony Leto is a two-time All-State selection for the Mustangs on teams that have finished seventh in 2013 and a best-ever 4th in 2014 in the State.

One of the best distance runners in DGS school history, Amanda Thate will run at Kansas State University next year. As a four-year member of both the varsity cross country and track and field teams, she currently holds five school records.

At Westmont, two athletes signed letters of Intent. Sentinels Shortstop Charlie Donovan signed to University of Michigan to play baseball, and softball pitcher Kristen Skala signed to Quincy University to play softball. Both will finish their Westmont High School careers this spring.

ELMHURST – The Downers Grove girls swim team won the York sectional in record setting fashion Saturday.

The Trojans set pool records in five events en route to a 229-point performance, 18 more than second-place York.

The North 200 medley relay team of Emily Albrecht, Gabriele Serniute, Daria Wick and Lindsay Mathys set a new pool record of 1:44.27. The foursome also combined to set a new pool record in the 200 free relay.

In the 50 free, Albrecht set a new pool record and broke her own school record, and Mathys set a new pool record in the 100 free. Divers Emily Aument and Elizabeth Aument broke the previous pool record, finishing first and second in the one meter dive.

Additionally, the Trojans’ 400 yard freestyle relay team of Gabriele Serniute, Emily Albrecht, Cassandra Candel and Lindsay Mathys placed first, and Serniute had the top time in the 200 individual medley.

Ellie Benge and Wick also qualified for the state final in the 100 butterfly.

The state final is Friday and Saturday at Evanston Township High School.

Downers Grove South

Junior Aimee Dragas qualified for the state final while competing at the Downers Grove South sectional. Dragas qualified in the 100 breaststroke and 200, 100 and 50 freestyle for athletes with disabilities.

The Mustangs finished in fifth place at the sectional, 14 points behind fourth-place Hinsdale South. Before the sectional, the Downers Grove South varsity swim team captured a share of the West Suburban Gold conference title.
