Step away from the hustle of daily life and step into nature with a getaway to Kishauwau Cabins.

The family-owned, wooded oasis has welcomed guests for the last 36 years. The property is located near several state parks including Starved Rock, Matthiessen, Illini and Buffalo Rock.

The 17 comfortable cabins are a great place to retire to after a long day. Each cabin is cozy with a spacious interior. Each cabin is equipped with a full kitchen & bathroom, 12 of them offer huge whirlpool tubs. Other amenities include central air/ furnace heat and either a wood or gas fireplace. Outside all cabins you’ll find an outdoor grill, firepit and picnic table.

Our cabins are located on 65 acres of wooded landscape located above the Vermilion River. With plenty

of space to spread out, find quiet and privacy from the other guests. Cabins come in an array of sizes, perfect for a couple’s romantic weekend away, single family vacation

or a family reunion of up to 70 people.

Your family will make memories as they gather around the firepit and share stories while roasting marsh-

mallows for s’mores. Wake up in the morning and enjoy that first cup of coffee as you take in a beautiful sunrise and listen to the birds start their day. Find beauty in every season, from the first burst of daffodils in the spring to the quiet during a winter snow.

Our guests can enjoy exclusive events including the concert with musician John King on Sept. 30, which includes a catered picnic meal.

We have a few cabins still available for the spectacular July 4th holiday filled with yard games and activities. Cuddle under the stars to watch our fireworks display. The July 4th holiday requires a five-night stay.

Schweickert Ganassin Krzak Rundio, LLP: Fighting for the injured

Schweickert Ganassin Krzak Rundio, LLP (“SGKR”) is a personal injury and workers’ compensation law firm head-quartered in Peru, with offices in Ottawa, Morris and Chicago dedicated to protecting the rights of injury victims and getting them results. SGKR was voted the top personal injury firm in North Central Illinois in the Studstill Media “Best of North Central Illinois” poll the past three years.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from our community,” said partner Michael Krzak. “We will continue to maintain our strong work ethic when fighting for justice for injured Illinois citizens. Our lawyers are dedicated to providing trusted and reliable legal services to those who have been wrongfully injured. We believe that anyone who is injured has the right to be made whole again and to be treated with dignity and respect. That principle drives our lawyers to work hard every day to look out for and serve our clients’ interests in the best manner possible. For decades, we have been standing up for the rights of hard-working people in North Central Illinois. Legal matters can get complex. We are here to communicate with and guide our clients through the process.”

SGKR grew from Schweickert & Ganassin, a full-service law practice that provided decades of service in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases under longtime partners Douglas Schweickert and Scott Ganassin. Krzak, who has represented death and injury victims in major aviation crashes, truck crashes, train derailments, automobile collisions and other transportation incidents in Chicago and throughout the world, and Matthew Rundio, who has successfully prosecuted injury and wrongful death claims from automobile, trucking, railroad and medical negligence victims, joined the firm in 2018.

The firm has other expe-

rienced attorneys, including Frederick Glassman, a seasoned workers compensation attorney and Adriane LaShure, who has repeatedly been named an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star.

Last year the firm welcomed LaSalle-Peru High School alumna Melinda Rowe-Sullivan who brings her experiences from formerly defending employees in worker compensation cases and as a former arbitrator for the Illinois Workers’ Compensation, where she served for six years. Her experience of representing the employer’s, workers and as an arbitrator gives her a unique perspective and allows her to skillfully navigate issues that arise in worker’s compensation cases.

The firm has recovered

hundreds of millions of dollars for their clients. Krzak settled a case involving injuries sustained by a resident of the Illinois Valley in an automobile accident for $2.2 million and a truck accident case for $9.2 million in Chicago.

SGKR provides free case evaluations to potential new clients. To learn more about the firm, you can visit them at www.ganassin.com.

Our team has earned several accolades. Krzak was recognized in the 2022 Edition of the Best Lawyers in America by his peers for his exceptional work in the practice of Personal Injury Litigation and Aviation litigation. It was the sixth consecutive year he received the honor. Rundio and Krzak made the exclusive list of talented attorneys in Leading and Emerging Lawyers magazine for their work in personal injury litigation. Krzak has been honored annually since 2011 and Rundio since 2013. Krzak and Rundio have been named Illinois Super Lawyers. Only

the top 5 percent of the state’s experienced lawyers receive this commendation. Rundio has been recognized with this honor since 2013 and Krzak since 2014.

SGKR believes in supporting the community and its team regularly sponsor non-profits and youth sports to help uplift the community. The long list includes monetary donations to the Illinois Valley, Hall Township and Bureau County food pantries; participation in the Hometown Hero Contest honoring community heroes; sponsoring the Prairie State Legal Services pig roast to help fund legal services for those in need; and monetary support for the “Fill the Truck with Food” drive benefiting the Illinois Valley Food Pantry. SGKR also is a sponsor of the LaSalle girls’ softball, Ottawa Soccer Club, Special Olympics, St.

At 1300 Starfire Drive in Ottawa, obstetrician/gynecologists Victoria Ochoa, D.O., Douglas Toussaint, D.O., and Nurse Practitioner Heidi Miller specialize in the care of women, including pregnancy, labor and postpartum care; normal and high risk pregnancies; family planning counseling; birth control options; diagnosis and treatment of female reproductive system disorders; minimally invasive surgeries; and more. Their expecting patients deliver at Morris Hospital’s beautiful Family Birthing Suites.

In the same office, patients with heart issues can see cardiologist Syed Ahmed, M.D., Mary Menz, D.O., and Athar Saeed, M.D., with Morris Hospital Cardiovascular Specialists. The Cantlin Law Firm more than attorneys, they are family

The Cantlin Law Firm is not your typical law firm as it is not every day the attorneys in the firm are family members. Being family is what makes The Cantlin Law Firm unique as teamwork and collaboration comes naturally when working with family.

The venerable Ottawa law firm was established by John L Cantlin in 1977. John, who goes by Jack, works alongside four of his five children, Christina, who recently returned after finishing an appointment as a Circuit Judge, Timothy, Joseph, and Megan. Jack’s oldest son, Ryan, is also an attorney. He works for the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s office.

Each attorney focuses on different areas of the law. Jack focuses on personal injury, wrongful death litigation, estate administration, and estate planning. Christina’s days are usually spent focusing on municipal law as corporation counsel for the City of Ottawa along with handling the Managing Partner duties. Timothy focuses on personal injury, wrongful death, and litigation. Joseph focuses on farm, commercial, and residential real estate transactions, estate planning, and estate administration. Megan focuses on municipal law

by assisting with the City of Ottawa and handles civil litigation, traffic/DUIs, and business entities. With each attorney focusing on different areas of the law, clients can build and maintain a relationship with the firm and still receive experienced legal advice in many areas of the law. For example, while the initial client contact with the firm might be for a personal injury case, the client can get the same experienced legal advice when they are ready to sell or buy a new home or need assistance when a loved one passes away.

Not only is The Cantlin Law Firm unique by being family members, its

not every day you hear the lawyers also continue to operate a family grain farm. By growing up on a farm, Jack and his children learned at a young age that hard work and dedication is necessary to be successful. This hard work and dedication reflect in their law practice to ensure they provide their clients with the best possible representation. With the family’s agricultural background, the firm is uniquely positioned to have the ability and understanding to confidently represent a variety of farmer-clients and their interests.

The Cantlin Law Firm is also a proud supporter of the community to ensure they give back to the community that supports their long-standing legal practice. The Cantlin Law Firm proudly supports youth organizations such as Little League, Illinois Valley Gymnastics Academy, and the Ottawa Soccer Club. The Firm also supports multiple local schools and provides a scholarship at IVCC each year. With the family’s strong agricultural ties, the Firm also supports agricultural programs such as 4-H and FFA.

The Cantlin Law Firm is a uniquely positioned law firm that uses teamwork, experience, and dedication to provide clients with the results they deserve.

Connecting Point president Jeff Borelli and his staff of 21 have supported the Illinois Valley Area since they opened in downtown Peru. “Our business encourages our employees to volunteer and donate their time as often as possible.” Borelli said. “Being active and involved in our community has always been a cornerstone of our company.”

Shopping online or at a big chain store doesn’t offer the same customer service you receive at a local business in our

Great food, family traditions at The Lakes Country Club

For owner Tad Nelson, The Lakes Country Club represents traditions. From the property’s long history to the families that return time and again for their favorite menu items, to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.

While many remember when the grounds were called Prairie Lake, Nelson said after he purchased the property he wanted to re-brand it and give it a fresh, new look like maintaining the traditions of great food and the place to go for casual dining, family celebrations.

Nelson grew up in the restaurant business. His great-grandmother established Garzanelli’s Supper Club in Oglesby and passed the business to Nelson’s grandmother and great aunt. His mother and aunts grew up in the residences above the restaurant. Even after his grandmother sold the business, she continued to work at the restaurant through the mid-1980s. Nelson remembers spending time in the restaurant kitchen, watching his grandmother make the homemade ravioli and other menu items.

“My grandmother was always a good cook,” Nelson recalled. “As I grew up, I would spend time cooking with her, trying new recipes.”

That love of cooking and food couldn’t be denied even as he pursued a career as a computer consultant. Travel-

ing the country Nelson would always find a way to try new foods, visit restaurants and he’s brought some of his favorite flavors and foods back with him to The Lake Country Club, along with the local favorites that his loyal customers return for time and again.

Nelson also opened Carson Tap House in Morris, which has become a local favorite dining destination as well.

Whether its grabbing a sandwich or burger for lunch after playing a round or its families meeting up for a Sunday lunch to celebrate a special anniversary, birthday Nelson loves to see customers having a great dining experience at The Lakes Country Club.

Our restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9

p.m. and Friday and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

The culinary team is proud to offer a variety of menu items from appetizers and salads to handheld sandwiches, burgers and entrees featuring chicken, seafood, ribeye steak and the tomahawk porkchop. There are daily specials and a full menu is available at the website, thelakescc.net.

The bar offers a nice variety of beers on tap and in bottle as well and the cocktail menu has plenty of options.

The banquet hall can easily accommodate parties of up to 100 and staff will be happy to help you plan your special event, from small weddings to class reunions as well as bridal and baby showers, anniversary and birthday parties. There’s still time to book first communion, confirmation and graduation parties as well.

For larger event gatherings,

The Lakes Country Club has a large outdoor tent it can set up to host adjacent to the golf greens. Guests can even book one of the 12 hotel rooms available on property, a perfect option for weddings.

From Friday night dinners to birthday celebrations, Nelson and his team at The Lakes Country Club are happy to welcome back guests and help keep the tradition of good food, great friends.

Ottawa Dental Laboratory Great Experiences… Lasting Smiles

Founded in 1937, the Ottawa Dental Laboratory has served the dental community for 86 years. This third generation, family owned and operated company has evolved with this ever-changing, dynamic industry. Luke Caruso, III, President & Chief Operating Officer claims, “We’re committed to the investment of new technology, new materials, and product development to keep us on the cutting edge in order to maintain our position in the industry and to sustain the pace of our strategic growth.”

Digital dentistry has catapulted the industry into milling and 3D printing technology. The Ottawa Dental Laboratory adopted CAD/CAM technology in the mid-90’s and remains at the forefront of the industry. Technology-driven production has increased significantly resulting in the creation of new positions and the need for expansion. In 2019, the Ottawa Dental Laboratory opened a second Ottawa facility situ-

ated at 1615 E. Norris Dr., to house their digital workflow, expand production, and support additional CAD/CAM equipment.

Over the last few years, expansion has played an important role in the success of the Ottawa Dental Laboratory. With two locations in Ottawa, others in Chicago and Bloomington, Illinois, and one in South Bend, Indiana, in 2021 they expanded their footprint in the Midwest by acquiring three laboratories in Racine, Appleton, and Greendale, Wisconsin, as well as one in Springfield, Illinois. This rapid growth allows the Ottawa Dental Laboratory to offer more jobs in these local communities. By the end of last year, the total number of employees working for the Ottawa Dental Laboratory had grown to 356 across all locations. New training and development programs, including the Delta Tau Study Club, have been integrated to make working at the Ottawa Dental Laboratory not just a job, but a career.

Expanding their team of professionals is a key component of their success.

When you feel supported by the community, it is natural to want to give back. The Ottawa Dental Laboratory and its employees are key contributors to the United Way organization and other charities. They consistently support the local community and those that are less fortunate.

The Ottawa Dental Laboratory continues to grow as its dedication and loyalty to their employees, the dental community, and the local community remains strong. Jim Caruso, President & Chief Administrative Officer states, “The key to our success in the future will be to continue embracing the foundation of why my grandfather, Tony Caruso, founded the lab in the first place: ‘to provide the finest dental prosthetics in the Midwest.’”

Friendship House Ottawa

For 55 years Friendship House Ottawa has provided a place of joy and purpose for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“We live here, we work here, we worship here, and we have a lot of fun here,” said Executive Director Tony Barrett.

The basis for Friendship House Ottawa started with a mother in the community, Jane McCormick, who had a vision to create structured programs for her son with Down syndrome. That vision

has become Friendship House Ottawa, which supports about 100 members including 35 individuals in its residential program. Friendship House Ottawa offers community integrated living arrangements, semi-independent living, vocational training and work opportunities in the community.

“It’s a family-style atmosphere here,” Barrett said.

Each day brings new opportunities and adventures, from exploring LaSalle County’s history and nature to large events such as its an-

nual fundraising gala or the recent opportunity for members to attend the Tim Tebow Foundation’s a Night To Shine prom where residents donned their best dresses and ties and danced till their feet were too tired.

The Friendship House Professional Work Center provides vocational training to help individuals grow their confidence and abilities, with supervision to cheer them along. Our members are valued part of the community labor force including

our partner MBL which has employed individuals from Friendship House for more than 35 years.

Daily activities at Friendship House include music therapy, exercise, meals and plenty of time socialize together and build strong connections.

With guidance from our Board of Directors, incredible community partners and support from individuals and business we can help every individual we are privileged to serve reach his or her fullest potential.

One of their more popular ones is the High Yield Checking Account, which will allow eligible members to earn more interest without tying up their funds. New home mortgages can now include escrow

for taxes and insurance in the monthly payment.  Ask your favorite Member Service Representative to learn more about any of these new products.  Coming soon you will also have the option to communicate with SOCU via text, in addition to phone, online chat, or video call.

Caring tradition at Solon-Telford Funeral Home

From the moment you walk through the doors at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, you feel a sense of home. The look and feel of the funeral home creates a feeling of warmth and comfort as you enter the building.

The building is the former residence and office of prominent Streator physician, Dr. M.F. Dorsey and his family. The Solon family purchased the property and after extensive renovations the residence opened as a funeral home in 1955.

Today, the business is owned and operated by Jason and Dolly Telford, who take great care in the legacy the Solon family members began over 120 years ago. Though the funeral industry has seen many changes in its history, the focus on caring, dignified assistance to their families remains at the heart of the business at Solon-Telford Funeral Home.

Serving with Jason and Dolly is Joe Rabbitt, licensed funeral director/ embalmer for nearly 50 years and a Streator native. The latest addition to the funeral home is licensed apprentice and Blackstone resident Darel Good. The team at Solon-Telford Funeral

Home is always there to provide support and help you create a beautiful, lasting tribute to your loved ones. Other part-time employees of the funeral home include Pat Gibbons, a licensed funeral director, Tim Redd, Bill Lee, Jerry Ftacek, Jeff Horner

and Vickie Cantrell. “We could not offer the service that we do without the wonderful staff that we have,” Jason Telford said. “They are all incredibly valuable to us and we are very thankful to have them as part of our funeral home family.”

Ottawa Chamber continues to evolve to support community’s needs

The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce is a dynamic nonprofit business organization that works to promote local business interests, while also advancing the economic wellbeing of the community. Recently, the chamber has moved offices to the IVCC Ottawa Center at 321 W. Main St., a more visible space that goes along with the chamber’s widespread engagement on social media and the active staff and volunteers out in the community. The Chamber is gearing up for an exciting year in 2023.

Member value is an important aspect of the chamber. Members have access to a robust networking system to promote their business and expand their client base. The chamber provides referrals, offers opportunities to get involved, and includes access to long-standing networking groups.

In the last two years, the chamber has also made a dramatic push onto social media,

with over 3,100 followers on the chamber Facebook page. This, along with free chamber website listings, helps make members more visible in web searches and on social media.

Another recent push has been a greater focus on business advocacy towards local, state, and federal officials.

The chamber has joined forces with five other local chambers to become the combined voice of the region.

“A regional chamber can speak for 2,000 member businesses, instead of only 400 Ottawa companies,” said Jeff Hettrick, Ottawa Chamber of Commerce executive director. “Together we demonstrate a united front on business issues.”

The chamber has also expanded partnerships with local organizations, such as assisting local volunteers in coordinating the Ottawa ScarecrowFest and the Wine and Art Walk. In 2022, the chamber partnered with the City of Ottawa and the local REALTORS® association to

hold the first-ever Commercial Property Open House Tour. The chamber was also proud to be one of five area chambers to band together to bring a renowned Customer Service Excellence speaker to educate nearly 175 attendees from local businesses in the area.

The chamber has harnessed the knowledge and enthusiasm of members on several key committees:

The Member Services Committee, which assists the chamber in adding value to memberships with programs, outreach, and mentoring new members.

The Public Policy Committee, which researches issues and provides accurate information to members and advocacy for local elected officials.

The Chamber Ambassadors, who take on community projects, represent the chamber at various functions and participate in new business ribbon cuttings!

The chamber is also excited that, along with the Ottawa

Business Builders and the Greater Ottawa Networking Group, the Ottawa Network of Young Executives group will be returning this year to develop the Ottawa business leaders of tomorrow.

The chamber also has numerous groups of volunteers helping with planning annual events.

“Getting involved in chamber committees is one of our most important member benefits,” said Julia Petterson, member services coordinator for the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. “Not only can you create positive results within the community, but you can establish new business contacts and increase your visibility at the same time. The rewards are endless.”

The Ottawa Area Chamber is always looking for innovative ideas and spirited individuals to get involved. Find out more and get involved by calling 815-433-0084 or visiting ottawachamberillinois.com today.

The kitchen pictured is an example of details the homeowner specified for her Ottawa home kitchen remodeling project.

Her theme was modern farmhouse style which included a farm sink, custom wood hood with a crossbuck design front , X panels on the ends of her stained wood island, floating wood shelves, deep drawers, coffee bar with glass door cabinets above and quartz tops with a 2 1/4 thick walnut butcher block insert at one end of the 12 foot long island! Improve hearing, improve life

Wallace Center for Hearing is located at 4127 Progress Blvd. in Peru. Wallace Center for Hearing opened in January of 2022 and has quickly become the leading hearing healthcare provider in the Illinois Valley. Hearing loss is the third most chronic health condition behind arthritis and heart disease. Hearing loss is

twice as common as diabetes and cancer. There are social and emotional effects of hearing loss such as depression, anxiety, self-isolation, and personal conflicts with others. There are physical effects of untreated hearing loss such as dementia and

Alzheimer’s. Mild hearing loss doubles your risk of experiencing dementia and moderate hearing loss triples your risk of developing dementia. Severe hearing loss increases your risk of developing dementia 5 times. Patients with untreated hearing loss are also 3 times more likely to suffer from falls.

Today, we have the technology and advancements available to effectively treat most hearing losses. No one should be suffering from hearing loss and the effects of hearing loss any longer. By treating your hearing loss, you will be improving your overall health. You will enjoy life again and your relationships with others will improve. You will have regained confidence and independence. Treating your hearing loss allows you to

keep your brain stimulated and reduces your risk of developing dementia. You will have more energy at the end of the day for other things.

Seeking help for your hearing loss will be a positive experience at Wallace Center for Hearing. Beth Wallace, M.S. will guide you every step of the way from diagnosing, treating, and then continually managing and servicing your hearing loss. Treatment plans are individualized and unique to your needs. Wallace Center for Hearing specializes in assisting others to overcome their hearing loss.

Vactor Manufacturing has more than 50 distributors in more than 100 locations

For more than 100 years, Vactor Manufacturing has been building durable, reliable products using air conveyance, high-pressure water, and vacuum technology.

The business began in Chicago in 1911 as the Myers-Sherman Company, a manufacturer of pneumatic farm equipment, before moving to its current location in Streator during the 1930s.

The pneumatic conveying systems in the original products provided the impetus for today’s success as a global leader and innovator in the manufacture of Sewer Cleaners, Hydro-Excavators, and Industrial Vacuum Loaders.

Today Vactor Manufacturing is the home of three brands, Vactor, TRUVAC, and Guzzler, which represent the three markets we have

spent decades pioneering and leading. The success we have enjoyed is owed to the dedication of our employees and our extensive dealer network.

Vactor Manufacturing has more than 50 North American distributors in more than 100 locations to serve the municipal market, as well as 12 factory direct locations through FS Solutions for industrial and utility customers

in the United States.

Joe Johnson Equipment (JJE), now a subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation, has eight locations across Canada.

“Our employees take great pride in their work.” shared Katie Muntz,Human Resources Manager. “The employee commitment to quality drives the proven reputation of Vactor products.”
