Welcome to Swedish Days We are so excited to announce a full schedule of events for the 72nd Swedish Days, supported

by Northwestern Medicine and considered the “Granddaddy of Illinois Festivals”.

With our last two years of summer events being on a smaller scale, we look forward to a more “normal” Swedish Days. The Geneva Chamber of Commerce has been working hard since the beginning of the year to organize, prepare and shape this grand celebration. We are bringing back all the favorite events of years’ past. Our great volunteers, many parade participants and scrumptious food vendors all return to create this festival of fun.

The festival will begin on Wednesday, June 22nd, showcasing our award-winning Geneva Park District and all they have to offer which will include Geneva’s Got Talent semi-finals. The carnival will be open, the Craft Brew tent will be serving delicious craft selections, our non-profits will begin food sales and the Geneva History Museum shows you what makes Geneva special with their historic tours. We want this night to be about

The Central Stage entertainment begins on Thursday with the Geneva Park District’s Geneva’s Got Talent finals and concluding with the ABBA tribute band, Dancing Queen. Central Stage will be filled with all types of bands throughout the event. Don’t forget to stop by for our Concerts on the Lawn on the courthouse lawn, celebrating young and upcoming talent from the area.

Again, this year, we will be hosting the Swedish Days Car Show starting at 5 pm on S. Third Street. Come down and enjoy some vintage cars. Great music and local food complete this event. If you know of anyone that wants to “show-off” their car, tell them to come on down to Franklin and 3rd at 4:00 to get a space. Space will be limited so get there early. Geneva merchants will be staying open til 8 pm, look for the sign in the window.

One tradition that is changing this year is the location for our Settlers Breakfast. It will be hosted by Copper Fox on Third St. This event is open (and free) to all our residents that have lived in Geneva for over 15 years.

We always welcome the presentation by our own Mayor, Kevin Burns.

Friday brings our Kids’ Day event, located at the Geneva Public Library. Our event starts with the Kids Parade with registration at 10:00 am on the courthouse lawn on Campbell St. Come down for fun booths with interactive games, local entertainment including the School of Rock, Geneva H.S. cheerleader squad performances, Cherry Berry Blast Face Painting Co., pizza sales, cotton candy and much more. Bring the kids down from 11:00 am-3:00 pm for a day of safe fun, inclusive for all families.

You can’t leave Swedish Days without first visiting Sweden Väst, our very own Swedish village with food, entertainment and games, all Swedish style for you, only on Saturday and Sunday located in the Judges Lot of the County Courthouse on James St. Sunday, of course, is our renowned Swedish Days Parade, a tradition for all families in the area brought back after a two-year hiatus.

Our sponsors are a huge part of making this all happen, be certain to visit their booths on James Street and businesses in the Tri-Cities.

Everything Under the Sun for Little Ones Swedish Days Festival supported by Northwestern Medicine has got the kids covered Wednesday through Sunday.

Beginning Wednesday catch a thrill at the carnival starting Wednesday at 2:00 pm. Daily unlimited ride carnival specials. Each day also visit Geneva Public Library and enjoy inside the Library’s inclusive play area, crafts, story times, and games.

Come out on Wednesday evening for a night with Geneva Park District featuring Geneva Park District’s Angels Cheer & Poms Team, the Geneva Gymnastics Academy, Playhouse 38 youth performers, and the Geneva Park District’s Sunset Dance Academy. Always exciting are the Geneva’s Got Talent semi-finalists as they take the stage bringing Wednesday to a close.

Complimentary face painting with Cherry Berry Blast on the courthouse lawn is offered 1:00-3:00 pm on Thursday.

From early in the morn to late into the night, kids can stay busy with Kids’ Day on June 24 at the Geneva Public Library, 227 S. Seventh St. An inclusive event for kids of all abilities. Decorate a bike, decorate yourself or do both. Register, beginning at 10 am, on the corner of Campbell & Fourth (Courthouse lawn). Step off is at 11:00 am at same location. First place in each category will receive a Graham’s Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream Gift Certificate and first 100 registrants will receive a Buy One, Get One ice-cream coupon for Graham’s at check-in. From 3:00 to 7:00 pm, Stone Creek Miniature Golf Course has a Kids’ Day special for ages 3-15. Later that evening…cosmic golf in the dark.

Dodgeball tourney on Friday and the popular 3-on3 Basketball Tournament, sponsored by Northwestern Medicine returns on Saturday where players ages 10 and older can put their hoop skills to the test during the tournament. Year after year, the prestigious Geneva Arts Fair showcases the work of over 120 fine artists from around the country. Designed as an interactive gallery, this year’s juried show will provide visitors with the opportunity to peruse multiple mediums and talk directly with the artists about their stunning displays. Do We Have Swedish Spirit? Yes We Do! Swedish Days would not be Swedish Days without a taste of Sweden represented. From music to food to specialized items, the Geneva Chamber has it on the schedule.

On Wednesday enjoy a traditional kick-off to Swedish Days. Strolling musicians will play music of Sweden, dressed in the colors of the country. Perhaps some dancing will ensue.

Dancing Queen, performing the music of ABBA, returns to our Central Stage on Thursday.

Saturday and Sunday finds the Judges Lot (off of James & Fourth) becoming Sweden Väst. Vendors will be set up to engage you in Swedish history, tempt your tastebuds or offer unique Swedish inspired items.

Nordic Folk Dancers will be demonstrating traditional Swedish dancing on the Courthouse Lawn and Swedish Folk will perform on Sunday on the Courthouse steps, we were lucky to round up some Vikings. (See schedule for vendors, days, and times.) Sweden Väst is sponsored

by Stockholm’s and Friends of the Viking Ship.

Scandinavian Saturday begins at 5 pm with Jaerv.

This band, direct from Sweden, will delight you with their musical prowess. On their North American tour, we are fortunate to bring them to Geneva. At 7 pm, Minnesota based band Necessary Diversion finishes the evening, as some even consider Minnesota to be the unofficial Norwegian capital of the United States.

Don’t expect to hear Swedish music, but rather a little bit of everything else from the 70s to today.

Geneva United Methodist Church-Men’s Club (Fourth & James), Chianti’s (Third & Campbell), Grahams Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream (302 S.Third St.) and Sweden Väst ~ Sat & Sun (Judges lot off of James Street) are scheduled to have Swedish food on their menu. Entertainment - Rhythm is Gonna Get You Geneva will be rocking mid-June when explosive bands come to the Swedish Days Festival supported

by Northwestern Medicine. We’ve got several genres covered – so whatever your listening pleasure, you will find your favorites all have a place on this year’s slate of artists.

The live music can be enjoyed in two spots — on the Central Stage and the Courthouse lawn both located on Third Street. Performances run June 22-25. Again this year the superb talent of Richard Peck from R/J Recording and Sound will provide the sound and lights for entertainment. Gerald Subaru of North Aurora is the proud presenter of Central Stage entertainment all week.

Wednesday evening’s Central Stage entertainment will begin at 4:00 pm as the Swedish American Children’s Choir and Swedish musicians welcome you with a traditional Swedish Välkommen, as they then take the stage to perform music and songs from Sweden, along with some audience participation dancing.

Performing concerts in the Midwest, the group is Illinois’ largest Swedish Children’s Chorus for ages 4-18.

At 5:00 pm enjoy live performances by the Geneva Park District’s Angels Cheer & Poms Team, the Geneva Gymnastics Academy, Playhouse 38 youth performers, and the Geneva Park District’s Sunset Dance Academy.

Immediately following will be the semifinalists from “Geneva’s Got Talent” performances. Geneva and the surrounding communities are bursting with emerging talent – everything from dancers, singers, jugglers, bands, magicians and more. The Geneva Park District is proud to join efforts with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce to produce a competition to showcase that talent! Grand Parade – Topping Off a Fabulous Week

The parade may look a little different this year, but the annual parade is still an eye and ear opening experience with marching bands, colorful floats, prancing horses, and extraordinary entertainers. Our Swedish Days parade culminates a week of fun, food and friends.

Marshaled by many volunteers and coordinated by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, the parade steps off at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 26, and winds through downtown Geneva.

The parade path starts from the high school area at Center Street and Anderson Boulevard and continues south on Anderson turning east onto State Street. In the center of town the march will continue south on Third Street and disband at the Metra train station.

This community parade is everything you want a parade to be. Local organizations and businesses,

floats, classic cars, music, performers and more.

Celebration Brass returns along with the traditional kilts and bagpipes of the Medinah Highlanders. Local favorites, the Crystal Lake Strikers Drumline will have you clapping along. In addition, the ever popular South Shore Drill Team will add to the elation.

Tumbling and leaping over everything will be the Jesse White Tumbling Team. Aurora Shriners and Lake County Shriners bring a little bit of everything to Geneva. And of course, our hometown parade would not be complete without the local Scout troops carrying a flag that spans half a block.

Hometown organizations, bands and businesses - the excitement is something you won’t want to miss.

Craft Brew Tent The Geneva Chamber of Commerce is proud to bring back the Craft Brew experience to Swedish Days, featuring locally crafted beers from Stockholm’s, Penrose Brewing Company, Art History Brewing & Obscurity Brewing and Craft Mead. Tickets for alcohol, sponsored by Dogtopia, may be purchased at the event.

Selections from Stockholm’s will include State Street Pilsner, a Northern German style Pilsner, easy drinking with a crisp finish (5.4% ABV ); Geneva Pale Ale (G.P.A.), an India Pale Ale (IPA) initial caramel sweetness turning to citrus and piney bitterness that lingers on the palate (6.8% ABV);Viking Red Ale, an Amber Ale very balanced flavors of creamy, sweet malt with a gentle hop finish (5.2% ABV); LoRazz Weiss, a full bouquet introduces this elegant wheat beer with raspberry tartness (5.4% ABV); Loki’s Pils, a light Pilsner brewed with Noble hops for a balanced, crisp finish (3.2% ABV); Valhalla, a seasonal light honey ale (of course this had to be at Swedish Days) and Stockholm’s Small Batch Root Beer, rich, sweet, and refreshing non-alcoholic root beer.

Obscurity Brewing & Craft Mead will offer five choices, including a non-alcoholic cold brew. Honey Wheat, a Honey Wheat Ale; LGBT, which is a blueberry golden ale, North Cider, for those cider lovers, this is a cherry cider and Hi Tea, session Mead with Kombucha and Hibiscus. They will also have non-alcoholic Nitro Coffee Cans, a Black Nitro Cold Brew Coffee.

This event will open on Wednesday, June 22 at 4 pm on James Street, just steps away from the Swedish Days excitement on Third Street, continuing through Sunday.
