Spring brings new ways to get active at the Senior Center
Spring has finally arrived, bringing warmer temperatures, longer days, and new opportunities to get active at the Lee County Council on Aging. With the change in seasons comes an exciting lineup of activities designed to keep seniors engaged, moving, and connected with their community.
Starting May 9, the Senior Center will introduce Bingocize, a unique blend of bingo and exercise. This fun, 25-minute program will take place every Monday and Friday at 9 a.m., offering participants a light, engaging workout while playing one of their

Employee of the Month
Our May Employee of the Month is Ken Whipple. Ken has been a WCPT driver for more than 5 years. Ken loves to spend time with his grandson, and cruise around town in
favorite games. It’s the perfect warm-up before the exercise bikes at 10 a.m. and a great way to kick off the morning before enjoying the free breakfast served at the Center.
For those who prefer a change of scenery while staying active, the Center is also launching The Walkie-Talkers, a walking group designed to explore the many walking paths Dixon has to offer. The group will meet at the Center at 10 a.m., providing an opportunity for seniors to enjoy fresh air, socialize, and discover new parts of the community together.
Staying active isn’t the only thing on the agenda this spring — the month of May is packed with events for every interest. On May 2 at 11 a.m., Dixon Rehab will host Family Feud, bringing a competitive and fun atmosphere to the Center. For those with a passion for travel, the Travel Club will meet on May 7 at 3 p.m. to discuss an upcoming 2026 Scotland and Ireland trip with Collette.
Bingo lovers won’t want to miss Bingo with Allure on May 9 at 10:30 a.m., and
anyone looking for a fun night out should mark their calendars for the 15th Annual Adult Prom on May 10. This highly anticipated event will include delicious appetizers, a grand march, and an evening of dancing. Early voting for Prom King and Queen is already open at the Center, and attendees will have a chance to cast their final votes during the event.
Other exciting events include Coffee with the Mayor on May 14 at 9 a.m., Wheel of Fortune on May 16 at 11 a.m., and The Price is Right, hosted by Heritage Square, on May 23 at 11 a.m. Later that afternoon, the Help at Home team will celebrate May birthdays at 12:30 p.m. with cake and festivities.
Dr. Madion Sudaj from OSF Audiology will visit the Lee County Council on Aging on Wednesday, May 14, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. During her visit, she will offer free hearing aid checks and cleanings to anyone in need of assistance. This is a great opportunity for those with hearing aids to ensure every -
thing is working properly and to ask any questions they may have. While you’re at the Center, be sure to stop by and see Lydia, who can help you sign up for a free cell phone or landline phone with closed captions —an excellent option for those who experience hearing loss and want to stay connected with loved ones more easily. This event is free and open to the public, and no appointment is necessary.
Another important addition to the Center’s monthly calendar is the Caregiver Support Group, sponsored by Serenity Hospice & Home. This group will meet at 2 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month and is open to anyone providing care for a loved one. It’s a space for support, shared experiences, and helpful resources for those navigating the challenges of caregiving. This group is for caregivers and loved ones, and the group will decide how it will evolve. Please join us!
See you soon ...
