At the Whiteside County Senior Center ...

Healthy habits are essential to live your life to the fullest. MOLLY AND DEVON ARE STARTING A NEW PROGRAM TO EDUCATE AND INFLUENCE HEALTHY HABITS IN SENIORS. This class will be every Tuesday in June at 9 a.m.

OUR FREE MEAL WILL BE FRIDAY, JUNE 13, AT

NOON. We are partnering with The Regional Office of Education to help stock their school supply closet, so please bring an item such as markers, colored pencils or crayons, pencils, dry erase markers, pens, notebooks, glue sticks, folders, or zippered binders as a donation for your meal! After the meal, we will have birthday cake provided by Citadel of Sterling and karaoke! See you then!

Our first Veterans Breakfast of the year was a hit! We had 60 Veterans as well as many spouses and volunteers! Thank you to OnCall Imaging in Rock Falls for being our sponsor! Our next Veterans Breakfast will be Friday, June 13, at 9 a.m., sponsored by Castor Home Nursing.

GOLDEN ECHO

From the LCCOA Executive

Thank you!!

The Lee County Council on Aging extends heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals and organizations whose generous donations are helping us grow—literally and figuratively. Thanks to the local Garden Club, our grounds are now beautifully landscaped, creating a more welcoming environment for everyone who visits. A generous grant from the Etnyre Foundation has enabled us to purchase new computers. We’ve also acquired portable office equipment to better serve communities throughout Lee County. At the recent D8 Summit Charities, funds raised will directly

benefit our vital nutrition programs, ensuring that no senior goes hungry. Thanks to Ken Nelson, Value Lab and Dixon Rehab for sponsoring the Adult Prom. Last, but by no means least, thanks to the Dixon Lioness’ generous donation, and all of our members. These acts of kindness are powerful reminders that when we come together, we can truly enrich lives.

Summer kicks off with

community,

connection, and celebration at LCCOA

There’s a buzz in the air at the Lee County Council on Aging as we get ready to welcome you to one of our biggest events of the season: The Senior Fair and Open House, on Monday, June 24, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Whether you’re a long-time visitor or someone who’s been meaning to stop by, this is the perfect time to swing in and see everything LCCOA has to offer. The building will be full of activity, with booths from community partners, health screenings, give-

Employee of the Month

Erin Sharp is our Employee of the Month! She has worked as a dispatcher for Whiteside County Public Transportation for a year and a half. She will be getting married in 2026, has two bonus children, and loves to ride her motor-

cycle. There is always a smile in her voice and is willing to help out at the drop of a hat. Thank you for your hard work!

Board meeting

We want to thank everyone on our Board of Directors! All of the members on our board are volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules to help better our Senior Center and Public Transportation. The next board meeting is June 25, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. in the dining room. See you then!

Press releases of interest to seniors will be accepted at 100 W. Second St., Dixon, IL 61021; or 1207 W. Ninth St., Sterling, IL 61081. Deadline for submission is the 15th of each month.

aways, and staff ready to answer questions or show you around. Grab a snack, meet new friends, and find out about the services that could make a big difference in your life, or the life of someone you love.

We believe aging well starts with staying informed and staying connected, and this event is all about that. So mark your calendar, invite a neighbor, and come celebrate the strength and spirit of Lee County’s senior community with us!

Can’t make it to Dixon? Don’t worry, we’re coming to you. Starting this summer, LCCOA will be setting up shop around the county each month, bringing vital services to Paw Paw, Franklin Grove, Amboy, and Ashton libraries.

You’ll find us at the following libraries:

Paw Paw – First Wednesday of the month, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at 362 Chicago Road

Franklin Grove – Second Wednesday , 10 a.m.7 p.m., at 112 S. Elm St. Amboy – Third Wednesday, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at 3 S. Jefferson Ave.

Ashton – Third Wednesday, 2-6:30 p.m., at 704 N. First St.

You will also find us at Countryside Manor the first Tuesday of the month and at the High Rise on the fourth Tuesday of the month, from 1-4 p.m.

And there’s more to look forward to …

In July, we’re thrilled to host Dr. Tom Wadsworth for a special presentation on Billy Sunday’s 1905 Revival in Dixon, a truly remarkable piece of local history. Did you know over 150,000 people came to hear Billy preach, and a 3,300-seat wooden tabernacle once stood right where the Senior Center is today? Don’t miss this free event on Tuesday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at the Center.

At LCCOA, we’re always working to bring people together and make life just a little brighter. We hope to see you soon — whether it’s at the Senior Fair, at a satellite site, or simply stopping in to say hello.

See you soon ...
