Aneela Qureshi started at WCSC as a volunteer with the food pantry, and has been a part of the Outreach department since October 2023. She is always happy to listen to your needs, help with Medicare or any other services people may need, or just to offer a warm smile and a
noon of smiles and good cheer. Admission is by free-will donation, with proceeds supporting senior programs across Lee County.
LCCOA continues its strong focus on senior nutrition with several programs offered throughout the week:
• Fresh produce Tuesdays deliver fruits and vegetables directly to the Senior Center each Tuesday, providing seniors easy access to healthy food.
• The Senior Community Garden is thriving this season, with volunteers helping water, tend to, and harvest crops that are shared with those in need.
• Lifescape lunches are available Monday through Friday at noon, offering hot, well-balanced meals for a suggested donation of $3.
• For seniors preferring to dine at home , Take & Warm meals provided by OSF HealthCare are distributed every Tuesday and Thursday at
friendly greeting. Fun fact: Aneela actually has degree in meteorology! She is especially passionate about making sure everyone is safe during bad weather, and will occasionally give talks about weather here at the Center. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her husband and their two cats, collecting colorful skirts, and knitting.
Thank you to Woody’s Popcorn, in Sterling, for sponsoring our Employee Spotlight!!
We want to thank everyone on our Board of Directors! All of the members on our board are volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules to help better our Senior Center and Public Transportation. The next

In addition to nutrition programs, LCCOA is offering a mix of educational and historical presentations this August.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 1 p.m., speaker Tom Wadsworth will return to the Senior Center by popular demand with “Dixon’s Darkest Day.” The one-hour presentation revisits the tragic 1873 bridge collapse in Dixon, known as the worst road bridge disaster in American history. Wadsworth’s talk includes rare photographs, research, and artifacts, making it a compelling event for history enthusiasts.
LCCOA is also launching a Healthy Aging series in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension. Presented by educator Kara Schweitzer, the free four-part series begins Tuesday, Aug. 26, and continues monthly on the fourth Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Topics include:
board meeting will be Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m. in the dining room. See you then!
Golden Meals is a local non-profit organization that provides $3.25 meals to our 60-plus senior community and $6.25 for our 59-and-younger community, Monday through Thursday at our site.
