OUTREACH Medicare news from the Outreach Dept.

Medicare Open Enrollment period and appointments

Both WCSC and LCCOA Outreach Departments are prioritizing Open Enrollment appointments during this period that runs until Dec 7. If you require an appointment for other Outreach services during this season, we will do our best to accommodate other appointment needs, and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to help every individual. Due to COVID19, both LCCOA and WCSC’s comparison processes and appointments will look different from last year. We know that, despite these new challenges, we will still be able to assist many of you as we have in the past. Please call WCSC Outreach at 815-6229230 Ext. 194, or LCCOA Outreach at 815-288-9236, for any questions or to discuss details on how appointments are handled.

Contacting 1-800-MEDICARE

While both centers have SHIP certified staff to compare Part-D and Medicare Advantage Plans, you may find that our comparison appointments book up fast! If you call LCCOA or WCSC and you find that we are booked up for the season, or if you are in need of a comparison right away, you do have the option of contacting 1-800-MEDICARE to conduct a comparison by phone with a Medicare representative 24 hrs a day/7 days a week. If you contact 1-800-MEDICARE directly, you will need to have a list of your medications handy, along with your red, white, and blue Medicare card.

Medicare supplement (Medigap) plan comparisons

If you are wanting to compare Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans this season, keep in mind that you can change your Medigap plan at any time during the year, and you are not limited by the Open Enrollment Period unless you are 64 years of age or younger and on Medicare due to disability. Also keep in mind, that if you are not newly eligible to Medicare, companies can turn you down for coverage due to pre-existing conditions, unless that company is a “guaranteed issue” company. There is an extremely helpful guide that you can access online through the SHIP program on the Illinois Department on Aging (IDOA) website at https:// www2.illinois.gov/aging/ship/Documents/NorthernCentralMedSupWeb. pdf, or if you are in need of a paper Medigap guide, please contact the WCSC or LCCOA Outreach Departments.
