GOLDEN ECHO: WCSC

By Susie Welch October happenings at LCCOA October is going to be a fun month at the Lee County Council on Aging, and I hope you’ll join us! Along with all of our regular activities, we have several special events planned throughout the month. Whether you stop in for a class, lunch, a game with friends, or one of our special programs, you’ll always find a friendly face and a warm welcome. We’re pleased to offer Free Hearing Screenings on Oct 1, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Audiologist Madison Sudaj from the Wallace Center for Hearing will be at the Center pro-

From the WCSC Executive Director By Emily Hammer Board meeting We would like to thank everyone on our Board of Directors! All of the members on our board are volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules to help better our Senior Center. The next Board meet-

viding hearing screenings. This is a wonderful opportunity to have your hearing checked and ask questions about your hearing health. Also on Thursday, October 1, at 2:30 p.m., if you or someone you know is getting ready for Medicare, don’t miss our Welcome to Medicare class. It’s a great opportunity to learn about your Medicare benefits and get your questions answered before enrolling. We’re excited to host our very first Houseplant Exchange on Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m.! If you enjoy indoor plants, join us for an afternoon of sharing and learning. Bring a healthy houseplant, rooted cutting, or rooted division to exchange with someone else. We’ll also have an “Ask the Gardener” discussion where you can learn tips about caring for houseplants and keeping your indoor plants healthy. We hope this becomes a fun new tradition each fall. We’re excited to welcome back

Tom Wadsworth on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. as he presents “The Battle for the Castle,” the fascinating story behind the building of Dixon’s stunning high school. Tom’s presentations are always entertaining, educational, and full of local history you won’t want to miss. Out Writers Group will meet immediately after Tom’s presentation. On Friday, October 23rd at 10:30 am, join us for Video Bingo, featuring Broadway Movie Musicals! We’ll combine the fun of bingo with some of your favorite songs and scenes from Broadway musicals that made their way to the big screen. Come enjoy the music, test your knowledge, and have some fun with friends! Join us for our Fifth Friday Celebration when our friends from Addus HomeCare host the fun game, Left, Right & Center, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. Plan on a morning filled with laughter, friendly competition, and fellowship. We hope you’ll come join

the fun! Looking ahead to the holidays As we enjoy the fall season, we’re also preparing for one of our favorite holiday traditions: our annual Santa’s Workshop, which will be held on Saturday, Dec.. 12, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Throughout October and November, we’re collecting new or gently used gifts for children to purchase for the special people in their lives, including moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and other loved ones. We’re also looking for volunteers to help organize donations before the event and wrap gifts during Santa’s Workshop. Your generosity helps make Christmas a little brighter for local families. We hope you’ll join us this October! If you have any questions or would like more information, give us a call at 815-288-9236. See you soon, Susie
