May blooms with fun at LCCOA
May is blooming with excitement and fun at the Lee County Council on Aging, and the month is packed with opportunities to celebrate, connect, and enjoy some delicious treats!
The festivities kick off on Friday, May 1, at 12:30 p.m. with May Day Treats for all. Join us for all your favorite monthly celebrations, including the Birthday Celebration, sponsored by Healthcare Plus and a lively round of The Price is Right, sponsored by Heritage Woods. Laughter, prizes, and plenty of smiles are guaranteed. Also in May: Refill Your Cup workshop, sponsored by Addus on May 19 at 2 p.m.

Cookout and bake sale
The excitement continues into the weekends at the Lee County Council on Aging! On Saturday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Board of Directors will be on hand at the County Market parking lot for a special fundraiser. In addition, our senior citizens will be leading a bake sale, offering a variety of delicious homemade treats for all to enjoy. Stop by to enjoy a pork chop sandwich cooked fresh on the grill, and indulge in Miss Mary’s pecan pie. This is a wonderful opportunity to support the programs that serve seniors throughout the year while enjoying great food and connecting with the community. (Please note: All seniors should have their baked goods at the Center on Friday, May 1, no later than 3 p.m.)
Adult prom
Later in the month, on Saturday, May 9, from 6-11 p.m., we invite you to our Adult Prom. Enjoy appetizers, music, dancing, and the much-anticipated Prom King and Queen contest. Community members can vote for
their favorites through donations, making it both fun and meaningful. This year’s candidates include Tina Maldonado, Sharon Wilson, Wayne Wilson, Judi and Phil Callison, and Terry Christian, with the option to join late at the door. Don’t miss the chance to nominate and vote for your favorite individuals!
Mother’s Day
Treat yourself to a day of well-deserved pampering at our Mother’s Day event on May 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.! This free event is dedicated to senior mothers and grandmothers, offering a chance to relax, unwind, and feel appreciated. Enjoy personalized pampering services designed to help you look and feel your best. Appointments are limited, so be sure to schedule yours today!

Our regular monthly health services continue as well. The Lee County Health Department will be at the Center every fourth Monday from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for blood pressure checks, and Fancy Feet provides toe -
nail trimming every fourth Tuesday. Appointments are required — please call Deb at 815-213-0324 to schedule. It’s pecan pie time!
This year, May has five Fridays, so Mary and Susie are planning something extra special: delicious pecan pies for all! Be sure to come hungry because this is one afternoon you won’t want to miss.

Golden Meals
Golden Meals is a local non-profit organization that provides $3.25 meals to our 60-plus senior community and $6.25 for our 59-and-younger community, Monday through Thursday at our site. Please watch the menu calendar as they will also be providing meals on select Fridays. The Golden Meals calendar will be posted on our Facebook page and sent out in our monthly member’s newsletter. Caregiver tip
Caregiving is rewarding but stressful. For most caregivers, caring for a loved one feels good and it can make a relationship stronger. But the demands of caregiving also cause emotional and physical stress. It’s common to feel alone, angry, frustrated, or sad. Caregiver stress can put caregivers at risk of changes in their own health. If you would like information about our caregiver support group, please reach out to 815622-9230 for more information.

Residency or citizenship may be a requirement for other programs that the senior centers may provide assistance with in application or accessing of same.
