By Susie Welch Thanks to this wonderful community, we have so much fun in store for you this February with new activities at the Center.

We will start on February 1 by having yet another decorating party! Cookies by Farm Girl Bakery will be served as we transform the Center with hearts and shades of red. If you’re not a decorator, we will still need help with organizational skills to help sort through Valentine decorations. The party starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. Feel free to stop by anytime to lend a hand. Thank you, Farm Girl Bakery, for this wonderful donation.

But that’s not all! Our own Brandan will be leading a group of interested seniors in a tour of Lee County breakfast shops once a month. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and what a great way to get out into our community and make new friends.

RSVP is required — stop by and speak to the receptionist or call 815288-9236 to reserve your spot for breakfast. Our first meeting location will be revealed to you when you RSVP. The next location will be picked by the group that day, so you won’t want to miss! The only requirement is you must be a senior and be responsible for your own bill and transportation (If you need a ride, give Marisa a call). The Breakfast Club will meet on Feb 23 at 9 a.m. Stop by the Center afterwards and play the Price is Right.

It saddens us to say that our funding for meals has ended. We are working to bring on new funding sources and resources, so stay tuned. In the meantime, please remember we always have the coffee pot on and water available. Meet your friends at the Center for coffee chats in our cozy snack bar area.

We have added a self-service pop refrigerator as a fundraiser for some much-needed accessibility repairs around the center. These funds will be used for high-rise toilets and accessible flooring on our first floor.

Besides our weekly activities of card groups, exercise groups and crafting group, we are adding a weekly Bible Study beginning on February 13 at 10 a.m., led by Pastor Tim Mitchell and Associate Pastor Young Sun Lee from Dixon First UMC. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends with like-minded interest.

We will be having a special Valentines Bingo on February 14 at 9 a.m. All participants dressed in red will receive a special prize.

serve birthday cake to celebrate all our seniors and staff with February birthdays. This monthly activity is being sponsored by the Centers Board Chairwoman, Dianne Frye. It wouldn’t be a birthday party without music. Dixon resident, Melissa McCullough, has graciously offered to sing “Happy Birthday” and lead us in a little Karaoke Fun! Cake and karaoke to start at 10:30 a.m.

A big thanks to Work on it Landscaping for snow removal this past month, and especially for giving us a senior discount! We also want to thank the volunteers who have come in to help us declutter, recycle, sort, file, serve meals, make phone calls and just help us be able to conduct business. You really lift our spirits along with those you touch with your hard work.

FALL PREVENTION

Bingo and exercise: Safety in numbers STERLING — What do you get when you combine Bingo and exercise?

You get Bingocize, and you also get a fun, new way to be more active and help prevent falls.

The CGH Health Foundation Dementia Project and Lifescape are teaming up to bring a 10-week Bingocize program to local residents that will combine Bingo with fall prevention exercises and techniques.

The free class is for ages 60 and over, and will run from 10-10:30 a.m. Mondays and Fridays, Feb. 12 through April 19, in the Community Room at the CGH Health Foundation, 2900 Locust St. Snacks will be provided.

Class size is limited, so people are encouraged to register early.
