This month we especially honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, those who have served, and those who are currently serving our country! The Senior Center will be closed Nov 11 to observe Veterans Day.
We handed out 600 free turkeys this year for Thanksgiving. Thank you to Riverbend Food Bank for the turkey delivery! WCSC hopes everyone enjoys family, friends, and good eats this year for Thanksgiving! The Senior Center will be closed Nov. 28 & 29 for Thanksgiving.
Our last two trips of the month are quickly approaching! See the “Upcoming Trips” on page XX for our destinations. Spots are quickly filling up, so please get your name on the list as soon as possible! Keep an eye out for our trips for 2025!
Turkey, stuffing, corn, and pie! We will be having one holiday meal this year to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas together! I want to give a huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who spend a lot of time to plan, prepare and serve our meals. I also want to thank all of the patrons who participate in our 50/50 raffle — we donate profits from the raffle to United Way of Whiteside County. Open
Enrollment is in full swing! It started Oct. 15. If you have not made an appointment with our Outreach Department to make sure your insurance needs are met, now is the time to do so!
2025 memberships are available for purchase! We have gift certificates available if you would like to give a loved one a membership to the Senior Center!

GOLDEN ECHO From the LCCOA Executive
Director
By Susie Welch
Don’t let the weather keep you cooped up
The weather is beginning to change, and outside activities are coming to an end. Instead of trapping yourself in your home this winter, we invite you to come to the Center. As we age, socialization is as important as exercise and a healthy diet. Social isolation and loneliness have been linked to not only increased risk of dementia, but a raft of other physical and mental conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and depression. Lee County Council on Aging offers a wide range of options to provide

Employee of the Month
Our October Employee of the Month is Molly Helms, our Food Pantry Specialist. Molly has worked at the Center since October 2023. Molly’s favorite thing about the Food Pantry is the dedication from the volunteers to help better our community while serving those in need. She has worked with senior citizens her entire life. Molly loves to cook, clean, and she successfully
exercise, healthy meal choices and social opportunities. All rides to the Center are FREE using public transportation through the Center or Reagan Mass Transit.
An exciting November
We have an exciting line-up for November starting with the introduction of Family Feud on Friday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m., sponsored by Dixon Rehab. But don’t forget about Bingo Friday, Nov. 8, at 10:30 a.m., Wheel of Fortune on Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. and The Price is Right on Nov. 22 at 11 a.m.. All Friday’s lunches are free for the month of November. Monday, Nov. 4, we will have a caregiver workshop, provided by the Extension Office, that will cover the challenges and strategies that come with caring for someone with dementia. The workshop starts at 12:30 p.m. in our dining area, and Dixon Rehab will provide an activity in our game room for the caregiver’s loved one. On Wednesday Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. we start our
monthly Workout Wednesdays, with Cheryl Moeller. This exercise platform will be different than our chair yoga with Brandan Lumzy on Mondays at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, or Brandan’s exercise bikes on Monday and Friday mornings from 10-11 a.m. Come on Wednesday Nov. 20, at 9 a.m. for coffee and donuts with the mayor, and stay for Bible Study. Bible Study comes back on a weekly basis starting Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. Pastor Rosa Lee from Dixon Grace United Methodist Church will be leading a six-week study.
Fun is in the cards
Our new Euchre class will continue for the month of November, starting at 10:30 a.m. We are looking to bring new card games but need a senior leader to lead the group. If you have a favorite card game, volunteer to share your talent! We currently have Rummikub on Mondays at 1 p.m., Farkle on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., Crafters on Thursday at 1
p.m., along with Euchre at 12:15 p.m., and Mexican Train Dominoes at 1 p.m. on Fridays.
Want to lend a hand?
With the holidays fast approaching, we are looking for volunteers to help us decorate the Center on Nov. 18 for our second annual Deck the Halls party. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served. We will start at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day, breaking at noon to celebrate the Executive Director’s oneyear anniversary with a free senior lunch and cupcakes. All those 60 years and over are welcome to join and stay to help finish up with decorations. This year the Center will have a Memorial Tree. For a $5 donation, you can write the name of a loved one no longer with us on an ornament that will be displayed on the tree.
Remember, getting into the Center has become even easier with free bus rides from your home in Lee County to the Center.
grew a sunflower field in her backyard this past summer — working on her green thumb! In her free time, her favorite thing to do is to cheer on her three children, ages 2, 5 and 13, at their activities and sporting events. Thank you Molly for making a difference in our community!
Board Meeting
We want to thank everyone on our Board of Directors! All of the members on our board are volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules to help better our Senior Center and Public Transportation. On Nov. 20, our Board Meeting will be held at 12:30 p.m., in the Senior Center dining room. We hope to see you there!
