70th Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Willard Simpson 70th Anniversary card shower planned
Willard and Maxine Simpson were married Dec. 22, 1946, in Fairfield, Illinois. The couple moved in 1948 to Lee County, where they raised a family and farmed together for more than 50 years, retiring in 2000. Their children include Darrell (Barbara) Simpson of Franklin Grove; Darla (Peter) Hall of Nashville, Tennessee; and Dale Simpson and Douglas Simpson (both deceased).
They enjoy doting on nine grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. Volunteering and leading, they faithfully serve their church and local community. Maxine’s famous doughnuts and cinnamon rolls have been a fundraiser favorite, and she produced hundreds of batches over the years. Willard is a World War II veteran and active member of his local
American Legion Post 497. They enjoy playing cards with friends, dining out and listening to live bluegrass music. The couple renewed their vows in 1996 on their 50th anniversary and celebrated 70 years together with a cross-country train trip to California earlier this year.
