Les Otten
Les was born Nov. 13, 1914, to Henry and Flora Otten. He was raised on a farm near Como with his four siblings. He attended Sterling schools graduating in 1933 from Sterling High School. He married Evelyn Musser on June 10, 1936, and had one daughter, Lila Jo. Evelyn passed in 2005, and Lila Jo in 2007.
Les was employed by General Electric Co. in Morrison for many years. After retiring, he and Evelyn traveled and helped raise their two grandchildren, Donnie Montgomery and Lisa (Montgomery) Cantu. In 1987 they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. There, Les worked at the Daytona Speedway.
He enjoyed riding his bicycle on trips as long as 26 miles. In 2007, he moved to Arkansas to live with his granddaughter. Les has five great-grandchildren. He would enjoy hearing from friends. Cards may be sent to Les Otten, 2701 Twin Rivers Courtyard Gardens, Arkadelphia, Arkansas 71923.

Share those special memories with Celebrations Celebrations features weddings, engagements, anniversaries, and other happy news, such as birthdays, reunions, and fouror five-generation photos. As a special way to preserve these memorable occasions, quarter-, halfor full-page announcements can be purchased. Paid announcements are determined by word count: no more than 125 words for a quarter page, no more than 250 words for a half page, and up to 340 words for a full page. Those paying for announcements will have the opportunity to proof them before publication. Customers will be called when the announcement is ready to be proofed. At that time, any corrections or additions can be made as needed at SVM’s Dixon and Sterling offices. For convenience, proofs will be emailed without calls whenever possible. Photos may be submitted in color or black and white, and in any size.
Emailed photos should be in JPEG format with a resolution of 200 and a width of at least 5 inches for best quality. All announcements can be printed without photos if desired. Celebration forms are available at the Telegraph and Daily Gazette classified departments or by email. Sauk Valley Media is not responsible for errors due to unreadable information. A daytime phone number and email address (if available) are requested to help to insure accuracy. Weddings are available in basic (free) form (one photo of the couple), quarter-page paid (one photo), half-page paid (two photos), and full-page paid (up to four photos). The wedding form should be returned preferably within 2 to 4 months after the wedding date. Engagements are available in basic (free) form (one photo of the couple), two styles of quarter-page paid (one photo only),
half-page paid (two photos), and full-page paid (up to four photos). Anniversary announcements are available in the basic (free) form (one current photo, no older than 5 years), quarter-page paid (one or two photos), halfpage paid (two photos), and full-page paid (up to four photos). Announcements beginning with the 25th anniversary, and then in 5-year increments up to 60 years, can be at no charge. Other increments will require a paid announcement. Anniversaries of 70 years and more are at no charge in a paid format; the announcement size will be determined by the editor. After 60th-year anniversaries, SVM will publish free announcements, without special wording, without the 5-year increment restriction. Birthday announcements for area seniors 80 years of age and older can be at no charge without
special wording. There is a charge for those younger than 80. The basic (free) form (one current photo), quarter-page paid (one or two photos), half-page paid (two photos), and fullpage paid (up to four photos) are available. For 100th and older birthdays, SVM will publish free announcements in a paid format; the announcement size will be determined by the editor. Reunions are for area residents who are gathering, or have gathered, for a family or class reunion. Reunion items will be edited due to space limitations, and lists of all those attending are not available in the free format. Photos also are not available for a free announcement, but can be used in any of the paid announcements. If a large group photo is submitted, only one can be used in the quarter-page format, one
photo is recommended in the half-page format, and up to four normally can be used in the fullpage format. Large group photos with long lists of names may require at least a half-page paid announcement. Note: A group photo for a class reunion only can be submitted at no charge for the Scrapbook page of SV Weekend by email to photos@saukvalley.com or in person. For publication in Celebrations, class reunions of 70 years and more will be available in the quarterpage format at no charge, with a photo allowed. Five-generation and four-generation photos with names, relationships, and places of residence of those pictured may be submitted for publication. Multiple photos from the same submitter will need to be on a paid basis. Generation announcements are, of course, available on a paid (custom)
basis in quarter-page (one photo), half-page (two photos), and full-page (up to four photos) form. Other celebrations include retirements, promotions, awards, honors, baptisms, confirmations, baby’s arrival (able to contain more information than standard birth announcements, along with a photo), and other occasions. COLLINSVILLE. (AP) – Kimmy Anderson and Nick Nasti love nature, animals and the outdoors. What better place to get hitched than a farm? The Belleville couple exchanged wedding vows at Willoughby Heritage Farm in Collinsville, surrounded by tall trees and blue skies. They danced the night away in a big red barn. Guests sipped cocktails next to pens of roosters, goats, and pigs, and roasted marshmallows over a fire. One-year-old Jameson Hebert got his first look at rabbits. “He keeps calling them dogs,” his father, Patrick Hebert, 30, said. “That’s like the only word he
knows.” Patrick and his wife, Allison, flew from Magnolia, Texas, for the fall wedding. Like many guests, they wore cowboy boots. Family friend, Mary Farrell, 51, of Palatine, went all-Western in a denim skirt, lace top, black cowboy hat, turquoise accessories and boots with peacock stitching. “She probably spent a year shopping for this outfit,” said her boyfriend, Scott Origer. “Doesn’t she look good?” Willoughby is owned by Collinsville Area Recreation District, which uses it to teach visitors about rural life in the early 1900s. People can stroll through a vegetable garden or hike on wooded trails.
The farm also has become a popular venue for weddings and other private events, such as birthday, graduation and anniversary parties. Renters have access to the farmhouse, barns, picnic shelter, and other amenities. “We had a wedding here yesterday with a samesex couple,” said CARD employee Tim Childers, 31, of Collinsville. “They wanted a small, quiet affair, just close friends and family. And then we’ve had groups with 1,000 people. They bring in bus loads.” One Cajun-themed wedding included a crawfish boil. Some couples grill burgers and brats.
