Engaging with the Community
While many members seek out the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce for traditional business networking opportunities, the role of the Chamber continues to expand beyond the typical business-to-business connections.
Located on the Chamber’s website, the “Community” button provides an easy link to city government, educational programming and non-profit organizations. Housed in a single, easy-to-navigate website location, visitors can find information on local leadership and events, as well as discover opportunities for community service, donations and much more.
Another example of the Chamber’s expanding role can be seen in the various partnerships the Chamber has built with local organizations. For example, the partnership between the Chamber and the St. Charles Public Library has proven to be a success,

“Our Business Service Librarian is very active partnering up with the Chamber to put together joint programming,” Library Director Edith G. Craig says. “For example, members of the business community visit the library for materials to assist with marketing, including use of its multiple databases.”
She adds that partnering with the Chamber and the greater business community is such an important component that it is a part of the library’s mission statement.
Another key community partnership is between the Chamber and the City of St. Charles. Meetings between the City and Chamber leadership provide opportunities for collaborations on events and programs, shared marketing and an easy way to communicate concerns and issues as they arise.
“Keeping open communication is key to the partnership between the St. Charles City leaders and the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce,” says City Administrator Mark Koenen. “The City and the Chamber have a history of being partners.

Koenen adds that the Chamber serves as a voice of the business community and provides an important resource as it represents the interests of the business community and provides feedback that City leadership can use in making decisions.
The Chamber also assists the City by helping connect those seeking information from the Chamber with the proper City department or staff member, who are then able to provide answers to questions, resources, or information. This ability to provide direction can help save valuable time and is another demonstration of the great partnerships that exist to help promote economic growth.
Koenen adds that “the Chamber demonstrates its commitment to keeping state and national legislators informed on the community-wide interests through the talks and meetings it has hosted. These face-to-face meetings are a valuable resource and demonstrate another great community partnership.”
