Our history sets us apart from other communities with a downtown dating back to the building of the Illinois & Michigan Canal with stories of yesteryear that would intrigue even the novice history buff
As the Canal was being built, newly immigrated Irish, German, and Scandinavians, along with French and English laborers came looking to the area for a new life While digging the canal, dolomite limestone was discovered that led to the development of the stone quarries This became one of the chief building materials used in many landmark buildings, including the Chicago Water Tower, Holy Name Cathedral, and the Illinois Capitol Building in Springfield.
Now you can explore the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area, a 100acre nature park to hike, bike, picnic, bird watch, boat and fish with a 6-mile crushed stone marked trail Take a guided tour of the quarry area in the spring or fall with the Lemont Historical Society Call 630257-2972 for available dates and times

After your tour, experience the flavors and flair in our many oneof-akind restaurants ready for any palate Mingle with the locals at our mix of longtime taverns and pubs Shop in our distinctive boutiques and quaint shops nestled with late 19th century buildings And, if you’re up for it, head over to The Forge: Lemont Quarries for climbing and ziplining or grab a craft beer at Pollyanna Brewing Company Enjoy all we have to offer

First, I’d like to thank those who exercised their right to vote on April 4, 2023 I am honored to become not only the Village of Homer Glen’s fourth Mayor but the first female mayor in 22 years since its inception
I aim to draw on my 14 years of experience as an elected official, my 32 years of residency, and my love for the village to help move Homer Glen forward with integrity and positivity
The information in this guide will give you a snapshot of our vibrant community and vision I encourage you to take advantage of all that Homer Glen offers – our many parks, events, and recreational opportunities; convenient retail shopping with a mix of big brand names and local businesses, restaurants, and services; and local farms with attractions and fresh produce
Homer Glen residents are attracted to the open space, gently rolling hills, wooded forest preserves, natural environment, farm fields, and stately housing developments. We are set apart and unique from our surrounding communities
As a young village, we have so many opportunities Still, we want to be careful and mindful when making decisions on the future of our village We want to meet the needs of a growing community while keeping the village’s “Community and Nature in Harmony” at the heart of that growth “You Know You’re Home” was adopted as our tagline in 2020 due to the village’s unique
style and separation from our surrounding communities We plan to stay that way
To help with this growth and ensure our autonomy, we are working on updating our intergovernmental agreements with Homer Township, Lockport, and New Lenox
To assist with future projects, the village is looking at ways to ensure we are taking advantage of all funding opportunities and minimizing the impact on taxpayers We are also looking for ways to ensure residents receive important, accurate information in a timely manner With our village taking control of its own destiny, we need both positions working hand in hand with the Mayor and Board
To establish connections between existing paths and improve non-vehicular accessibility throughout the village, plans are moving forward for extending our bike paths A recent ordinance passed allows residents to use permitted golf carts on any village street with a speed limit of 30mph or less Golf carts can cross at intersections, stop signs, and street lights Please be careful while driving! The Village Board is working together to make the much-needed changes for the betterment of our future while maintaining our rustic charm and character
We encourage you to take advantage of all Homer Glen has to offer Do not hesitate to reach out with questions and become involved in your community After all, we are all neighbors in one community working together
Homer Glen is a young village, rich in robust agricultural history and full of opportunity. Twenty-two square miles of gently rolling hills, wooded forest preserves, distinctive residential developments, and plenty of open land make the area unique.
We encourage you to take advantage of our beautiful parks, community events, recreational opportunities, convenient retail shopping and dining, local farm attractions, and fresh produce.
Whether looking for a place to visit, live, or build a business, we invite you to come home to Homer Glen.

Incorporated in 2001, Homer Glen is one of the newest communities in northeast Illinois As a young municipality, the village strives to make smart decisions about development, keeping the “Community and Nature in Harmony” at the heart of that growth
Homer Glen is currently home to a diverse mix of small businesses and nationally recognized brands
The convenience of the 143rd Street/Bell Road business district makes it a primary shopping area for residents of Homer Glen and neighboring communities. Shoppers will find two big box home improvement stores, three major grocers, local and national chain eateries, and dozens of other retail, service, banking, and personal care businesses
Homer Glen’s welcoming business environment has even attracted two multi-state companies headquartered in the village While the village has experienced development over the years, its rural heritage still shines with several agritourism businesses Pumpkin farms offering events and attractions are a huge regional draw Beautiful garden centers, farm stands, and horse farms also attract people from near and far Some other unique businesses in Homer Glen include rural lifestyle retail, art glass design, landscape design, custom home builders, and home improvement contractors
Looking ahead, a second central business corridor along 159th Street, which was widened to four lanes a few years ago and includes an I-355 interchange, is primed to be the economic engine for the community. The five-mile corridor has hundreds of acres awaiting strategic development
The future has a lot of what ifs, and it’s a good feeling to have someone in your corner and around the corner to help you plan for them. Call
