ANNUAL BOLINGBROOK EVENTS

he village of Bolingbrook celebrates its residents, its heritage through most of the year.

From Black History Month in February to Festival of Lights in November there are numerous celebrations of culture, faith and community. Here is a listing of events for 2020 in Bolingbrook.

Winterfest, Saturday, February 8, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – Annerino Community Center (201 Recreation Dr.) Outdoor activities include snow painting, snowball slingshot, family friendly games and fire pit. Indoor activities include climbing wall, ninja obstacle course, family friendly games, family photo station, food vendors and more Black History Month, Saturday, February 9 starting at 2 p.m. at Bolingbrook High School: annual social event that raises awareness about the history of Black Americans.

“Bolingbrook’s Got Talent” Saturday, March 7. Hosted

by Midwest Christian Montessori Academy at the Bolingbrook Community Center, 201 Canterbury Lane, Suite A, Bolingbrook. 2 p.m. (doors open at 1:30).

There will be a silent auction, raffle baskets and food at the event. Businesses are welcome to become a sponsor or donate items to be auctioned.

Week of the Young Child, Sunday, April 26-Friday, May 1 at various park district and village locations. This week-long, FREE event has lots of exciting and fun activities for the whole family!

Cavalcade of Planes, June 6 & 7, at Bolingbrook’s Clow International Airport, marks the official start of festival season in Bolingbrook.

Piyesta Pinoy, Saturday June 13, at Town Center, 375 W. Briarcliff Rd., a day that celebrates Filipino food, culture and music.

Nature Fest, Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Hidden Oaks Nature Center, 419 Trout Farm Rd. Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Hidden Oaks Nature Center being open with the very first Nature

Fest! The whole family can connect with nature for free with games and activities that span across the entire conservation area.

Annual Village Picnic, June 28, at Town Center, 375 W. Briarcliff Rd., is an opportunity for non-profits and community groups to bring awareness about themselves and their work to residents.

4th of July Extravaganza at the Bolingbrook Golf Club is an all-day, village-sponsored affair that includes golf, a family picnic, kids’ activities, a beer garden, food vendors and of course evening fireworks.

Taste of Bolingbrook, Saturday, August 8, is the annual food festival sponsored by the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce. The all-day festival includes live musical performances, street magicians, kids activities and of course food.

Bolingbrook Jubilee, August 14, 15 and 16, is a three-day event at the Town Center featuring musical performances, craft show, classic cars, bingo tent, the traditional carnival and midway, food vendors and beer tent.

Parkie’s Famous 5K/10K & Kids Fun Dash, Saturday, August 22, Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 Lindsey Ln. Join the Bolingbrook Park District by participating in Parkie’s Famous 5K/10k. Parkie’s has been running for 20 years and has grown to be one of the most popular events in the area.

Taste of Pakistan, Saturday, August 29, at the Town Center, is a festival that draws over 10,000 attendees to a day that celebrates Pakistani food, culture and music.

Joyfest, the Saturday after Labor Day, at the Performing Arts Center behind Town Center, is an afternoon-long celebration of Christian music.

Mostly Brew Crawl, Friday, September 11, at Ashbury’s at Boughton Ridge Golf Course is not your typical beer tasting. Presented by the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce is a pub crawl on the golf course that includes an Oktoberfest tent with food and live entertainment.

Pathways Parade & Minifest, Sunday, September 13 is the village’s longest-running annual event. It starts at Bolingbrook High School and ends at Town Center.

Fall Fest, Saturday, September 26, 3-8 p.m. at Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 Lindsey Ln. Join us for the third annual “Fall Fest - An Explosion of Color,” at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex (200 S. Lindsey Ln). There’s something for everyone. Live music, games, food, and fireworks!

Festival of Lights, the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of November, at The Promenade Bolingbrook is considered the official tree-lighting for the village, is an all-day event that include games and activities.

The Forest Preserve District of Will County is a Bolingbrook neighbor.

TRANSPORTATION Bolingbrook is served by 10 PACE bus routes that can bring commuters to Chicago’s East and West Loop, Lisle, Joliet, Downers Grove, Soldier Field and Guaranteed Rate Field. It is also home to two Park-n-Ride facilities at Old Chicago Drive and on Canterbury Lane.

Fountaindale Public Library YOUR GATEWAY TO EXPLORATION

F

ountaindale Public Library is gearing up to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2020! They have proudly served the Bolingbrook community for five decades and are offering an exciting lineup of celebratory special events and activities throughout the year for the community to enjoy, including the introduction of three new limitededition library cards designed by Bolingbrook residents.

Library cards are available free of charge to residents and business and property owners who live within the boundaries of the library district. Library cardholders can borrow from nearly 350,000 items, including books and eBooks, DVDs and Blu-rays, video games, magazines, electronic equipment and toys. Cardholders of all ages can also attend a variety of events and classes, enjoy a plethora of digital streaming services and eResources and can even reserve meeting and study rooms all at no cost.

The value of a Fountaindale Library card doesn’t stop there. Patrons can also use Studio 300—the library’s state-of-the-art digital media studio equipped with a Mac computer lab featuring the latest media creation software. The Studio also houses soundproof audio suites and professional video recording studios, and patrons can check out a diverse range of production tools such as cameras, microphones, lights and other gear to use while there or at home.

Studio 300 recently added a Maker Lab complete with embroidery; vinyl, fabric and paper cutting; 3D carving and 3D printing machines.

“Our top priority is to connect people to their passions, whether it be through books, programs, classes or other resources,” said Fountaindale Public Library Executive Director Paul Mill. “Our incredible staff is dedicated to serving our district residents from early childhood through adulthood.”

Fountaindale Library even serves the community outside their brick and mortar location with their Bookmobile and Library Express Van, which provide materials and programs at neighborhood parks, community centers, elementary and middle schools and businesses. The library’s Outreach Services staff also provides home delivery service to any cardholder who is unable to visit the library or Bookmobile.

THE PROMENADE

OFFERS MUCH MORE THAN SHOPPING

T

he intersection of Boughton Road and I355 is a hub of transportation; allowing travelers access to the northwest or southwest suburbs with a simple on-ramp.

However that intersection is one of Bolingbrook’s hubs of retail thanks largely to The Promenade. Built in 2007, The Promenade was part of a new generation of shopping centers called lifestyle centers; and is anchored by Macy’s and Bass Pro Shops. Combined with the drawing power of nearby IKEA/Costco/Bed, Bath& Beyond and the even closer Meijer store, the northeast corner of Bolingbrook gives the village its retail core.

Patrons can get all their shopping needs met in a less than one-mile radius.

Working toward the goal of being a destination site, The Promenade management worked diligently over the past few years to bring a variety of activities and marquee events to the shopping center. Summer is packed with weekly events and activities from the street market, to the outdoor concerts, to family game nights, to the annual Taste of Bolingbrook in August.

Activity-driven storefronts such as Escape Room, Prince Arcade and CG’s Comedy Club offer more than a retail zone; while IPIC offers a luxury movie experience like no other.

During the summer Bass Pro Shops offers several week-long camps for children.

The variety of restaurants at The Promenade and the immediate area round out the destination offerings.

With MOD Pizza, Longhorn Steakhouse, Islamorada Fish Company, Ted’s Montana Grill, bd’s Mongolian Grill, Bar Louie, Francesca’s, Beer Market, MORA Asian Kitchen and Mago Grill and Cantina there is something that will appeal to all taste buds.
