THE ST. CHARLES AREA CHAMBER’S 47TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING

G

et ready to dust off the clubs and gather your clients, friends, and business associates for a day of golfing and fun in the sun.

The St. Charles Area Chamber’s 47th Annual Golf Outing is set to take place “fore” golf, networking, and more on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Eagle Brook Country Club in Geneva.

Area businesses are encouraged to join the fun with a foursome and to chip-

in as a sponsor of the golf outing, too.

“Our popular golf outing is the perfect opportunity to bring your business to the ‘fore’ front,” said Janet Roman, chamber CEO. “Planning is underway right now to make sure it will be a success and an enjoyable day for everyone.”

Over 100 golfers have participated in past chamber golf outings. What could be better than taking part in a day of golf with games, food and refreshments?

MEET THE ST. CHARLES AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BENJAMIN VARGAS, Member Relations Manager Q: Name one thing the chamber needs to know about you.

A: I have an open-door policy not only to my Chamber commitment but also as a member of the community and my church Q: What are you looking to accomplish in the next 6 months?

A: I would like to bring the Community back into the Commerce end of the Chamber.

In the efforts any organizations make to become bigger, better, or just more efficient- sometimes

we lose sight of the community members and our impact on them. I hope to make positive strives to inform the community of their role in the Chamber family.

Q: Hobbies?

A: I spend most of my free time at home with my husband and two dogs. All three of them are fans of my cooking, playing frisbee in the yard or just singing made-up songs.

Q: What does a perfect day in St. Charles look like for you?

A: Taking the dogs for playdates at the James O Breen Dog Park and then getting sandwiches at Capriottis.

Q: Favorite TV show and why?

A: What History Forgot- hosted by a history buff/ high school teacher- it has a no – nonsense approach to pieces of forgotten history and it explores the smaller items that had impact on major events.

After more than a year of detailed planning, we celebrated the St. Charles Area Chamber of Commerce’s 100th anniversary on May 13 at the Q Center. In a nod to the 1920s, attendees wore Great Gatsby-themed attire and listened to a live swing band in between awards and the banquet dinner. Former St. Charles Mayor Ray Rogina won the prestigious Charlemagne Award, and attorney Linda Strohschein received the annual L.E.A.P. award. It was a classy night full of St. Charles pride!

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

T

here are times when a committee or group looks at itself from the inside/out and takes note that it’s time for a change to help it become more relevant.

That’s exactly what the leaders of the St. Charles Area Chamber’s Education Committee have done. They’ve transformed into the Learning and Development Committee, which works in close coordination and cooperation with all other St. Charles Area Chamber committees and local educational institutions.

“We found it important to find a way to bring our chamber members together, help them grow, and provide important networking and business resources,” said Bev DeJovine, committee co-chair.

St. Charles Area Chamber of Commerce  NEWSLETTER The group’s first program in the new format was held in March. The focus was “Make the Right Hire” addressing how businesses must adapt to the new hiring landscape and how it has changed.

The upcoming June 23 program, “Learn to Love Networking” will identify the dynamics that occur during networking.

“We hope those who attend will walk away embracing and understanding how critical networking is to success and appreciate the art of networking,” said DeJovine.

With the umbrella theme of “Nonprofit growth in time of change and opportunity”, the upcoming August 11 program will showcase perspectives from local nonprofit board chairs.

DeJovine notes that nonprofits have been uniquely challenged over the past few years and find themselves in a new environment with the pandemic halting in-person events, dampening fundraising,

impacting donors, and creating fragile volunteer engagement, to name just a few.

“Our purpose for this meeting is to give our nonprofit board members an opportunity to network, explore perspectives, lessons learned, and to gain fresh ideas,” said DeJovine.

The Learning and Development Committee has earmarked two other programs to round out the year. “Emotional Intelligence for the Small Business Owner” will be held on September 22, 2022 and “Leadership In Times of Change” will take place on December 15, 2022.

“Anyone who wants to sharpen their skills is welcome to attend,” notes DeJovine.

The meetings are open to everyonechamber members, non-chamber members, and other community members.

They are held on Thursday mornings from 8:30a.m. to 10:00a.m. at the Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St., St.

Charles. Attendance is free to St. Charles Area Chamber members; $20.00 to nonmembers. Light refreshments are served.

The L & D Committee is led by these team members: Tiza Pyle, chair, Pyle Consulting Group; Bev DeJovine, co-chair, Strategic Frameworks; Dee Johnson, board liaison, Supporting Strategies; Ilia Jakel, Gilvydis Vein Clinic. The committee recently welcomed Ashley Zeman to the team. She is a senior director of marketing strategy at Elgin Community College.
